Hiya, it’s a CMC CL at Stonham Aspal just north of Ipswich, an old moated Hall and busy farm and the pitches are in the orchard, fairly basic but very large randomly spaced pitches hook up water waste, free wi fi and fishing.

Good afternoon

I. took a stroll down to the station this morning and took the train up to Montenvers for the Mer de Glace and the cable car ride down to as I understand it 500 steps down and 500 back up to visit the grotto carved in the ice. I must confess I did pause a couple of times on the way back up and to my surprise passed people on the way up that I had seen on the way up when I was on my way down. Annoyingly got the low battery warning on the camera while back at the top and it ran out completely while filming the train going back up. I must make a point of charging everything overnight every night.

Walking down beside the stream.

A picture of the leading carriage at the mountain terminus. This was the actual power car.

A view down the valley before boarding the cable car.

A view from the cable car paused half way while cars loaded/unloaded at each end.

Next a view up along the glacier, I was fooled but finally cottoned on to the fact that there is a lot of loose rock on the surface but beneath it is solid ice.

A view out of the window on the way bay down.

Next the train I had returned on about to leave for the top.

I thoroughly enjoyed this visit and happily recommend it. I am going to take a lazy afternoon reading and doing nothing as it is too hot to go out now. I may go for the cable car ride up the other side in the morning.

Thank for looking.:france::france::france:Clive:france::france::france:

Preferred st pierre as very quaint and less touristy but generous beaches both sides but the easterly side is clearer because no seaweed but no breeze either. Well worthy of a visitView attachment 246790 View attachment 246793
If you are still in Brittany around 12th August look out for the hordes going out at low tide in the morning. It is a Spring tide then and the locals will go out and forage for anything edible. They often make a bit of a party about it, gathering together afterwards and opening the odd bottle of wine.

This is at the Plage de Saint Jaques which is on the opposite side of Quiberon Bay from Quiberon.

The annoying thing about the lighthouse at St Anthony's Head is you walk all the way down the path to the bottom - then you see the sign saying it is private and you can't visit! They need to put the sign at the top of the path. :)

It s a good circular walk from Portscatho to the headland and then back again by the coastal path.

we used to be able to visit and we had tours around the lighthouse. We have not been for a while so i'm not sure when they stopped allowing visitors

We stayed in Trewince camping a couple of weeks ago.. Yes, great walks around Froe creek, past Place manor along the Percuil river.

Our pitch for last night (and tonight) is at the Drum Estate THS, Edinburgh. Inside the A720 ring road, a haven of tranquility with pheasants feeding in the barley field behind us.
£8.50 per night with basic services. There is a Co-op across the road and a bus stop directly outside the gates to take you into the City 4 times an hour, £1.70 single.

Off to enjoy the street theatre today at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

I have moved 13 kilometres up the road to Argentière. A huge car park by the ski lift (courtesy of Park4Night).

The view is taken standing in Fanny's doorway. Fabulous view of the glacier.

I plan to say here two nights then move into Switzerland for the trains and paddle steamers.

More pictures on Fannying about in France down in the Continental touring, France section.

Cheers Clive

Having a lazy day today with a cooling breeze passing through Fanny. A small suspension bridge connects the car park with the village (there is a very regular bus service as well). First a view taken from it.
image.jpeg

That is looking upstream towards Martigny.
Now a view of Fanny looking in the other direction towards Chamonix.

Because I planned to use the generator I parked right away from everyone else yesterday. For inexplicable reasons I am now centre in a line of five and another three on the side where I am taking the picture from. I think I am lucky they are not forming a circle like those old wagon train events in the Wild West.

More pics in Fannying about in France.

Cheers Clive

Night market at Hua Hin, some of the best street food we have had. The lady selling the Satay was the same when we came here 5 years ago, and the extortionate the prices, the current exchange rate is 43 to the pound.(y)

The lobster and 'small' prawns are charged by weight.

You can't take it with you - just do it!!

Started hang gliding in 1979 & paragliding in 1991 - it's the closest you will come to flying like a bird

I imagine it is.

The problem is more to do with affording the time rather than financial cost.

I know I'd get addicted and my cycling and photography already take me away from my Wife enough I think. (I already quit Shooting and Archery, and sold my motorbike). So much to see and do...so little time.

I'd need to move house to Puy de Dome as well... the local Paragliding spot, at Combe Gibbet, Berkshire, now seems rather insignificant since I saw the paragliders at PdD.
