Thanks Steve. Will update around Tuesday Wednesday next week.

Bizarre isn't it, we've been away since 8th October and had a brilliant time travelling down and even better down here on the Algarve on Chickenrun but now, all of a sudden, I'm getting really excited!

Almost can't wait..........

Barry and Sue

MHF LRPG.

Thanks Steve. Will update around Tuesday Wednesday next week.

Evening all Moroccan motorhomers

As promised an update

At Algeciras this evening having booked on the 10o'clock ferry to tangiermed courtesy of Viajes Normandie this afternoon. Cost is 200 Euro for an open return to either Ceuta or Tangiers. Seems the Ceuta crossing is shorter and more punctual (not sure whether that means on time or less late) but there is the additional issue of the border between Ceuta and Maroc proper to think about. We elected for Tangier........
I asked about discount for a block booking of a dozen or so and Carlos' daughter told me it was outside her remit but if someone (think that might be you Steve or Andrew.....)were to email her father he would be happy to discuss - address is ticket.gutierrez@telefonica.net
Seems though that the rate Snowbird secured is a good one (we couldn't get it!!!) but worth a try for the January invasion I would have thought.
Parking adjacent to the Mercadona is fine albeit there are a few here tonight. Those of you who haven't come before do remember it is exit 12 of the N304, I didn't write it down and our Garmin (bless it) found two alternative Lidls in Algerciras before the third and ccorrect one!
Struggling to send this on my phone but think that's all that's important. Will post anything else that seems interesting when, hopefully, we have our Maroc sim.......

Regards

B&S

Thanks on the update.. :thumb:
We will chase the discount a bit nearer the time...
Tangier med is a nice almost new port, so if you haven't done it before I think you will like it..

Have a good crossing and look forward to your updates from AFRICA

Dog information re borders

I have not read all of the pages re dogs but I received a reply this morning from a vet in Barcelona.
Hi Russell, I´ve just spoken to the vet here in Barcelona. Bilbo needs a blood test that shows that he has rabies antibodies. That blood sample is sent to a specialized lab and the certificate is issued and stamped by an official place, your vet in Jersey should be able to do so for you. In Spain this tests take over 10 days., so you had better have it done and sorted before you leave Jersey. This kind of certificate will be requested to you on your return from Morocco. He has told me that you must make sure that you need the certificate stamped
Last year there was a case of a dog brought back from Morocco with rabies and now they have clamped down on it and the control is very strict with animal coming back from there. Spanish people don´t risk taking them there if it´s only for a few days, but if the papers are in order and everything is correct you should´t have any problems.

Hope this helps
I shall wait the time in Spain to get this certificate as I will be setting off on the 15 and too late to do it in Jersey.

Departure for Morocco part 2

Meant to include yesterday that Viajes Normandie provided the forms for us to complete for personal entry and exit into Morocco and filled out and printed off a completed D16 Ter form for the temporary import of our Burstner.
Regarding punctuality we arrived at the port this morning before 9 for the 10 o'clock boat to TangierMed and have been told it is now the midday boat..... I am writing this from the quayside looking at sea which is completely devoid of boat. That they just let us in does suggest however that they are confident a boat is on its way......sur la vie - maybe the advice re Ceuta being more punctual is valid. Might be worth checking out - Anyone able to comment from experience?
This morning, at first light, the Mercadona car park had about 30 motorhomers in with room for a whole lot more
Will send a picture if I can ever work out how (too big a file from my phone)
Have fun
Next despatch from AFRICA!:thumb:

Pet passport

Following my last (one only) post I find the pet passport on page 8 shows the Rabies Serological Test stamped and signed, and the dates show it was done within 30 days, and no breaks between vaccination dates.
However, I am on my second passport and the vet did not bring forward all the original information and page 8 is blank.. So I'm screwed.. As I changed vet a while ago.
Please check your pet passport. Just a warning!

STRESS..... lol. :Rofl1:
Or I could be depressed reading all these post of people bogging off to Spain etc... Not long now.. :thumb:

We have got ourselves a couple of Walkie talkie radios and just looking through the literature an it say will work in Spain etc but does not mention Morocco, they are Binatone 150 Latitude . Any one use them in Morocco and do you know why they would not work there. thanks.

