A photo of the day thread

Well done . Since you've just posted the photos , what time did you start the Bealach?
Quite a drive even with no other traffic.

Left Applecross at 9am took a nice easy drive up to the summit then descended so probably about 45 mins in total

Extremely jealous. Going away on my own next week for a couple of nights. Good lady working unfortunately.
Will be taking my 12 year old collie , so "big" hills not advised as she's got a bit of arthritis , that's my excuse anyway:D.
Need to lose approx same weight as you have , was it just careful eating , or a diet plan? Breathless climbing up hills so need to do something about it.
Speak soon.

A mix of both really, I had a really bad car accident when I was 18 and broke both my ankles so I can't run any distance so I did very fast walking on treadmill etc and a mix of weights to tone the loose areas, cut out all the chocolate crisps takeaways etc for the first few months, changed my eating habits so I now eat smaller portions, I now very rarely eat milk chocolate mostly dark, I cook a lot more, limit treats and I do a lot more exercise, walking cycling climbing etc
Its more a lifestyle change than a diet etc but willpower plays a big part and the first few months of cold turkey etc are the hardest but once the weight starts to go and you feel better that motivates you.
I used to be out of breath climbing the stairs which at my age was shocking.... Now I run up them :)

Obviously got parked ok . Came off skye at end of August as it was chock a block with motorhomes , mostly hired .
Couldn't even park in Portree.
Need to watch how you phrase things " I'm up the old man of stoerr " could be misunderstood here in Glasgow:D:D.
Good pictures , another visit before harsh winter .

I'm now heading to Altnaharra for a change of scenery and a wee dander up Ben hope

Just as a matter of interest, I noticed all three MH are parked facing away from the sea view. I think If I was parked up there I would be facing the sea. I assume it was due to the wind coming off the sea perhaps that the MH were facing the other way. But if the vents are closed would that stop the cold air coming in. I'm just trying to see if I'm missing something here.

Puncture just North of Rouen this morning, nice piece of steel in the tyre, new replacement fitted and 4 hrs later we were on our way.
The tyre pal alarm was excellent allowed me to pull over slowly before it was completely flat and started to shred.

Just up the road! You here overnight/ tomorrow?
Couldn't even park in Portree.
Unless you're very lucky (or "park smart"), you can NEVER park in Portree!!!

Yes here till Monday morning although raining today and it's a bit dull and depressing

Caught a lovely sunrise this morning too I thought it was going to be nice day

At least you're on the sheltered side of the island!
I drove up to Dunvegan this morning but it was teaming down couldn't see much so I returned to Portree as I'm needing fuel, rains gone off now so might have a walk round the town for a bit

I'm just south of Dunvegan and I think the wind & rain are set in for the day. I can usually see one of the main headlands just out the front window, but right now it's just a cloud sitting on the loch.
Cheapest fuel is the co-op in Broadford if you can wait that long.

I had planned to travel down that side after Dunvegan but as I couldn't see much for the rain and mist I thought I'd just head back here. Think I'm. About quarter tank so could probably hold off till Broadford haven't decided where I'm parking up tonight yet, handy public toilet at Dunvegan though with a tap so manages to replenish the tanks at least :)

Last time we were in Lochcarron we had a great haggis, neaps & tatties meal at a little restaurant alongside the shore.(y)
You've put me right in the mood for haggis n tatties now I think I'll make that tonight
Ye can keep the neeps though blueeech

Sorry, lost internet and power for a while there...
Yes Dunvegan car park's really handy.
And a good general shop (Fasgadh Stores), greengrocery (The Fruit and Nut Place) and bakery (The Old Bakery). Jan's Cakes is supposed to be a very good cafe but I've never been there - but of course all closed on Sundays!
How was Portree? Have you moved on, or staying there overnight?

Probably the worst day weather wise to drive down the bealach na ba but doing it early enough meant no other traffic and could stop and take a few pics, managed it no probs in an 8.4 metre tag never grounded it once and took the bends with no issues, but still a white knuckle ride lol and don't think I'd take it up the way View attachment 189290 View attachment 189291 View attachment 189292 View attachment 189293 View attachment 189294 View attachment 189295 View attachment 189296

Been up it once in a hired motorhome, next time I went the long way;)

That must be the photographed bridge in Scotland:D I've seen it twice, once the river was a raging flood the next time was a trickle(y)
