The night we crossed someone got to 70 and stopped counting on the Lidl car park.. :Eeek:

Meet me in Manilva end of March with a big bag of cash and I will sell you mine.

:Rofl1::Rofl1:

Wow, have never seen that many at Lidl. I was on there last week and there were several people begging going from car to car and standing by the trolleys, bit of a nuisance too be honest.

If anyone going into Gib for fuel there are people asking for a fee to enter Gib, ofcourse there is no fee to enter. I have seen loads of people handing money over though!

Yours looks a nice MH on the pic, but we aren't ready to buy yet unfortunatley

Our Route So Far.

Portsmouth to Le Havre with DFDS - decent crossing on a clean and tidy boat with little in the way of support services. As all I wanted to do was have a drink and sleep it served it's purpose.

Sat nav did not like the instruction to avoid all Tolls and having had a couple of goes on other routes we paid up to cross the Normandy bridge. Using non toll road we got slowly to Fougeres in Brittany and called a halt. Nice Aire with usual services, kept clean, level hard standing. Had a good walk round and back to van just as the rain started.

Made use of free Brittany motorway as far as Cholet then by good N roads to Poitiers where we picked up another free motorway as far as Chaunay. A good choice for somewhere to overnight. Their Aire has free EHU . Walking around we were feeling that there was not much to do and called in to the local Hotel bar :BigGrin:. Another good move. A couple of British guys were setting up keyboards and guitar for later in the evening. We quickly went back to the van, ate and returned to the bar :thumb::thumb:. A fantastic night. Wonderful atmosphere. I got the feeling that folk here don't get out much and at this 'first event under the new management' everyone was determined to make the most of it and enjoy themselves.

A late start the following morning and a walk about again to buy bread and have coffee before moving on. Just a bit short of Bordeaux we turned off to Marcenais and parked up on a huge area of level red stone chip. No services but very quiet.

Today we have arrived in Hendaye. The Aire at the station has closed and the area is being flattened and re-surfaced. The signs directing Motorhomes to this point are still in place but I have no idea if the 'stationment' will be reinstated.

Into Spain tomorrow. Still not absolutely certain which way we will turn but I am leaning towards Vinaros then south along the med and back via Portugal in April rather than Portugal now. Even tho' the next two weeks forecast looks better in Portugal than Spain. I don't suppose I will get it right but a decision will have to be made tomorrow.

Although our departure will be seriously delayed, our preparations continue nonetheless and this morning we had last of the jabs needed,...... I think, unless Co-Pilot comes up with others. Is Hep A advisable ?
Still do not have van back as gearbox parts in Spain totally unavailable, last we heard they might need to be sourced from UK !!

However, in spite of everything, Morocco revisited is very much on the cards :thumb:

Good luck with the van.. Need any help UK side let us know ( Although I know bugger all about motors)...

Is Hep A advisable ?

We think Hep A is advisable, especially if you eat shell fish - bottom feeders! :Eeek:

I read it lasts for 25 years if you have had a booster - best check with your doctor as you may have had it before. :thumb:

See you both around Morocco ..... :thumb:

We had a similar problem last year. Fortunately for us it was a noisy bearing and a new one was found quickly. I was told by a gearbox specialist that neither Fiat nor Citroen who made the gearbox are supporting them any longer ie they do not make or supply spares. Had I needed replacement gears they would have to come from a second-hand box or be made in a friendly engineering shop. I did note as we drove down through Portugal last year that there are many very large scrapyards with commercial vehicles such as Fiat Ducatos of the same era as ours. Thing is if they are that age, are those boxes knackered as well. Is your problem with gears or shaft or something else?

Hi Malcolm.
Dodgy bearing, two worn gears and also shaft problem or so I am told.... know absolutely nothing about such stuff. You are quite right about spares not being available or supported by, in our case, FIAT. Our mechanic searched through some "central agency" in an attempt to source a second hand box but as you say it might be no better than what we have, and in any case none seem to be around.
Two options open to us, exchange box or source new parts from UK with the time delay that goes with that (cannot help but think of Mike/Gwen and a 20 day wait). Have told mechanic today to order exchange box........ :tears::tears::tears:...no idea how long that will take.
Going to bank tomorrow for a mortgage !!!

Hi Kath,

Hep B....... 2 doses, one month apart before travel and third dose 6 months after first dose. Lasts 15 years

Tetanus / Diptheria booster only. Lasts 10 years

Cholera 2 x Soluble powders taken at weekly intervals. Lasts 2 years.

Pneumonia 23 Lasts 3/5 years

Finally today, Flu annual.

The only one which was a problem time wise was the Hep B given our other travel plans.

Hope this is helpful but of course requirements probably vary and you must be guided by your GP.

Regards, Bryan

PS: Going to chat with doc next week to ask about Hep A and Typhoid, told last year they were not really necessary for Morocco. Would just like to have the "full set".

Things have changed a bit here at hilldwellers, looks like we wil be able to make the mid Jan crossing.

My thought is quick down south then slowly back. After all, the weather is the main reason for going.

After reading Makems ferry msg......

6M MH and 2 bodies £678 return to Bilbao.

£354 one way which lets us be flexible on the return route.

Hands up all who think that expensive !!

Calais to Bilbao is 746 miles. That's £200 fuel alone. So for £154 you get a night or two in a nice bed and two or three days less driving. Not a bad deal.

Good deal, no pleasure driving through France in rubbish weather. BUSBY.

Hello Moroccan travellers!

As you are all aware there are various groups travelling around Morocco during January 2014. I have been wondering so just testing the water at the moment, do you think we should consider meeting up at for example Tagazhout Beach (Wild Camping) on or around 22/23rd January 2014 - BYOFandD .

Thoughts please...if there is enough interest I will start a list so we will know who might be there. :thumb:

Party time - roar roar, blow blow :Rofl1::Rofl1:

If you make it around 15th Feb we should be there by then
If not then another excuse to meet up and party :Smile::RollEyes:

Who's posted that stupid big picture and made my screen size go silly... !!

Sort it out:Doh:

Party.. :thumb:

OOPs I nearly did a quote of the beach party poster :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

Sounds good to us too :thumb::thumb:

Nah,

We didn't die last year :Rofl1:

Just a thought.

Does the small print in travel insurance documentation require clients to take measures to protect themselves from preventable illnesses ? For instance, keeping vaccinations current ?

Given the state of the "open sewer" waste disposal at Taghazout Beach "foolhardy" is appropriate. No place for bravado........ well, you did ask
