Where does your forum name come from?

I used to own one of these amongst other Landrovers , and use the name on the various landrover fora :)View attachment 647227

I‘m sure my FIL used to use them at RAF Shawbury.

Many years ago (80's) in the Central Baths in Southampton was an arcade machine. On the very rare occasion I would be in the top ?50? you could enter your name. Well, three characters of your name. So, Richard became Dick, which in turn became Dik to fit on the screen. Many moons later I moved to Dumfries and DumfriesDik was born.

My username is due to an early employer’s IT team with no imagination and I use it as a sort of positive protest.
That IT Team found there was already a ‘kevinh’ so instead of me being ‘kevinh2’, I was rechristened Keven for ‘kevenh’ to be my user name 😡😠
‘Couldn’t believe it but at least I usually get that username on forums, etc. 🤪
If it’s not free, that often means I’m back at a forum or website I’ve forgotten being on

Ex mode

The ex mode is an extension of command mode. To get into it, press Esc and then : (the colon). The cursor will go to the bottom of the screen at a colon prompt. Write your file by entering :w and quit by entering :q. You can combine these to save and exit by entering :wq. However, if you're finished with your file, it's generally more convenient to type Shift-z-z from command mode.
Can we have that in English please😀

At one of my previous jobs where everyone had a nickname I was 'christened' Chocky as I always had a chocolate bar for morning tea break. Not very original but some of the nicknames were pretty obscure.
Unlike the last job where we had to have (and sign for) training in office respect. Questioned this with HR and told them it was a box ticking exercise that could be used against me at some future date.
Got very cross with me.
No nicknames allowed there as was disrespectful.

Mine is from our boat. When we first bought her, she was called Indecision, but after a few comments we re christened her with a few glasses of wine to Indy.

I changed my original username. It sounded like I was thug gang leader 🤣.

Surprising how people changed their communication and comments on this forum.

My new username. I’m not much of an Anglophile, in-truth, I dislike the UK quite a lot.

I like Europe, own a house on the continent and we like to explore it, but as we both work. At a slightly faster pace than we would like.

I used to play at Judo. I was a quiet player and just happy for a workout. However if my opponent made an illegal action I would change and do 2 and I'd turn into a wild man. You don't have to put people down with force but when riled I did. The youngers saw this and mentioned the red mist, one wit said more like a fog and hence Clivefog was born. Don't turn him into Clivefog !

Given the nickname aged about 5 at school as I looked like the Thunderbirds character.
Went to work aged 16 and got given the same nickname.

Stayed in the same industry although several different companies for 45 years and the nickname stuck.
I even have business cards, from several of the companies I worked at, that just have my nickname and not my real name.

I was also given business cards for China, I found out later whilst they had my real name (difficult to say if you are Chinese) on the front, on the back, in Chinese script, they had my nickname both phonetically and translated.

For many people in the industry, they only know my nickname and not my real name.
