Hi,

Right finally made a decision about how i'm travelling to Morocco, bit late in the day, as all the ferries are sold out!!

I shall be arriving at Gijon at midday on the 31st December, so not sure I will have enough time to get down the country to celebrate New Year with anyone.............may well be another "Pinkie No Mates" celebration! :Rofl1:

[HI]If anyone has any suggestions of a good place to stop - can I get to Malaga in that time[/HI]?

Your 'stops' will depend on when you have decided to cross over into Morocco. Its about a two day comfortable drive to Malaga area if you intend to go to Morocco immediately. If you decide to go later, you will have time to enjoy a bit of Spain.

Once you have decided I am sure there will be many suggestions where to stop / visit on your way down or on your way back. :thumb:

Could somebody please quantify what cover we would require if travelling to Morocco. Have just insured with Safeguard after current insurers MHF (Comfort) increased our premium by over £200 due to an accident we had in Lyndas car.

Safeguard covers breakdown and recovery for Europe (requested a green card for Morocco). What other cover do we need? Is it possible to get ADAC cover for x number of months in Morocco or do we need a full year. What is the cost for a larger A class vehicle through ADAC?

Thanks in advance

I am insured with Saga and have just requested a green card for Morocco. They supplied one last year at no extra cost. I also have European breakdown/recovery cover with Saga. I have not been able to get that extended to include Morocco.
As I wanted some sort of cover for Morocco I have used ADAC. They cover the member rather than the vehicle and for a total cost of less than £100 my wife is covered as well. The cover provided is NOT the same as we would expect in the UK regarding the recovery element. ADAC will only pay up to €200. Beyond that they arrange and provide recovery but will bill me for anything above the €200.
If the terrible did happen I would hope to be recovered to Spain by ADAC then contact SAGA.
Realistically I believe and hope the van could be fixed in Morocco.
The ADAC cover is for up to 7.5 tonnes ana although I am not sure about the limit on length it does cover mine - 8mtrs overall.

You know Malcolm. If it cant be fixed in Morocco........Its a write off

That's not an impressive deal.

That limit is only for the recovery element and I could not find anything else let alone anything better. If you know of any other options Brian please share. Unless I hear of anything better I would rather have this than nothing. It also means Cathryn does not need to continue with the AA cover for her car in the UK so we can offset that cost and it makes the whole thing acceptable if not great.

Has anyone used Lebra SIM cards in Europe and do they work in Morocco , are the cost effective .

One step closer !!

Went to collect van from garage last night. Surprise, surprise..... still not ready!!!

There, lying on the floor, one large shiny gearbox and beside it a happily smiling Spanish mechanic........ soon changed his happy disposition when we ripped into him.

Quite proud of himself that the box had arrived but did not seem to grasp the urgency of transferring it from floor to engine compartment...... proceeded to enlighten him in no uncertain terms. Extracted a solemn promise of completion on Tuesday latest....... have broadcast a "flying pigs" warning to the Iberican Peninsula.

At least we are in possession of the gear box, so, one step closer :Angry::Angry:

Basil Fawlty springs very much to mind over this saga !!!

More later

Hi Carol,

Have used the cards for calls and internet in Spain and France but Lebara don't have service in Morocco, limited I believe UK, Spain and France. Many options open to you in Morocco for SIM/DATA cards and once connected to internet, just use SKYPE for all your calls.
Lebara internet option is a max off 500MB @ €10 valid for one month, ok for quick visits on net but not much good for prolonged surfing.

INWI and Maroc outlets were used by many of the 2013 group..... successfully and at low cost.

Regards, Bryan (and Anna)

I agree and just to add - Lebara are great for ringing landlines in UK from Spain but not so clever for calls to mobiles.

Lidl Parking

Further to my post regarding the Spanish police no longer allowing motor homes to overnight outside Lidl - attached is a small poster from Carlos's office showing where you are still allowed to overnight. Apparently you can park (to shop in Lidl) during the day but must move your car when Lidl closes - might prove useful for some. :thumb:

lebra cards in Morocco

Hi there Carol,
Have never used a lebra card ,however as previously mentioned, once in Morocco you best plan is to head for Maroc Telecom shop, available in all towns and most villages Maroc Telecom is cheaper than INWI and has better signal last year cost of dongle was 230 dirhams for dongle and one
month unlimited use ,once you are on line you can use Skype internet strength gets weak in evenings between 5pm -8.30pm as all Moroccans are also using it but still ok also much better signal in day so no problem really,
hope this helps,:thumb:
