I CAN DO THREE MONTHS FOR £3K AND I'M A WELSHMAN,I'M SURE A SCOTTISH PERSON SHOULD BE ABLE TO MANAGE THAT EASILY,NO OFFENCE,

Hi Gwyntaxi,

If only I was Scottish!!! (My father was!) From South-East near London originally and have never budgeted in my life, (not proud of that fact!) I am determined to budget for this trip though........always a first time and Morocco could be the place to do it!

Stuff the beans. That box will take 45kgs. I believe that equates to about 40ltrs of tinto, 1.5ltrs of rosado and 3.5kgs of best middle cut. Done deal.:thumb::thumb::BigGrin:

We have just been doing our must have list for morroco
And on it is the dreaded genny a little 750 watt kippor:Rofl1:
We have 2 110 batterys plus a solar pannel I have no idea what size but I have seen it put in 7 amp on a good day

So does genny go or stay at home ?

YES.. !!
Up till recently we only had 1 x 110 battery and an 80w panel.. We managed fine inc stops at sites on Spain where we did not bother with electric hook ups.
Most sites in Morocco give you electric in with the price, if you stay for a time on "guardian" parking then your panel and batteries should last you...

If you have anything that must have 220/240 then I can understand the dilema but we did not need one last year. We went on sites to do the BIG WASH and used their EHU but there were no occasions where we needed a genny. Just as well since we did not have one. :Rofl1:
In order to use a hairdryer think about an inverter. Use it in the morning and MRS SUNSHINE will replenish your batteries in no time.
Guy next to us at Tabernes at the moment has a genny. That means we are next to two pains in the arse, him and it.
If you need more power have more solars fitted at Taghazoute beach.

Leave the genny bring other good stuff instead....... beer, wine, then more beer ! :Rofl1::Rofl1:

The guy who fits solar panels at Tagazhoute was doing them for about 120 euros last winter fitted. And he did a much neater job than the dealer back in Uk had done. In fact when he got on the roof of my van and looked at the wiring I think he said something in Berber along the lines of " who installed this pile of sh*t then?" He tidied everything up and put all the wiring in proper plastic trunking ands generally did a very neat job.
He also has solar controllers so I don't it would be a problem if you had a couple of panels fitted and needed a bigger controller.
There's no need for a Genny in Morocco - there is so much sun that if you have solar panels your batteries will normally be fully charged by lunchtime. If you have anything that uses a lot of juice such as a washing machine, hair dryer, Remoska etc just use it early enough in the day so the sun has time to replenish the batteries.
I managed to get the dealer to fit one solar panel as part of the deal when we bought our new van. I intend getting another couple of panels when we get to Tagazhoute.

Hi Andrew

We[STRIKE] could probably be[/STRIKE] ARE persuaded that this is a good idea !!!

However.....:Doh::Blush:

We have some friends flying in to Agadir that week and staying at a 'HOTEL' - its a birthday celebration on 20th (so definitely not then - and we will want to spend some time with them) - the week ending Sunday 19th Jan or after Monday 27th Jan would suit us better......... but apart from 20th/21st we can probably squeeze it into our diary !!!!

Look forward to seeing you al

Hi,

Right finally made a decision about how i'm travelling to Morocco, bit late in the day, as all the ferries are sold out!!

So I'm travelling Hull - Zebruggee, then Saint Nazaire to Gijon, which I'm quite excited about.

I shall be arriving at Gijon at midday on the 31st December, so not sure I will have enough time to get down the country to celebrate New Year with anyone.............may well be another "Pinkie No Mates" celebration! :Rofl1:

If anyone has any suggestions of a good place to stop - can I get to Malaga in that time?

Still, I'm booked and on my way. Charlie-Brown had rabies booster today, so he's sorted, just need to check on jabs for us!

Are you touring France and Spain before heading down to Algecras girl. Zeebrugge-St Nazaire-Gijon-Algeciras is a hell of a way round. It must be somewhere around 3000 klicks before you start.

All ferries sold out ?? Dover - Calais, cant believe that......
As Snowbird says your doing a lot of miles that you dont need to do ..
I will start looking about Christmas time and cross to Calais on 4 or 5th January with a run down the Western Route into Spain...

When you say all the ferries are booked out I can only assume you wanted to sail on one day in particular or you wanted a particular route. Other than that I cannot see why you would choose the itinery above. Also not sure what you refer to by 'can I get to Malaga in that time. If you mean for New Year celebrations - NO. If you mean by 8th or 15th of Jan then no problem. Either way enjoy your journey.:thumb::thumb:

Oh blimey!

Replying to you all now!

All LD Line Ferries are booked up from UK to Spain, there are none available any day at all.

Brittany Ferries UK to Spain are available but no dogs allowed on the route.

So opted the route I've taken to avoid massive drive down to the South Coast and then big drive at other end.

I thought it's not too far from Zeebrugge to Brittany is it? Stop for lunch somewhere and catch ferry to spain in the evening.

Also enables me to see a bit of France, whilst hopefully getting to warmer weather quicker.

Is there a blonde logic in there anywhere?!! :thumb:

I cant see it just looks to much hassle......
2 ferries to get to Spain !
You have a motorhome so why not drive it...

Ok maybe the hull ferry could make sense, especially if you can get an overnight kip....

Ehu-genny-solar power

Hi there,
I doubt very much you will need a genny,we always manage fine with 2x110
amp batteries and our solar panels for the full 10-11 weeks we stay in Moro
cco,on the rare occasion when we went for one night on site to do our big laundry wash i.e.bedding etc.we never bothered with hook-up then, though we're all different, some folks can'tn even camp for a long weekend without
hook-up,if i had that problem i'd have probably decided that life out in natural surroundings was not for me,no leavev the genny at home it'just dead weigh
-t and you won't win any popularity contests with whoevers'camped nearby
as most folk frown upon genny's anyway,I'm sure you'll be fine with your 2x
-battery and solar panel cos 7 amp is a healthy output for charging your batt
-eries.:thumb::RollEyes::thumb:

Hi there Pinkie,
You've really got me puzzled now,if you drive to Hull or Dover you will have virtually the same distance to drive albeit on a different side of tha channel,
you'll have no problem getting a ferry at literally any time of day any day of
week from Dover and what you'l lsave on miles and deisel you'll pay in ferry
charges, and the ferry from BRITTANY to Spain! I may be wrong but I don't know of any ferry from BRITTANY to Spain. You seem to be making very hard work for yourself,no offence, just trying to help.:thumb::thumb:

LD Lines St Nazaire to Gijon to the west of Santander.
St Nazaire used to be in Brittany but is now in the Departement of Loire-Atlantique, I believe.

Oh Nooooooooooooo! You won't get any warmer weather now unless some new changes with Mother Nature!
Right the opposite! It's getting colder and colder, and snow arrives a bit everywhere!
But again, no one knows .... you might be lucky! ..Just a warn....France is not Spain or Marocco. It's hot in summer and goes quite cold and dull and windy and very often snowy in most parts of the country at that time of the year.
Now if you insist on going that way, don't forget to buy chains . You won't be asked to put them on the main roads (unless real big problems) but if you have to cross the Pyrénées , then you will get stuck if you don't have the required equipement, as Police won't let you go on.

That is sound advice from one who lives in France.

Now it makes sense but for me Zeebrugge to St N would be more than a 1 day drive. I know people who have used St N crossing and reported it to be a good one.

Hi Frankie,

No, sorry didn't mean warmer weather in France, I meant getting DOWN to the warmer weather quicker!

Okay, so the votes seem to be:

Hull to Zeebrugge IS OKAY, (was euros 495 return with dog and cabin)

Saint Nazaire to Gijon (was £347.82 return with dog and cabin) IS NOT OKAY

I actually thought I would probably spend the same on fuel anyway, so it got me into Spain.

WOW!!!! I just checked on the map and didn't realise it was 7hrs drive to Saint Nazare from Zeebrugge.

Going to check what I can cancel.

:Doh::Doh::Doh: DOH - I'm Blonde and I know it!!!! :Rofl1:

OKAY - just cancelled the Hull - Zeebrugge section! At a cost of £126 cancellation fee - OUCH!!!

Next time I shall check with you lot before I make a decision about anything!

Will drive down from Scotland to the South Coast and get boat across then drive to Saint Nazaire for boat into Spain (no cancellation allowed).

Thanks guys.

And I think you will find its a lot longer than 7 hours..
Remember your in a van not a car.. Use tolls it gets expensive, use non toll and add to the time.. PLUS you never know what the weather will be like....
