A photo of the day thread

Let’s see the “before” photo! I remember all the protests - Monsignor Bruce Kent and a woman (whose name I have forgotten) who ran the Women’s Peace Camp but whenever she appeared on TV she didn’t look like she’d ever slept under canvas.
And, then there was the A34 Newbury Bypass protest which introduced us to New Age Travellers and Swampy.
Where are they now, I wonder?
I think I read that Swampy is a FLT full-timing in a Morelo Palace, but I could be mistaken.
I thought i had heard that Swampy had died, Heart Failure i believe,
He refused a by-pass on principles

Being as we are not out in the van as much we thought we would have a bit of outdoor living tonight.

According to my app it's a Grizzled Skipper
When I was a volunteer for green gym , we used to do special clearing in a forest , to protect this species, pleased to say they thrived
Green gym is a voluntary organisation using hand tools only , to keep fit and help protect the enviroment

Back at Greenham Common today.
I didn’t go just to take this mediocre picture 😳
But I noticed how much greenery there is in 2020 on the common compared to how it looked after the airbase had shut & also the highways agency requirements had taken hardcore to build the A34 bypass.
(All those words are to hide the fact that I have got a “before” photo 🤪)
edit: clarity/grammar
I have to admit that in the early 70s I used to love watching the muscle aircraft at the air shows at GC. But the current scene is healthier for all. No sign of any of those women with hairy chins and woolley jumpers I hope

Nope, all the peace woman are gone. Just an associated memorial by a gate.
In "the day" I would rather the area was left as an operational airbase but today we've a nice common area.
The worst things are just a fragrance from a nearby pickle factory & the council trying to keep some small areas free of dogs with just occasional red posts for marking these verboten areas
Both very minor as one is only an occasional nose sore and for the other, I'm not a ground nesting bird - I just re-checked that to confirm for this post.

Edit: a 3yo video but today is similar but with taller bushes  :

Edit2: blimey, the control tower has changed since then, It;s now a cafe & mini museum + viewing gallery in the old traffic control area.

I believe its a fiat. I could have well worked on this. Fitted the cab and any ancillary equipment. All fiat agi equipment used to come to the UK via Saxham near Bury St Edmunds. Fiat had a large warehouse/workshops at Bury and Saxham. it was one of my first jobs after leaving school in 1969.

Next time I’m up the farm I’ll take a closer look and let you know 🤓
