If you fancy a little bit of luxury in Erg Chebbi, then Kasbah Hotel Tombouctou had motorhome parking behind the hotel, backing directly on the the dunes, with electric points on palm trees!

There is a fully licensed bar, hamam and camels etc but no more expensive then a regular Moroccan campsite. HIGHLY recommended! Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/T5lPQ
Website: http://www.xaluca.com/

We stayed here, which was great - but was right next to the Mosque!

Wish we were there

A long time since I was at the hotel. I used to park up there and use the restaurant, which used to be very good indeed. One of the best places in the world to chill. The photo below was taken in the restaurant. A much slimmer me .

Almond Festival Tafraoute

Latest plan is to stay at this wild camp for a couple of days then Agadir for some gas then if the plan works out we will be in Tafraoute by 10/11 Feb for the Almond festival.
Hopefully there will be a few Funsters still there to share the love!

Sorry to disappoint you guys but saw a large banner in Tafraoute today announcing that the Almond Festival ,contrary to the custom of holding it 2nd week Feb is this year not until Feb28th - March 2nd
However the almond blossom is beautiful, the scenery stunning as you may know & lots to do. We're planning to have a few more days here on the extensive ' au savage' Guardian camping area; be good to meet up.

Curtsey of Carol

She is over the moon with the facilities of the campsite we found just 6km south of Tiznit. It has only just opened and has quality showers etc. and all for 75dh a night.

Meeting Friends in Morocco

Morning All

Well we finally left Tagazhoute on Monday and enjoyed a fabulous 3 day journey with Ray V8 to Tata via Paradise Valley, Taroudant and the staggeringly scenic road from Igherm via Annamer. Unfortunately when we got to Tata the campsite was full.........

.......but then the Funsters appeared! With a bit of negotiating with management, a lot of noise and laughter, and not a little suspicion by resident French motorhomes, a few funster motorhomes were shuffled and Ray and I drove in.

Ray slipped into the space made by Peter and Bob and yours truly pulled down to the end of the parking area guided by Suggy...........

Now unbeknownst to Ray and I it seems that earlier in the day some sort of internecine French claim jumping had occurred, only resolved after much robust Gallic discussion, arm waving and the running over of the wife of one chauffeur de camping car..... .:Eek!::Eek!::Eek!:

As Suggy watched me forward a French lady yelled "Non, non, non" (obviously still remembering Agincourt), whilst Suggy cried "Qui qui qui"...... "Non, non, non"........"Qui, qui, qui,.......". Eventually I stopped and reversed to achieve a 3 point turn and park across the front of the Suggy and Canopus motorhomes (and Entente Cordial was finally restored despite Suggy's best efforts). :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

So thanks to Peter & Elaine, Graham & Rosey, Bob & Ellie, and Ken & Linda for making room for weary travellers and thanks for the hearty campsite singsong last night. It was obviously widely appreciated - This morning, strangely, there are spaces to park properly........ :thumb:

Have Fun:Smile:

Dinner last night Chez Brahim started when Brahim, in full dress and headgear, explaining in mime then performing a hand washing ritual with ornate kettle and bowl. Starter of dates and soup closely followed by a bed of cous cous with veg chick peas and sweet chutney topping and two large portions of crisp roast chicken. A mountain of food. Then another pan of "jus for cous cous" also filled with veg. During the main we were treated to incense burning on a large gas light to more cries of "traditionelle".
Finishing with orange caramel and a huge fruit platter we were stuffed to bursting.
Lynne was ushered out at this point by an old woman while I was dressed in two hooded garments a skull cap and dagger from the wall. She returned in four layers of finery and jewellry to be introduced to each other as Fatima and Mohammed.
Several photos later we had tea (natural not mint but still sweet) and gateaux(sweet biscuits). Brahim treated us to a display of pouring from height without looking.
After settling the bill of less than a tenner a head-worth it for the caberet alone he insisted on a motorbike escort back to our door 15 min cycle ride back.

maintenance

Having an easy day today.
In the last couple of days I have sorted an ongoing boiler leak after 6 weeks of damp carpets. Also tweaked (tried to undo, snapped, replaced, realigned) waste outlet and release lever. Now turning on/off with no creaking or squeaking and all running smoothly. So after a couple of hours scrabbling about I shouted Lynne to see it in action. Not the slightest response. Must just be a man thing then.
Today topped washer bottle and oil up.
Now just boring people on t'interweb.

