Hi there, Daiboy here and I'm currently in Torremolinos, thinking of heading into Marocco with you all early part of January. I've been to Marrakesk by air a few years ago but not with a Motorhome. I'm thinking of running up to Benidorm for Christmas as there are hardly any Brits here and I do fancy a bit of company over the festive season.

Can I join you for Marocco, and where's the best place to stay in Benidorm?

Daiboy.

Hi Daiboy....
Benidorm there are a few funsters there now, several are at Villasol and also on La Toretta.. Sure there will be others around on the other sites in Beni...
Joining for Morocco.. No problem.. Some of us will be here.. http://www.campinglabellavista.com/ on the 12/13th Jan and then moving to Algericas on the 14th.... Crossing on the 15th into Morocco. You can just turn up and meet up where best suits you. Remember you need a Green card for your insurance..

Thanks for the quick reply Tonka. I've been out and about since 12th September travelling down through France, Andorra, Northern Spain and Portugal and latterly Southern Spain. I've had a great time and generally met quite a few nice people but been disappointed by the number of Brits down here in Costa Del Sol for Christmas. I quite fancy going up to Benidorm anyway, it's all part of my journey, so I think I'll give it a try

See you in time for Maroc.

Regards Daiboy

Whatever you do dont come to La Toretta. Its absolutely rubbish since Smudger came here. He has completely taken the site over :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:. It used to be a very quiet place, now its bedlam :Eeek:

That's it then see you at Toretta, you got room for a little one? Spoke to Smudger early this week but didn't expect to be coming to Benidorm then.

Give him my regards.

Daiboy.

Can anyone please help me out with coordinates for Loretta. I can find Villasol on my maps etc but not Loretta.

Many thanks Daiboy.

Reprieve for Andrew and Suggy

General Tonka sar

Important despatch to let Andrew and Suggy know all may not be lost.

Visited Marjane in Kenitre yesterday and found a large a very well stocked beer and wine section albeit at prices that will make you want you to bring as much stock in your motor homes as you can..... e.g. Heineken was on offer at 86 Dh for six 25cl bottles, something else I've never heard of ( sorry name forgotten) at 11 Dh for a 33cl tin, wine seemed to start around 56 Dh bottle.

Sites Report

Asilah has three Guardien sites but the one outside the Medina walls has to be favourite - all seem to be circa 40 Dh night. Really liked Asilah.

Larache we used the old Comarit site, Cetre d'Accuel Comarit, which is now very run down; restaurant closed, facilities effectively non existent - but you can empty the toilet into an open manhole and the Guardien team will fetch fresh water in 5 litre bottles from somewhere........ 40Dh night. Larache is friendly enough but isn't Asilah, it's bigger and somewhat messy, we only stayed to wander Lixus but found it walled in, overgrown and with no apparent access.

Moulay Bousselham - both campsites sites seem fine. The one by the lagoon, Camping International, is better located but was very busy so we stayed at the first site Flamants Loisirs, which was pretty empty. Friendly, good van service facilites, wash house usable and clean, electric included whether you want it or not... 90Dh (CI is we think 70 Dh which might also be why it was so full!!!)

Currently we are at Mohammedia, relaxing and to use as a base for visiting Casablanca. (There is a train service between Mohammedia and Casa - call me a wimp but having driven around Kenitre and through the outskirts of Rabat, and having heard about Casa traffic, I fancy that the train has gotta be a preferable option to a taxi or a bus. We shall see......).
We are on the Ocean Blue site (75Dh) fairly busy but there are still lots of spaces - if a large group of MHFunsters are planning to stay here it probably wouldn't be a problem although it might just be worth phoning ahead.

That's it

Have fun

Barry and Sue

'Twas the week before Christmas

And Daiboy has arrived in Benidorm. Said hello to Mr and Mrs Snowbirds and went shopping and had a coffee with Smudger. I love Benidorm, I tried Costa del Sol but found it unsuitable for a solo British traveller.

Weather here is good, I'll try to add a few photos but it'll be my first time ( I'm a photo upload virgin) minimum of 10C tonight and apparently 17C in the Shade tomorrow.
Daiboy.

Daiboy, Benidorm is like Marmite.. Love it or hate it but most do love it.......

