YouTube vanlife drama

It's interesting reading all the above. We have started a channel but the premise for me is that it's a way to freely save our holiday vids, and to add info on how we went about planning and including places and facts we like. We often get asked about how , what, where, when etc for me it's a place to put it all down in one go.
We have also recently retired and I am finding this an interesting hobby that I am learning. It's somewhat embarrassing to say I am a 'you tuber' but in essence thats what it is. I am not interested in making money out of it, I am no professional. Can we have a different name created for people like is who are not init to make money and do it to enjoy, not to upset people and please done watch my vids if you don't like us.
I do however agree with a lot of what is being said. I have seen all the above channels and am hopefully learning what not to include. Our pet hate is watching people shop and eat. Most of us know how to do that already, is just about the same in every country.
 
The dark side of social media. Play on it for too long and it can screw you up.

As folk have said there's a lot of good and bad you tube channels. I think it's the created drama , wrong advice and just seeking followers for the sake of revenue folk dislike.

I watch quite a few of them. Many are doing the same thing I'm doing , but some are doing harm to vanlife with their videos and some are just out to make money.

Would I like to find a way to earn money while travelling....of course I would.

But if it means doing stuff I don't like , or trying to sell overpriced clothing , mugs etc with my name on it, or promoting useless equipment like jackery etc I just can't bring myself to do it

I think your travels would actually very enjoyable to watch . Certainly much much better than most of the vanlife rubbish on YouTube.

I can understand if a channel has over 100k subscribers then it’s probably a good business move to produce merchandise for their “ fans .”
What I can’t understand is when a channel has a few thousand subscribers and they produce this “ merch “ and expect people to actually buy it 😆.

Problem is I never edit anything, I don't really know how and I hate how I sound on video. I'm not sure it would be watchable to most. I can't even figure out how to add music to my wee drone videos without getting in to bother for copyright. So my YouTube channel is set to private and I only use it to host the odd video.

Even Instagram stretches my technical abilities. I still can't figure out how to store the wee story things

This is stuff you could learn how to do if you worked through it all steadily .

I am the other way round. Instergram, I can not get the handle of, but can do the vids, but like you I hate my voice, but I think most people do not like there voices.

Totally thats what the unsubscribe button is for.You have to watch or meet these people to form an opinion .I have had upto 20 channels on my subscribed list .You soon learn I now have five .Plus they wont stay forever .T R Radfords come across as this family who love M/homing ,you soon learn they are only doing it for money .They make out they have this fantastic company that provides all there lifestyle .Look into them ,its not pretty .I hope they have there taxes in order ,because its a long way down fromthe top

I watch quite a few but haven't subscribed to any, in fact I can't on my TV, when they point up or down there is nothing there.

Yeah and Ive seen a few of yours, decent info and no Vanlife shite.
How can I put it...amatuer enough to make it interesting and not like "pretnetious" , but professional enough to have enough facts and interesting things to see.

I have just scanned down this thread and do not understand what these videos you are all talking about are meant to do for the viewer.

As for exhibiting my private life in public I have no interest - and doubt whether other people have any interest.

I hope those who make you tube videos and make them available to everyone keep on doing it, even those whose content is loaded towards making money, I don't have to watch it all or all of them I can watch a bit, skip forwards or just not bother watching at all.

Every now and again there is some useful information in one of them which is worth kissing a few frogs for in my opinion.

I also watch lots of other you tube content, currently my search is on DIY home battery storage of which Will Prowse has produced some useful content.

Will is absolutely brilliant with his knowledge of electrical systems and is a very good teacher. Unfortunately not many YouTubers have the level knowledge he does ,and therefore this can lead to misinformation being spread very easily, and in some cases some very dangerous installations being carried out .

That video somehow popped up on my youtube and I sadly watched around 1 minute of it. As Stephen Fry said about the Donald, he craves attention, the best thing that we can do is just ignore him.

Though to be fair I said exactly the same thing, turns out it's a wiring issue which has melted insulation - he is going to repair with electrical strip connectors ,.....

Look out for a big green removal van fire coming to you tube soon .... (though I hope he gets it professionally sorted so that doesn't happen)

Ps if you do watch it, is the message on the window aimed at someone else ..... ??

And yet I get served adverts all the time on the telly. None on the PC! Crazy.

As for anyone making YouTube videos, your audience will always come and go, it's about the content not you. I am always amazed when a TV show drags out a YouTuber saying they have 12 million followers and I have never heard or seen them!

They can't really blame Liam the terrible, he only did what they told him to do with stuff they had been given, and they still haven't got a proper toilet in it.
And how can they blame the customs people for saying it isn't a motorhome, when it says removals in big letters on the side.
I am beginning to wonder if they actually live in it more than a couple of nights a week.