Just back from a walk in the sand dunes..
Had a day sitting about, tried sand surfing but not more luck...
Now having English tea plus cabury choccie biscuits with Ali and Omar...

This is a nice place but fancy a move to Tombuctoo hotel for a couple of days and bit of being spoilt....

Marrakech

:Smile:Just had brilliant day in Marrakech with Jan souks ,palaces of which there are a few !! nice lunch followed by relaxed tour around city in horse and cart for an hour £6 bargain !! coffee and yummy cakes :thumb: walk in cyber park !! then taxi back to site beer sat outside motor home end to lovely day  we are liking morocco

It was a bit misty this morning and then a sea fret set in making it cool and overcast. I suggested to Kiwi Colin that we set off early for Agadir as it wasn't too nice sitting around in the sea fret so 30 mins later we were on the road.
It was an easy drive up to Agadir from Mirleft and we got to Mustafa at about 4:00. Except he wasn't there. We waited until 5:30 and retired to the Guardien parking behind the school.
At 6:00 Mustafa rang to say he was back and he came round to collect my gas bottle for refill. Colin wants some slats replacing on his bed so Mustafa will look at that in the morning. Only two solutions Colin- new slats or go on a diet mate!
We then wandered around the district and eventually found a little restaurant with chickens roasting - that'll do we thought!
They brought a fab Moroccan salad including beetroot, sauces, the best bread I've ever tasted and the roast chicken was absolutely gorgeous, fries were excellent too. The bill? 100dirham for 4 people - that's the equivalent of about £2 a head!
We took our own wine so a good night was had by all.

We have had a great few days here in Tata , The town is really good , clean , friendly locals and good prices at the meat n veg shops , it is a change to get charged local prices,
With plenty of cafes , and shops , 2 fuel stations at the west end of the town .

Yesteday we saw 52* on the street temperature sign !

i would say it is probably one of the best towns we have visited in morocco

We are parked at the campsite ,Overspill parking at the municipal pool and it is clean block paved hard standing , far better than the battery chicken campsite full mainly of french on gravel ,

The parking is 50mt up from the campsite ,

The roads coming in from the west and north are good , though sometines you may have to pull over where they are a bit narrower ,

Today we are heading East to Foum Zguid ,

Safe trip, Foum Zquid is a very friendly place, bit dusty as they are in the middle of doing all the roads and paths etc....

Ho hum. Decoking the fridge again today.
Been running on gaslow during daytime and overnight, only using moroccan gas for cooking and its still sooted up and defrosting freezer.
Gaslow nearly empty now so gonna have to get lucky with local gas or sweep the chimney every other day!

On another note, we now have 14 vans of uk occupants scattered round the parking here in Tafraout, not all funsters and a couple with french reg vans.

Not taking over yet but at least holding our own.

Ok , we are at camping Khaima Park , in Foum Zguid, N30*04,792 W06*52,232

Roads from Tata really good , except for idiot frech in rapidos with a trailer driving to fast and snaking all over the road and desperate to pass us all :Eeek:

Fuel .. no stations after Tata but 1 here about 1.4km up the road from the campsite ,

Campsite , good welcome , gardian speaks good english , berber tent resteraunt and wifi ,

Pitches .... tucked into the palms, quite good for shade , nice n peacefull , facilities a bit rustic :Rofl1::Rofl1:

fees .... 50d or 70 inc leccy

We stopped just before Tissint for photos there is a village on your left just after the sand moonscape with a palmerie and a river just below in a gorge , worth stopping then about 2 miles further a sign on your leftr to some small cascades , worth a look .

keep a look out for Tonkas camel with the baby ..... i think they are tied to the trees like the goats :Rofl1: i bet if you stop a berber runs up for 20 d :Eeek:

Total travel time from Tata 3hours , 85miles

Relocated at erg Chebbie...

