YouTube vanlife drama

If anyone wants a vlog from a slightly different perspective then this (Camping Vanya) is from a single woman. She lost her husband a while ago but decided to carry on camping (sorry about that 😉😂) and produces some gentle, watchable videos. Relaxing music and decent editing Skills - reminds me a bit of Life’s Too Short YouTubers.

It seems the cozy Uk YouTube vanlife bubble has burst .

He seems to be depressed, he also mixes acquaintances with friends, as we all know true friends we can count on one hand could not watch all of the video its so depressing reminds me of Marvin

The dark side of social media. Play on it for too long and it can screw you up.
Seem to be a few struggling. Wills Whereabouts is having a break I see.

I still find Extreme Motorhome Adventures very watchable ;)

Dare I mention Gadget John and his latest van build.

Dare I mention Gadget John and his latest van build.
Who?

What has become clear to me, is that every build(er) on YT claims to know exactly what they are doing, it's rare that you find them providing a 12/24 month review of their commitments?

Some bloke that calls himself Greg Virgo had a load of build videos, and carried on as if he was qualified to provide advice, then he's posting up that his ceiling fans are leaking, his inverter has "poped", he's lost 12v charging to usb ports and all around it seems not to work...

I watched one States based "Professional builder" freely admit that he used recycled Denim as insulation in his earlier vans o_Oo_Oo_O

There are some jewels in the feed, but not many !

Cheers

I always thought he sounded dodgy lol but there's a few on here think he's knowledgeable. End of the day they are all diy'ers like the rest of us . There's things they might be good at and other stuff they won't.

But most of us don't create youtube videos pretending to be experts.

Some of his gas advice causes us a nightmare, he’s told them to use paste on compression fittings ⚠️
They use so much paste that they think the joint is tight when all they have done is compress the paste no the olive ⚠️
Did try to tell him but wasn’t interested.

The problem is on YouTube it’s all about self promotion and the idiots that post the videos get to control the comments .
Very much like propaganda. You can see the controlling nature of the posts where the channel owner will often respond to a comment and then block the user so they have no voice and the channel owner gets “ the last word” . It’s pathetic really . That’s why it’s important to make genuine Motorhome enthusiasts aware of these YouTube specimens .

I was stupid enough to think he was knowledgeable but I only looked at the carpentry side of things which was better than most factory instals . I now have to admit some of the electrical advice was appalling ,with some elements of the work being “ signed off “😂 by GJ . I remember the inverter “ going pop “ now 😂

Even though we extensively travel whilst not working I wouldn't want to share (other than on this forum) and even then I only share my thoughts and information of our travel locations through words and pictures.

Those happy days have changed everything again, apparently staying parked up because they are " mentally and medically " exhausted.
Still trying to flog stuff though , some sort of vegan protein yesterday.
You couldn't make it up.

Have you noticed that in most of the vanlifers that are couples only one ever drives? With all I have seen it is the man. Even with camper vibe, which is two women, only one of them ever drives.
Whydont more women drive? I don’t get it. I used to tow the caravan, and now I drive the van. We simply share the driving.

Julie can and does drive our van but we just seem to share the jobs, I drive and do the toilet and filling and anything mechanical if it crops up, she does the cooking and washing, seems to work ok.

Tread the globe, she drives most of the time. Yes it's a little of an exception. We have to fight who drives ours.

It's OK the Autumn colours are sorting them out and making it all better.

I'll tell you why I do it, it's simple, because I'm better at it. 😀

I'm sure there is no need for such bad language, children can log on

The only thing I read about or view connected with life in a van/motorhome is Northernraider,s travels. The guy at the start of this thread would put a glass eye to sleep !

I watched Those Happy Days latest video yesterday complaining about so much going 'wrong' during their recent trip to Europe.

For a guy with a Journalism degree you'd had though he would be good at background research! Most of the issues raised could have been solved with a £20 investment in MHF and an hour spent on Google searching travelling in Europe in my converted removal van!

A real life example of fail to plan, plan to fail.

If you have watched their story, it’s all about vehicles and kit breaking down, making wrong decisions and garnering sympathy (and cash via u tube). Even their van which has not been repainted because they want it to be stealthy stands out like a sore thumb because of the original sign writing.
Its a typical Van life channel that struggles sometimes to have decent subject content.

These pair just get worse and worse, in the video before the last they were supposed to be parking up for afew weeks with mental problems, but now suddenly in their last one they have miraculously recovered enough to be in Whitby jumping up and down in fancy dress.

Whitby, Fancy Dress sounds like a melt down not a cure 😈😈😈🤩🤩🤩🤩

As folk have said there's a lot of good and bad you tube channels. I think it's the created drama , wrong advice and just seeking followers for the sake of revenue folk dislike.

I watch quite a few of them. Many are doing the same thing I'm doing , but some are doing harm to vanlife with their videos and some are just out to make money.

Would I like to find a way to earn money while travelling....of course I would.

But if it means doing stuff I don't like , or trying to sell overpriced clothing , mugs etc with my name on it, or promoting useless equipment like jackery etc I just can't bring myself to do it
If you want an example from a good you tuber I can suggest itchy boots👍