SueBaz.. Thanks on the report.... The beer boys will be pleased but I recon they will just take more stocks this time... I had to move my goal posts on last trip and went from Cider to Lager and then White wine !!! But we survived.. :Rofl1::Rofl1:

Others who do not use ADAC have used Saga. Might be worth a call to them. :thumb:

Hi,

If you are still looking for ADAC breakdown cover, you can email this guy, he set mine up for me, speaks English and was really helpful, then you just phone up to pay for it by card over the phone.

Manfred.Weiss@nrh.adac.de

Hope that helps!

OH NO!!!!

I haven't got a green card - my insurers won't give me one!

Can't I just insurance in Morocco?

Is this going to be a problem?

You can buy insurance at the port when you arrive, others will be along to give you more information I guess. BUT Not cheap from what I recall. Also as someone said, it keeps you legal regarding the police.. But if you had an accident and needed to claim "who knows"....

GETTING SORTED.. Busy and expensive week and it's only Wednesday,,,

Habitation check - DONE
No major issues, unlike last year..

Vehicle insurance renewal - DONE
Renewed with MHF (same as comfort) £20 dearer than last year but £100 cheaper than safeguard..!! They wanted silly money. Green card in post.

Vehicle service - DONE
bit the bullet and paid Fiat to avoid any warranty issues  Please dont comment I already have a thread going on about service costs,,,

Travel insurance - Done
Cheaper than last year so balances out the vehicle insurance

Irene has found out a local butchers can vacuum packs some meat for us, so will be taking a bit more this time.... Get Christmas out the way and I will start re-packing the van....:thumb:

How ironic Steve we've just migrated from Facts to Safeguard as Facts wanted £200 + more than renewal quote because I informed them of an accident which Lynda had in her car. Swopped to Safeguard and will save £300 by the time they do a £50 cash back in 90 days time :thumb:

Had the van serviced earlier - its back in tomorrow for the air handbrake receiver gaiters to be replaced - they were both split (pointed out to me as an advisory at the MOT) and have had to be ordered in. All pay doh

Oh thanks, that's what I was planning on doing anyway - no choice in the matter! Just got worried they needed to see a green card, but I suppose it amounts to the same thing doesn't it? (That's me being blonde again!) :Rofl1:

Pinkie just check if you can, think I seen somewhere that you can only stay for a month if you do it that way .

Could be worth cancelling your current policy if you do not loose to much money explaining why and see how much Comfort is who will issue a green card.

Pm. bryandh.

I know he bought at the docks but could only get a month and hence left early with us, otherwise would have stayed longer....
Brit insurers will either give them free or like mine charge a small fee. (£17.50)..

Saga, Comfort and Sageguard all cover Morocco and are able to provide you with a 90 day ‘Green Card’ which covers you fully comprehensively while in the country.

If I remember correctly, insurance at the border is around €80 - €90 and is third party only. If you are able to claim a refund from your present insurance, it might work out cheaper to change your insurance before you leave?

Worth considering anyway.:thumb:

I am with Bryan now. True he only got cover for 1 month it cost 900 dirhams. He could have taken cover for 90 days and it would have cost 2000 dirhams. That would have been for the minimum legal requirement for the country ie third party only. Hope this clarifies. :thumb:

Hi,

My insurance is complicated at the moment, so I can't change it and it will need to be a month for us then. Never mind, as long as I get what I want to done and enjoy the trip it will be fine - I need to get Poppy back into school anyway now and get some order back into my house!!! :Rofl1:

Please be aware that if you take it for a month and then change your mind and want to extend it - Bryan was quoted a further 2600 dirhams for another 30 days. That is why he came home early. :thumb:

gutted

Well after a totaly crap week
Our white rat westy got a womb infection and had to be spayed
Then we have just got rabies test back and score is too low for moroco back into spain

I think you can get get cover for 90 days but Brian and Kiwi Coss decided to just get 30 days on the assumption they could get another 30/60 days whilst in Morocco.
Turns out you CAN extend the insurance but when Brian and Colin went to a Broker in Agadir the broker was trying to rip them off for about three times the right price so they left morocco earlier than they would have liked.

Lesson - if you are going to buy insurance on arrival and think you will stay longer than 30 days, buy the full 90 days on arrival.
