A photo of the day thread

Morning walk Box Hill and Frensham Great Pond.
Dont go swimming in the Great Pond at the moment because of the algae. My mate owns the only house on the little pond and reckons there is no algae in that one. Only live about 3 mile away from there (or 4 pubs which ever way you look at it)

Hope I'm not the only plonker After the game

Some images taken at the Ile de Ré, over the bridge from La Rochelle. We stayed at Camping des Baleines, right next to the Phare (lighthouse) and as west as you can get.

Salt and tourism seem to be the 2 main industries here. "Fleur du sel" is the local speciality salt, the early harvest so to speak.

Thought i recognised that bit of road. Any problems with wilding on that tremendously long layby ? We decided against it last year and dropped down to pay at the aire at La Palmyre and use the motorbike to go to beach. FYI water is outside the aire there so can be gained

Hi @suavecarve

Sorry about the delay responding. There are no problems wilding here, tonight will be my third night but will probably move on tomorrow. You were wise to decide against it. I could sleep through the Russian invasion if it happened but the road noise here is constant and the local yoblets in the hours of darkness like to run through with their horns blaring. As I indicated not a problem for me but for many I fear it would be a sleepless night.

This morning while lying in my pit wondering whether to get up or not (it was 8 o'clock) I heard a vehicle draw up behind me. Plenty of noise and no consideration for neighbours at all. I poked my head out of the window to see a male carrying a thetford cassette into the adjacent woods. That made my mind up that this would be my last visit here, the noise is one thing but I have no wish to be associated with that behaviour . I don't imagine he was the first nor will be the last.

The plus point is it is handy for the beach. I don't have satelite and the location stopped me receiving terrestrial so I have missed the first days of the Tour de France. Tomorrow I move towards La Réole for some of my own cycling along the Garonne. That will be after getting a few rays in the morning. The beach below.

I don't believe it. As I loaded the picture they have just pulled away. So they came, dumped their cassette, stayed until now 1730 local and have cleared off.

Happy days, Clive

Bloody ignorant FLTs. I wouldnt have minded the noise, but i couldnt have stood missing le tour, but to be fair you havent missed a lot that you cant get in the highlights. That beach is definitely a corker. Enjoy

When we visited Toledo in April I took a series of 4 shots of the city with the intention of creating a panoramic view from them. Now we are back I've just let Adobe Lightroom have its head and create the panorama automatically, which it has just done. It isn't perfect as it would have been better with more foreground but not a complete waste of film either. :) I did other panoramas including a 360 degree one on our trip which I will upload to Google maps once Ive worked out how to create the 360 - I think I may need to use Photoshop but will try with Lightroom first. But I've got about 2000 images to sort through so it may take a while before I get to them.

And I'm claiming this is a photo of the day because although the originals were taken in April the panorama was created just now. :)

@Anthea M We usually go to the restaurant LaKaLaKiK opposite thr car park on the estuary for moules and frites. Well Merilyn has the moules, I stick to the frites. If you are tempted to take a swim off the headland be aware that the currents are treacherous.

Nice.
I've spent lot of time in Lightroom creating panoramas over the years. It's now got to the point though where my phone's camera/software does the job so well, and so effortlessly, I stopped using my camera to do them.

Google Photos also does them too I discovered recently. If you take say three photos each overlapping by a third and upload them to Google Photos there is a good chance it will stitch them together automatically into a Panorama. Sadly, you can't force it to do this so there is a degree of luck involved. It doesn't always play but I took a few like this using my phone while we were away.

And by an amazing coincidence Google Photos has just put together a panorama. I've transferred about 2000 images in the last day or so from my camera to my PC and these have been uploaded to Google Photos which is now discovering them.

A bit of the Sierra de Grazalema.

It also produces animations from suitable sets of photos. This was a mulberry tree with lots of fruit. I took several photos which Google has joined together. Seriously wierd. :)

Staying with my sister in Fay Sur Lignon, France. She’s recently moved here from Antibes so first visit for us. Definitely a sleepy French township, population about 350.

Very pretty place. Has no aire but does have MH grey disposal point, fresh water, both free.

PM if you want more info re the MH facilities!

Good afternoon

Moved on yesterday and set up camp near La Réole to get some cycling in along the canal next to the Garonne. Had planned to be on the road by 0800 to get a couple of hours in and beat the heat. That became about 0900 as I fell back to sleep. The riding on the tow path here is superb. The metalled surface is in first class condition and this morning I was pleased to enjoy much of the ride in shade.

No sooner I started than I stopped to take pictures of and at the Écluse 48 Auriole.

There was a more conventional water pump here which refuses to upload but a little further along at another écluse there was a more modern version of the one I saw up near Saint Palais sur Mer the other day.

Last picture from the Hammer house of Horrors is a selfie taken on the way back on one of the standard concrete bow bridges with the pretty village of Hure and its église behind me.

I think it is time I treated myself to a new hat, at least the strap is holding the chins up!

As I said the cycling is superb and looking forward to more tomorrow and I will try to be up early. It is cooler today than yesterday, only 30.3°C in the shade.

We have a huge buddlia next to the house. It has been collecting bees, there were dozens on it today, we could hear the buzzing from inside the house. This afternoon we spotted a couple of Swallowtail butterflies on it and about 6 or 7 Hummingbird moths. The moths are very fast, but I managed to get a relatively good photo of one.

And one of the Swallowtails before I frightened it away

A simple view taken at Meilhan sur Garonne taken on my way back on what is just still today for you but already tomorrow for me.
Great cycling along the Garonne Canal Lateral.

From some time next week I will be putting my pictures up in the Continetal travelling French section. I have received a number of requests so will probably be under Fannying about in France - because of Fanny the Fiat of course.
I saw an English narrow boat on the canal today! That surprised me.

Nice calm morning, photo from the Aire at Pont Réan, should have been €6 but no body to collected, so we did it French style and left.
