What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

The fancy umbrella that is slotted into the habitation door has fallen off its attachment yet again. The screw hole in the plastic has cracked.
It’s funny really. Whenever we have non-motohomers visit our van, the first thing they comment on is the umbrella in the door. I tell them it’s the most expensive umbrella I’ve ever bought.

AA trickle Charger connected to the hab battery, also keeps the engine battery topped up, I paid £23 from Amazon though I notice since black Friday the price has gone up to £27.
Nice little bit of kit has 6v and 12v charging and cheaper than the trickle chargers I use for my motorbikes.

I knew you had owned an Autotrail without looking at your avatar as we have the same problem with ours, though the velcro fastening is ok, we did take the useless bin off the door, whoever designed that should be made to stand in the corner.

I also purchased a trickle charger for our engine starter battery and decided to buy this one, Will monitor the battery from time to time with a multimeter to check all is well, time will tell? Probably like most our leisure battery is charged while on hook up but not engine one as no battery master fitted.

A lot of more MHs nowadays have a link to the engine battery, albeit at a lower input, for when on EHU so it should get a charge without a Battery Master.

There may well be a link, if there is it's unknown to me? and without getting an Auto electrician on it to find out, it seems a sensible choice as recently replaced the battery this year. I have checked when I have it on hook up on my drive and my starter battery starts to lose volts but not my leisure. PS bear in mind my MH is 22 years young.

That's pretty normal as the charge from the EHU will serve the leisure battery the 'biggest piece of the pie' and only send a 'small slice' to the engine battery which will have a draw for such things as alarms etc. We find the same thing with ours.

Well I would not call it fixed but the cylinder head gasket went on the way back from salt fleet gale
So I followed Wildman’s advice and put sum kseel well blow me apart from all the rusty water stains under the bonnet you wouldn’t think it had happened watt the hell is that stuff probably gummed up the work’s but seem to have worked Frome stemming traction engine to purring petrol will give it would never have believed it if I hadn’t seen it my shelf a good run today to try it out on to eBay
That was a long sentence of mangled English! Not entirely sure what the message was trying to say

If I can move the van over a couple of feet between daughters parcels being delivered I am going to reinforce the floor of the gas locker. The floor of the locker is a steel mesh that’s fastened to the sides with three flimsy brackets and the bottom of the door frame. I have replaced the end ones with some more substantial brackets.
I noticed the back bracket is completely missing when I changed the bottle last trip out. Considering the weight of two 6kg gas bottles I am surprised a bottle hasn’t fallen through. It’s in line with the front wheel so it must get a lot of battering from road spray.

I think he is trying to advertise without Jim sending him an invoice?

You do know that Bill's post was done in 2013 don't you ... you must be REALLY bored if you're going back over old threads!

Technically, it wasn’t me that fixed it as it was a warranty job but I had new high level brake light fitted yesterday, along with a new burner assembly in the Rapido oven. I have however fitted a 240v socket in the bedroom, (big failing from from Rapido not supplying one from New) and I’ve removed and totally renovated the 45kgs of towbar... Just as well as I found the heavily corroded bolts had neither locking washers or locknuts, 😡

Just been to my Mates commercial garage and put the van over the HGV pit to put new exhaust rubbers on. So much easier than struggling under it on my back. I put genuine Fiat ones on. The ones with the ribbon round them. Hopefully they’re a bit stronger than the spurious ones.
Mentioned to him that it could do with cam belt doing. It’s going in after the new year.

Fixed a poster in a side window facing the road advertising Door Step Carols (see doorstep carols.com) for neighbours to play the music and sing from their door steps at 8pm on December 21st. You may find more local stuff with different dates if you miss off the .com on Google. Just like we did with the clapping the NHS this is a neighbourly thing to do to not let Christmas being a let-down for the families in your immediate neighbourhood. Send out invites to your neighbours with absolutely no strings like donations of any kind, just get out their and sing - even if you think you cannot sing then you are wrong. As someone once, God created the nightingales as well as the crows and he was well pleased with both.

Gas locker bottom repaired, trapped finger***!!!!.
Quite an easy job with a bracket made from ally angle and six pop rivets and some stainless washers. The last rivet had to go in from inside the locker because the rear spring hanger was to close to get the rivet gun in. This meant the bottles had to come out. I have removed and replaced these bottles lots of times before but for some reason putting the back one in I trapped my finger end resulting in a blood blister the size of my finger end.
Why the motorhome designers make a gas locker with a door the size of one bottle and specify two bottles is beyond me.
The locker itself is made from three sides of galvanised metal and fit a steel mesh base and brackets. The bits that rust take the weight of the bottles.
Our first van had the gas locker inside the van with the bottles one behind the other.

Van came with no spare wheel..just a compressor and gunk...
I bought a spare wheel which has been living i the garage ..and the intention was to get it underslung at some point..
Clearance on the back overhang isnt great but I have fitted air assist which can give an inch or two more...so today I started the project.. (y)

Removed the aerial mast from above windscreen on our PVC
Do this every winter as had one broken off on last van due to snow sliding off roof
Put small threaded screw into fitting to protect thread

Solar controller wired up to Cab battery as well✅ ( dual contoller standard but only wired to leisure 👎)

Same problem we had. Flat battery twice during first lockdown despite having a solar panel and wall to wall sunshine for about 5 weeks. Now have a Battery Master, problem solved ...... I hope ;)

Following on from a post above about making a cradle for my spare wheel..for a chausson 620..
The plan to undersling was abandoned.. :(
looking at it wasn't going to change the lack of clearance lol..so a hole was cut into the garage floor and ill have to accept that it does take up some room in the garage.. on the plus side it won't be exposed to the elements and there is a bit space along side the wheel for a few other bits that live in the garage..
pictures below..
While in the garage I also added some support to the cupboard floor above the garage..its so big that I often end up climbing in to it to get at stuff..trouble is the floor is so weak been made from what can best be described as egg box and if I didnt do something I'd end up in the garage one day..
An extra light fitted while I was at it..

Pumped up the tyres - well used my compressor, so not much effort involved 🙂
