What's the best thing you have added to your motorhome?

1 I think the best improvement is wifi.
2 followed by lithium batteries.
3 Refillable gas saves money.
I can’t say solar panels as they were already there when I bought the van. But I couldn’t last without them.

One improvement I would not add is self levelling???? I really can’t see the point.

Clip on interior mirror rear/front camera display recorder. Lipo x 2 100Ah. 500w solar. Loads of USB sockets. Electric step. Alarm. Refillable LGP bottles.++++ enjoy
 
Silentnight Airmax mattress topper. The standard Bultex mattress is too firm. Unlike a memory foam topper, this one stays cool in summer.
 
The two of us, two dogs, food, drink and the adventure of going somewhere. What else is needed 🙂
 
In order:

Top. Fourth vote for rear air suspension. Solid on the road, makes you look like you are running lightweight to les Gendarmes and useful for levelling on site.
2. 500kg Anssems ally trailer
3. My own design for table mount for DVDs which doubles as a side guard for the electric bed
4. Third vote for Gaslow
5. Top loading DVD players to keep the nippers placated on route
6. 12v water pump to fill from an aquaroll when I can't be arsed to move near a tap.

We have Gaslow cylinders and air suspension on the rear tag axles. The best addition we have added is hydraulic levelling, and if we ever changed our MH, I would do it all again. 😊👍
I also have a tag axle and am interested in the rear air suspension, i'm in Yorkshire , where did you get it done and hoe much?
 
Was that Semi-Air or the quite expensive Full-Air?
Semi-air I believe.

We had it on a previous MH and it totally transformed the handling/ride etc, wouldn't have a coachbuilt/A-class without it, unfortunately for us with our Carthago being on an Alko chassis instead of around £400-£500 for a kit it cost £2,000 to have it fitted (the kit was around £1700).
 
Saves having to worry about where to get calor gas if you're out of the country, although I hear that it's not as easy as it was in the uK now. Filling up with LPG is easy in many garages all over Europe. Go for it!

Definitely the self levelling system and step to the passenger door. Mr Ginam said the self levelling was too much money and a waste of time till I offered to pay for it and then it was a brilliant idea:rofl:

Can you Mel, or anybody, please explain why there is so much difference in cost if the chassis is Alko
 
It’s usually because the installation is not so straightforward. As well as the air springs, there needs to be a heavy steel plate to attach to the end of the trailing arm of the torsion bar that the low Alko chassis uses, then another heavy plate to bolt directly to the chassis, this is on both sides, and sometimes possibly slight modifications to brake pipe or sensor or interface box location or routing necessary. The labour to install is also going to be more as it is a longer install.

If you want it on a twin axle, it’s twice as many parts again and the cost, already more than double, doubles again :)

Once you have committed to spend all that cash, you may as well have an on board compressor, a reservoir, and hey ho, why not go the whole hog and have some in dash displays and pressure adjusters so you have levelling options….

Geoff, Dawsey has pretty much summed it up. The standard chassis vehicle chassis from the likes of Fiat/Citroen/Peugeot take a kit that is pretty much identical just produced by different manufacturers, in greater numbers and are fairly straightforward to fit. Semi-air systems for Alko chassis are more complicated, often made in house/bespoke, or require modification of a bought in kit to make it fit the particular Alko chassis, they also take a lot longer to fit too. Alko kits generally come with a compressor and gauges as standard which obviously add to the cost and also the time it takes to fit the system.
