Last night Malcolm Bolt / Cherrypirate and us decided to hit the night life, we wondered into town where we ordered a string of the fluffinest tasty doughnuts ever which we were allowed to take to the cafe opposite order coffee and watch the world Morocan style go by.
First a snack of hand-made ring doughnuts - the guy over the road forms them by hand and drops them into the hot oil, turns them and hooks them out with a stick, drops them in sugar and ties them onto a palm string. We then took them back to the cafe to eat them with our coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Rather than the British response of 'you can only eat what you buy here' we were given plates by the waiter to put our doughnuts on.
Following the doughnuts we were presented with complimentary tasters of kefta. YUMMY
Colin had spotted what appeared to be burgers in spit flatbreads and we asked for a couple for him and me. The others declined. We were duly presented with a small plate of kefta which were very tasty but not what we had asked for. This small dish was eaten quickly, even quicker than I had wished as some of those who had previously said they did not want any joined in. (Like when we fellas order starters or puds and our partners decline - then scoff ours.)
A second request with our best endeavors to mime our desire and Cathryn's best french to people who did not speak it resulted in another but this time much larger dish of the same kefta. Sensing defeat I asked for bread thinking we could make our own burgers. The chef duly obliged and presented us with bread cut up to match the size of the keftas. Result - mini burgers. This was followed by a plate of spicy turkey.
Carol had obviously been recognised by the chef as a culinary expert and was recruited to the hot plate to prepare a dish that was subsequently served to the couple at the next table. Looks good doesn't it.
If I ever get this bit loaded you should see pics of
1 & 2 us all out in Tafrout.
3 our DIY burgers
4 waiter and chef
5 a meal for other guests prepared by Carol on behalf of the chef.