We went in search of the luxury of hotel tombuctoo, finally found it and instantly did not like it after our stay at Sable rose... Moved further up the road and after passing many campsites, some to expensive, some not very nice.. We have stopped at a small Auberge and now 3 vans parked in their small courtyard. Electric from the hotel rooms and indoor toilet facilities... Very nice and negotiated 40dh a night.. :thumb:

Pics etc to follow as just off to local village.....

As already stated, Suggies Squad are now encamped at Camping Kayma Park at Foum Zguid.
Quaint little site with lekky if required. Its very hot at the moment with virtually no breeze at all.

En route we stopped at Tissint and took a 500mt detour left where the road turns to the right. Behind a small house was a car park where we all stopped. In front of us were the Cascades du Attiq with water flowing over falls and into large pools. Quite a spectacular :Eeek: sight in this dry and arid country, but alas, not very well signed . The viewing terrace is literally only a few metres left off the main road, and I dare say it may be possible to wild there overnight.

Well its very quiet at the moment since its the muslim holy day today. Will venture into the village when it cools down a little.

Hi - have been reading this topic with interest. We ventured into Morocco on the 20th November and returned to Spain 2 days ago.

We had a brilliant adventure with 5 other m/homers but in case anyone has any worries regarding taking their dog(s) I wouldn't worry.

I have a border terrier and was a but concerned about getting back to Spain but the authorities didn't even bother to ask for his passport and showed no interest in him at all. Neither did the Spanish customs who saw him in the van at Algeciras.

You all seem to be having a wonderful adventure as we did.

Cheers for that snippet Chris we have our effing terrier Jess with us and we were wondering what the re-entry into Spain might be like. Thats allayed our fears. Thanks.

Been into the Tourist Information Office in Foum Zguid, the first we have seen especially in such a small outback town. Had a conversation with a young lady in my pigeon French and her pigeon English and the conclusion was the N12 is 'non impassible avec le Camping Car'.

Someone spoke to Suggy I believe, and said it wass hard enough in a 4x4 desert truck. So guess we will be going to Zagora the longer way via the R111 and R108 inshallah :thumb:

We are First timers in Morocco so you may know this but having failed to get into Camping International at Agadir - there is guardian parking at the car park opposite the Agadir Beach Club Hotel - nice location nr the beach - room for about 10 vans and 40dh a night - no facilities.

Getting back into Spain is the very least of your worries. Getting back into the UK is where the problems start if the paperwork is not correct. Morocco is not in Europe.

Yes I know Morocco is not in the EU!! so I will report any problems after 20th Feb which is our due date to arrive in the uK.

Update

Having enjoyed the pleasures of Taghazoute Beach for a while we - that's us and Derek & June (Portland) - decided to try Paradise Valley on our way back north. Well actually it's directly east but it's a long scenic route through the mountains. From Banana Village take the road to Imouzzer and just keep following the signs, although there is only one road. Once clear of B/V surface is mostly fine although in places it has been washed/swept away and badly repaired so occasionally slow going. It ain't for the faint-hearted and larger vans might struggle a bit in a couple of places. Scenery however was stupendous through and over the mountains and Paradise Valley itself was beautiful. Well worth the effort.

However DO NOT go to the Cascades - it's the first time we've been well and truly ripped off in Morocco. If there's been no rain there's nothing to see and they'll try to charge you a fortune for a "guide". Ours actually had a scrap with another one! If you get as far as the parking, don't go in, just go past turn round and back to the road junction about 500m then continue to Tamri.

Be warned that it took us most of the day and it was getting dark when we reached Tamri so we abandoned our plans and returned to Taghazoute Beach.

But if you have the time it really is a worthwhile trip; it'll be a long time before we forget it.

Terry
