Confirm time..

As some members are soon to start off heading for Spain etc.
Now may be a good time for anyone who intends to cross with us as a group to let us know...

Plans at present are that several of the 2013 group plus a few others will arrive at Bellavista on 12th January for a 2 night stopover.. Then on 14th move to Algerciras for a meet up, obtain tickets, shopping and and overnight at the nearby parking area (see above post).
Crossing Wednesday morning 15th January.

We are going to negotiate a discount on ferry tickets (if we can) but need approx number who will be crossing on that day...
So... If you plan to join us for the crossing can you please confirm here ASAP..
You can meet up at Bellavista or if you dont want to use the campsite then be at Lidl Algerciras on the 14th.

Many of you have already sent me contact details and I will pass these on to my newly appointed secretary ( MrMotorhome) who will be keeping a list.... He has excellent office skills but his timekeeping and dress sense are a lot to be desired.. :Rofl1:

MOROCCO... - NOT LONG NOW..

PS... I am leaving UK on 6th January and will be in Calais that night.. Driving down through France and Spain. Anyone one who wants to run down at the same time is welcome.. Send me a PM

Finally !!

Yippee ! Eureka!! Whooppee !!!

At last we have the van back where it belongs...... parked in the sunshine behind our house:thumb:.

Been unavailable to us for one reason or another since we returned from Italy in August which has been an almost unbearable separation as the van has become such an important part of our lives.

Been a good year for trips having squeezed in journeys to Morocco, Portugal, France and Italy and we can now begin planning for Morocco Revisited in 2014.:BigGrin::Smile:

Regards, Bryan

We could change our plans to fit in with the revised dates. Meeting on 15th and crossing on 16th were the dates when the thread first started?

Thanks Mike and Gwen, I've changed your date to the 15th Jan. Any thoughts on meeting up at Bella Vista or Aljericas?

Looking forward to seeing your new van. :thumb:

We will see you at Algeciras.
We are sailing from Portsmouth on the 8th and will drive pretty much straight down, possibly calling in at Zahora to see the Funsters there if we make good time.

Yes but when I said plans might change I meant that I would be the one changing the plans not someone else!:Doh::Doh:

Sorry Mike, getting confused with all the dates. It must be my age :Rofl1:

To confirm your posts, you will be travelling to Morocco on the 16th Jan from Aljericas . :thumb: I will update the list shortly to the 16th?

Andrew, our original plan was to arrive at Lidl on 15th and cross on 16th ( see post on first page of thread).
However we can quite easily change to meet up on 14th and cross with the multitude on 15th
However, if there are indeed more than 20 going it might be worthwhile thinking about splitting the group over more than one day. I am not concerned about the driving (we can easily split into mini convoys of 3 or 4) but more concerned about what would happen if 25 of us turn up at somewhere like Ocean Bleu or El Jadida.
What do you think?

I think 20 vans on the boat and we can have our crossover party.
Once over I am sure the group will soon split and unlike last year we will travel in small mini convoys... Once at Bellavista we can arrange better, like you I have no issue if we need to split and travel over 2 days..
At present there could be 18 vans but lots have not confirmed so that could change downwards...

Hi Mike,

I do not think it is anybody's intention to travel around Morocco and arrive at camp sites in large convoys. :Eeek: As per the above post, this is to only help others travel to Morocco and maybe get a reduction on the ferry if we can at the same time.

As soon as the list is firmer, Steve and I will be emailing everyone with some co-ordinates, telephone numbers etc allowing everyone to make their own decisions.

Re camp site: If I remember correctly last year with the 'Frontrunners' it was more of a problem whether the many French and Germans  arriving before us in their convoys :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

I have already agreed to travel with a small group as I am sure we will all do.:thumb: Steves' cross over party sounds good!

We are on the Ferry to Spain next Tuesday hooray, looking forward to meeting up with you again.

Hi Andrew

We're planning to head on down to Algerciras from the Algarve at the weekend (so getting a bit like a kid at Christmas now).
Had planned to visit 'Emporium Carlos' and simply see what deal was available but (reading your note) is there some deal in place already? Do we need to quietly pass him our MHF membership details or is there perhaps a password or phrase with which he would recognise us (with or without carnation in button hole)?
Feel free to speak plainly :Wacko:if this has already been discussed in the thread but 'fraid Internet has not been a constant companion on this trip and whilst I've tied to keep up with what's going on would hate to undermine any careful bargaining by blundering in and either paying too much and setting an unfortunate precedent or bargaining too hard etc etc:Doh:

Regards

Barry

I think standard rate is €200 for an open return.... We have not got any special deal as yet and it's more based on a volume of vans all going at the same time... Snowbird got us a deal for the 2013 trip when we had 15? vans.. From memory we paid €180 / 190... Not a huge discount but something anyway..... Appreciate if you can let us know a current price and maybe ask them when your in the office what price on say 12+ vans..... :thumb:

PS... Just booked my Dover - Calais crossing for 6th Jan.. :)

Anyone have an idea what the cost of buying motorbike insurance from one of the Moroccan Assurance Frontiere is currently? I've trawled around and got prices for cars and vans but info on bikes seems to be unavailable.

We need to get an idea in the next couple of days or else we will leave the bike in Portugal and pickup on the way home. Why?

Here's the rant:Angry::shout::shout::shout::shout::shout:

Before we left home all a bit busy but had organised green card for the Burstner for £32.50p. I was however a bit slow sorting out same for the motor bike that lives in the garage at the back of the van.
When I rang them Carole Nash came back with a quote of £230. I said it sounded way too dear, they came back with £170. After a little chat I declined and the polite lad at the other end said email us with the reasons why you think it's unreasonable and we will put it to Aviva, the insurers, again.
When we got down to the Algarve I did, with photos of the additional locks, Oxford Hardcore chain and anchors on the garage floor, the new Thatcham alarm da de da de dah. They came back with £236 but for only 75 days green card (a 90 day period for the green card would need to be referred back to Aviva BUT as the bike would be out of the UK for more than 90 days in total (inc the EU bit) they required an additional £137.80p to maintain the comprehensive cover against which the green card is issued. THAT'S £373.80 for 75 days green card on a 125 Honda that spends most of its life locked inside the van!:Eeek::Eeek::Eeek::Eeek::Mad::Mad::Mad::Mad::Mad:

Needless to say I declined the quote and advised them that we would need to consider an alternative insurance company when we get to renewal. The bizarre thing is that both the Burstner and the Honda are currently covered by Aviva:Doh::RollEyes::RollEyes::RollEyes:

As Meldrew would say " I don't :censored:2 believe it!"

Keep smiling

Barry and Sue

Thanks Steve. Will update around Tuesday Wednesday next week.

Bizarre isn't it, we've been away since 8th October and had a brilliant time travelling down and even better down here on the Algarve on Chickenrun but now, all of a sudden, I'm getting really excited!

Almost can't wait..........

Barry and Sue

Hello Barry, yep as Steve has already mention €200 for open return. They might start of at around €220 but will drop it to the above price when pushed.

We only have an email agreement they might reduce it slightly further if we supply them with a list travelling on the same day. I assume the larger the list the bigger the discount. :thumb:

Sorry cannot help with the bike insurance problem.
