What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

Not a fix yet but SWMBO broke the key off when closing the gas locker door so until we try and find a replacement in Spain I’ve use good old Gaffer Tape to keep the door closed. :)

Fitted the twin USB socket to the top of the dash.

No more trailing leads to the cigarette lighter and power outlet.

We used a bungee but our door opens from the bottom

Not a fix, but realised that I've had at least one of my fire extinguishers for over 6 years now, the other 5, while the last one, only 18 months, so replaced 2 of them from the Boat Show today.

We have fixed the Fresh water tank drain cock - we bought a new one before we went to France as the old one leaked - - the new one leaked far more AND got a refund without needing to return it
so also changed the waste drain for one that I can open easily instead of breaking my wrist every time

Also started on the hab door by buying a lock barrel just waiting for the FFF rally to fix it

Last year I fixed one of the front calliper that was sticking occasionally. This week I will have to fix the other one that started sticking a few days ago.
So, not fixed yet, but I have made a start and taken the wheel trim off......

Today I took off the bonnet of our 'van. (As per Avatar)
For some time the paint has been parting company with the bodywork and it was beginning to be embarrassing.
The base coat, a sort of beige? was still there but the white was disappearing.
So, armed with a Lidl sander and not much else I took the bonnet back to beyond the white. In some places I was down to bare metal and in others the base remained.
Using etch primer I gave it four coats before giving it 5 coats of Fiat Blanco.
The result at this moment doesn't look fantastic but I'm assured by the boffins on You Tube that a gentle caress with W&D 2000 Grit and soapy water then a compounding will achieve miracles.
Whatever the outcome, it will be a damn sight better than the awful state it was in.

Fitted and finally got the solar panels working ... see my thread about it!

As I said earlier today, it won't stand inspection closer than 6ft and it has more orange peel than a crate of Jaffa's but it's still miles better than the sight last week.

New brake cylinders on both sides, new shoes.

Scavenged a battery bracket from my car to get the MH through the MOT.

Recrimped all the broken cables under the chassis and now I finally have a working grey water half and full indicator.

Anyone think we have a trip planned

Finished off the installation of the rear view camera today (I KNEW I'd end up doing it!) and I also put in a 'spare' little monitor on the dash near the driver's side A pillar so that if the main one that sits over the rear view mirror ever packs/plays up we can simply change the leads to the back-up one (have had to do this in the past), I just hid the connections for it in the door rubber trim and the connections are hidden under the wheel arch cover on the driver's side ... nice and neat. As I didn't want to 'hard wire' the system into the electrics I spliced the camera and monitor power cables together then fitted a 12v plug to the end of the cable which I'd fed through behind the dash to the little shelf on the right of the dash (see below for why) which is then simply push into a 12v socket when needed and means we can actually have it on even when the engine isn't running ... if we want to spy on people behind us! :X3:

I didn't want to use the 2 existing 12v cab sockets so I also fitted a double 12v socket in the cab above the little shelf on the right below the dash; I fed the cables down behind the covers (using cable ties to keep it secure/out of the way) and under the centre panel straight into the battery box with an in-line fuse. I only really needed one socket but I already had the twin ones so can use the spare one for our dash cam too ... if hubby ever remembers when he put it!

Also whilst I was playing with the electrics I altered the wiring on the radio so that it is 'live' all the time however it has a 'turn off after X minutes' setting so we don't have to worry about a constant drain! (y) (... knew I'd end up doing this too ... :D ).

Just gotta put up an awning light then hopefully that'll be it for the electric stuff ... unless of course I move the switch for the electric step so it can be pressed from the cab ...

Bathroom tap had a little dribble from the swivel spout, took it out and apart, cleaned all the seals and lubricated with a little Vaseline, a bit of a polish and then back together and all is good,

The speedboat fittings were tight and the brass tails had a bit of calcium deposit on them so that was all cleaned up before reassembly.

Halfway through a list of "general maintenance" fixes that I have let go for too long. One item was to tighten a screw holding the handrail by the hab door. It took me two hours and I had to enlist the help of a neighbour. Because to gain access I had to take the b----y fridge out!

Fortunately most of the rest are turning out to be 5/10 minute jobs. Then it'll get washed and polished, which will probably take a bit longer...................

I’m interested. What Power source did you use for these?

Hi,

I piggybacked off of the illumination feed for electric windows switch ,yellow and black on mine, so comes on with lights . Extra wire into the multi lock connector for switch

Also flattened the head of led with a Dremel as that gives a diffuse light rather than a spot

Yvette wanted more worktop space so I have made and fitted a fold down extension by modifying a Swift caravan chest of draws top bought off eBay which was the closes I could get to the original worktop colour. It was a pain because the worktop end is curved.
