so far visited, Martil, Chefchaouen, Volubis, Meknes, Azrou, Midelt, Merzouga (Erg Chebbi), Todra Gorge, Dades Gorge, Atlas Film Studio at Ouarzazate, Tizi-n-Ticha Pass, and now Marrakech.Jan

That's most of the Desert Detours route. Just need the lovely Essaouira now.

Pinkie.. safe travels..see you in morocco no doubt.

Mickyp. Great to hear your enjoying it. Pity about the parking cost in Marrakech,, think we only paid 60dh earlier this year.. However we really enjoyed being there and walk over to the square just as it's going dusk. See all the resturants setting up and then get a cheap meal and listen to all the patter off the stall holders..

Morocco 2014

We now have email confirmation of the group Ferry costs. They will be 180€ per motor home, open return, two people.

If you have decided to make the ferry crossing to Morocco on the morning of 15th Jan 2014 with the 'group' and have not already done so can you please PM Tonka or myself with your full names of who are travelling, van Reg and VIN No. so we can forward these to our contact. You will still need all your documentation, passport etc to confirm your details on the day.

At Bella Vista / Algericas we will supply you all with a list of names and emergency telephone numbers of who will be in Morocco. It will include a few GPS co-ordinates to get everyone started.

Not long to go now.....HAPPY NEW YEAR!

You'd soon spend the €20 you would save on the discounted crossing if you hung on another six days till the 15th :Rofl1::Rofl1:

Breakdown!

Well this is a good start! Currently wildcamping in a secure garage compound!

Hour and half into the journey, took a loo stop at Wetherby and the alternator packed up. This is when you find out if your breakdown cover is any good - and Comfort came up trumps! Nice RAC man with us in half an hour, confirmed the problem and organised a repair. Escorted us to Morley where garage got straight onto it - but not unexpectedly have had to order a new unit, which will be here 8.00am and they will give us priority.
Meanwhile RAC man checked our accommodation needs and arranged for us to stay here overnight - he would have been happy to find us a hotel but obviously we don't need it. He did recommend a local fish restaurant and pointed out Asda, across the road.
All dealt with quickly, efficiently and very friendly, making sure we were OK. Just hope the part turns up!

If there's any good to be had, at least it happened in the UK, and when we are not in a rush. Would have been a different story in Marrakesh!

Sue's Chrissy Prezzy.......

Greetings and a premature Happy New Year to you all from Tan-Tan Plage. Thought I'd send it now before the ether log-jams tonight!

A couple of points some of you may find helpful.

Marjane bargain of the moment, a single tub 2.5 kilo load, 170 watt washing machine for 299Dh- £24ish. Was very dubious but it works absolutely fine, runs superbly off our 300 watt inverter whilst our 100 watt solar panel keeps the batteries charged so don't even need hookup. (Washing at campsites seems to cost around 50Dh for a 5kg load ). Absolute result as I really didn't know what to get Sue for Christmas........:thumb:

Gas compatibility. We have a Truma bulkhead regulator with high pressure hose fittings for both Calor LPG and Calor butane bottles. The butane bottle connector has a threaded connection to the hose which is a left hand coarse (presumably metric) thread. It is the same as the thread on a Maroc blue bottle. Bought a full bottle of gas a Tagazhoute for 140Dh and fitted straight on. Refills are apparently between 40Dh and 45 Dh (<£2)

Major benefit is that gas pressure is what it should be, Maroc regulators it seems are set much higher than is required for EU campers (and need adjusting right down!:Eek!:) but there is of course a financial saving in not having to buy one.

Have fun all:Smile:

Sunny and warm but very windy, the cunning plan with the washing unravelled as we tried to dry it andwatched it try and emulate a kite surfer over the site......

Hi Graham et al

Hope to catch you somewhere!

Coordinates for Camping Atlantique, Tan Tan plage are N28 deg 29.671' W011deg20.193'. Site pretty well as described in Vicarious book, washroom facilities at top end of Moroccan scale for cleanliness etc, still building going on at one end of the site but not obtrusive (building work, as opposed to finishing anything, is obviously the major hobby aside from football in Morocco)

The road from Guelmim to Tan-Tan is about 125 kilometres of hammada, scrubland with not much on it except one roadside 'service area' about halfway, we were quite comforted that we had filled up with everything before we left Guelmim. The road is very straight and sometimes quite tight, we stayed behind a bus the whole journey and found that very good for deflecting the oncoming traffic.... ( but we did have to keep up a steady 85 km/ hr!!!):Eek!:

Stayed at Camping El Barco, Sidi Ifni before this one. Site ok but there are 3 others in town very close to beach all appear to be similar. El Barco appears to be best because of location but actually doesn't get the morning sun this time of year like the others.

Tried to get fort Bou Jerif (from both directions) but the piste was too much for our 5 tonne 8.2 metre Burstner. Being a fwd Ducato the front tyres took a hammering when we got stopped at a river and had to make complex about face and one is now looking decidedly secondhand. There may be other ways in but unless you know it, or have something cross country capable, would suggest giving it a miss.:Eeek::Eeek::Eeek:

We plan to see in the New Year here and head on down to the site at Akhfennir, recommended by Ray and Joan, RayV8, - Tarfaya - Laayoune and heading back to Tagazhoute for the end if January.

Regards all

Barry and Sue

Breakdown

Hi all, and especially PeterandElaine - we're all sorted out now thanks. In fairness the garage, Northcliffe Motor Services at Morley, were great, looking after us and getting the job done as soon as possible. Recommend them anytime.

But breakfast at Asda was, well, a little "disappointing"...........

Sorry for delay in responding - had to wait to get to mum's to get a connection.

Look for the Lidl next to McDonalds, Leroy Merlin..
Either the office attached to the Lidl will be open, if not there will be directions to the old office which is not far away...
Not sure where the supersol is ???? You need jn 112 on the A7...

I wanted to ask anyone who has crossed via Tangier Med before where the nearest cash machine / ATM is? Am I right in saying there is an ATM in the terminal building or is there one elsewhere in the port or other money changing facilities?

When we went in 2012 we sailed into Ceuta and found a cash machine in Fnideq to withdraw our dirhams using our Halifax Clairty card.

Got a letter in the post on New Years eve from Carlos wishing my happy new year - nice touch!
