With the amount of straw being used by power stations the price must have gone up, which must increase costs for cattle farmers. I guess in turn higher food prices which we will pay.

If that’s the Tudor caravan park near Slimbridge, it’s a great site. Lovely walks along the canal, if you fancy a long walk then if you cross the bridge near the site and turn right, eventually you come to Frampton on Severn, a delightful villageView attachment 247962 Blagdon lake near Bristol. Tomorrow we are moving to Tudor caravan park.
Do these new huge balers still use nylon twine to hold the bales together?View attachment 248002
Round baler being delivered to us this morning, got it Pdi’d and was working with our customer by 4:30 this afternoon. Main reason for using a square baler is you can road transport a greater weight with square bales than round on a lorry. With more and more straw being used in power stations its all about transporting the maximum weight per journey.

This is how they ‘pitch’ bales these daysProper baler. Need a sodding big pitchfork, though

Have a great time!
Was not having a go at farmers just supply and demand usually affected the price.Great question. Yes and yes are the answers to the first part of your question.
Unfortunately farmers don’t set their prices for produce they sell (with the exception of farm shops, farmers markets and artisan products ) So it’s very difficult if almost impossible to pass on any increase of production costs to a processor let alone a supermarket as they will just import from another country to maintain their margin. Farmers in the main have to absorb any increase of inputs.

It's a walnut. They shouldn't be ripe yet but given the odd year they might be getting close. When ripe the green outer splits but you can help them along with a knife - but it will stain your fingers black! The fruit tree, is it medlar?
There was a talk on Radio 4 this morning about 6am regarding these barges and how they were used to prevent the river eroding the bank of the canal. Try reviewing on I player for the full tale.
