Hi anth,
That looks like hymalayan balsam , the pink on the island
Very invasive weed

japanese knot weed is the real baddun, we live a few miles from Poolsbrook, there is loads of it around here in most verges 😳 have a sprout or two in our garden watching and poisoning with equal hope and fear 🤔

Berfore moving to Cornwall I was a member of Green Gym ( an organisation doing voluntary work for parish councils /charities/ enviromental organisations.) one day a week . through most of the summer we picked / pulled H-Balsam , soul destroying really as the next year it would be back with a vengance.
We were never allowed to go near the dreaded jap Knot weed. or near badger sets etc and had to avoid birds nesting sites in the breeding season

Now at CL site, Overwater Marina near Audlum Cheshire with canal running past the site. Lovely site in a very peaceful setting. Walked along canal to Audlum where there are a series of locks, over 15 and plenty of barges, sorry should say narrow boats to be politically correct. Locks were fascinating watching boats move from one to other and how they work. Did wonder though as water is always moving down the locks, how canal is replenished at top, will Google it today.
When we walked into Audlum an old steam roller passed through. Really enjoyable afternoon out. Barging my way towards the dream.

A Tornado fighter jet pilot chased this Concorde as it left Britain on her way to New York, to snap a photograph.
He only just got it, as he had a few minutes worth of fuel left with which to head back to base.
It's a good job he did really, as it the only photograph of a Concorde doing Mach II. She's gliding along here at 1534 mph.
What a beautiful machine.
Copied from another forum , so not sure details are correct

Today, more Lock Down visited Grindley Brook just outside Whitchurch. It was busy narrow boaters travelling up a down these set of locks. Back home tomorrow, already thinking of our September trip. Smudger55

We went through the Audlem flight of locks during a thunderstorm as part of the four counties ring route. We should have left it for a dry day but we were on a time limit to get the boat back to the hirers.
Management wasn’t too impressed by waving a metal windlass about during a thunder storm. The rain kept up for the last six days out of ten days.

Management are very rarely impressed, mine however thinks we should give a trip down the locks a go...... I know what job I will be assigned to! Smudger55

When we lived on our narrowboat we frequently worked through those locks, stopping at The Shroppie Fly for a cool drink on a hot day.

That was the real beauty of cruising in France: all of them manned or automatic. On one central canal our young lady lock keeper with her moped stayed with us all day and worked every lock.
This is the Bollene lock on the Rhone. Nearly 30 metres deep!

This is the boat lift at Ronquieres, Belgium. Two big bathtubs cross each other on the incline!

Hi FIDGET

I’m no botanist or even a gardener, not by a long shot, but it could be as there is a whole lot of it all round the brook here.
Where is “here”, please?
You take lovely photos and I am always interested to know where these beautiful places are.

View from hospital window 3 floors up..... No wonder people can't wait to get home!

That chimney with the crane beside it looks like a rocket launch pad at Cape Canaveral.