Walkie talkies will work anywhere Carol. But like CB radios make sure they are out of view, as they are banned in Morocco.

They will work everywhere.... Most probably PMR 446 radios..
Not an issue with them working as you have a matched pair But can breach license laws.. BUT. dont worry about that, cant see any issues... Most of us have a pair of those and a few of us used them in Morocco...

I have a pair of radio ham handhelds that Polar bear and myself were going to use to give us a better range... However, Jayne and Graham cant make the trip but they will still come in useful and i can always use them for a barter... :thumb:

Bugger. Would not have bought them if I had known.:Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

They do have a purge on them from time to time, so its always worth remembering that any two way radio system is banned in Morocco. If you do have a CB aerial on your van and it can be removed whilst entering Tangier then its best not to tempt fate. If they do have a purge on, they will confiscate your equipment and if you want it back when you leave it will take time and cause you considerable delay. Its often better to be warned in advance on these subjects as many have had to find out the hard way as no one told em. As they often say in the UK, ignorance of the law is no defence .

i didnt know walkie talkies were illegal in Morocco.
We used ours last time in Morocco every time we reverse or park up on a site.
I would think that local plod is normally too busy trying to catch MHs speeding to worry about walkie talkies on campsites.
we will still use ours but will be more circumspect in their use from now on.
Thanks for the warning.

Yes Brian... It is...

Find the Mcdonalds / Carrefour / Lidl... It's attached to Lidl..

Just to say the office for Viajes Normandie attached to Lidls was shut when we got there (apparently permanently) with a redirection sign to their other/new office as per Andrews map attachment - this thread - page 60. It is easy walking distance.

Our crossing in the end was delayed 2 1/2 hours. It was windy but we stood the entire trip queuing and getting our passport formalities sorted so can't say the delay had anything to do with weather.......

..... But upon the subject of passports can't emphasise enough the need to get the CIN clearly stamped in your passport. Mine wasn't, the officer corrected it but in ballpoint pen and not well. When we got off the boat and through to the check area I spent a happy half an hour running around to get it verified and the import of our van accepted. We were pretty well first off the boat and just as well - Moroccans it seems have no comprehension of the concept of 'form an orderly queue....' It was chaos behind us !

Thanks to Suggy's advice we now have a Maroc telecom sim in the iPad courtesy of their shop in Asilah - (60dhiram purchase inc 10 days data - then 100 dirham/30days top up) this is working absolutely fine. Would have carried this out on a phone (and networked from the phone) but both of ours are on contract and locked - the man at Maroc Telecom said we would have to find an alternative organisation if we wanted one unlocked.......

More later, suffice to say we are loving the trip:thumb:

Thanks on update... Will have to look into the ticket shop opening, wonder if it's been giving them problems at Lidl ??? Hence the new parking area...

Having that number correct was one of the most important tips I learned before the 2013 trip, they never print very well and you need it to be correct.. Our group went and queued as soon as we got on the boat as we noticed some had already started...

Great news on the sim card so you are now in contact.. :thumb:

The above showed interest in Morocco 2014 but have had little contact with Andrew or myself recently.. Some of the group have already started on their way and in Spain now, others already in Morocco and a group of 3 (me included) will leave UK on 6th Jan 2014.
Just so we know if you want to still travel with us, please get in touch and let us know... :thumb:

Then a slow run down to ferry for morocan crossing

But as I said no plans till next week

Much to be done in preparation for the trip. Been considering buying Garmin Morocco on .SD card for my Nuvi1490T but seems a lot at £74.99. Any cheaper options about........ or just buy a paper map maybe :Rofl1:

Hi there, Daiboy here and I'm currently in Torremolinos, thinking of heading into Marocco with you all early part of January. I've been to Marrakesk by air a few years ago but not with a Motorhome. I'm thinking of running up to Benidorm for Christmas as there are hardly any Brits here and I do fancy a bit of company over the festive season.

Can I join you for Marocco, and where's the best place to stay in Benidorm?

Daiboy.
