what did you fix today

Gave the motor some TLC today, washed, hot waxed, Auto Glym super resin and then extra gloss top coat to finish it off.

Had it 11 years this May and doesn't look so bad for an old motor even if I say so myself. It's still has the same battery and, apart from 3 that I've changed, has nearly all the same bulbs as when I first took delivery all those years ago:)

we had a 900 for ten years and 200 000 miles

Unstuck the float switch in toilet cassette which must of stuck last weekend when I had the cassette out to clean and grease seal, only noticed the red warning light on today !

Been meaning to give the carpet a dam good clean, especially after mum spilt a mug of tea on it, so using Vanish power foam and see how it comes up after a good deal of elbow grease:)

Just needs to dry and then a hoovering. I'm parked up inside one of our Rub shelters, plugged into the mains so have a nice heater plugged in. It's been on all night so toasty warm in there to start with:)

Today I replaced the heater blower fan switch that had taken to only working on speeds 1 and 4.
Initially I replaced the resistor pack as symptoms indicated it was that, but made no difference so switch replacement it was.
£19.99 off ebay.
Bit of a fiddly job but all done in under an hour and now blowing nicely on all speeds (y)
Just need some warm weather now to get the air con on.

Not today, strictly speaking, but recently I devised a satellite receiver anti-damage early warning sensor for about 10p.

Basically it's 4 cable ties attached to the roof rack, so if I'm manouevering into a shaded pitch with overhanging branches my other half can scream STOPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!! if she sees them touch anything they shouldn't. We can't see the receiver from the ground but we can see the cable ties.

Sorted out the bike front wheel..
A spoke tore out of the hub a while back and my welding attempt to repair it failed when I rebuilt the wheel..
So new hub and spokes.. and reused the rim..
Finally sorted.:D

Relaced the spokes.

Tensioned and trued it all up... and hopefully it will be fine.

Nice one Andy. Looks a tucker job. Hope it works.

Fixed the window locking strip in Kitchen of my Hymer.
After ordering the kit from Travelworld and Brownhills and always getting the wrong kit ( different latchs and length wrong), Brownhills said they can get the bare strip, this arrived just before Christmas so today I removed the old split one and did the cut-outs for catch's all sorted and got a refund from Brownhills for £38, which is the difference between the kit and the plane strip.:)

Keep an eye on your Hook-up plug!!

Needed LPG so yesterday I went to remove plug at moho end (after turning off at other end first).. Only to find the plug HOT and STUCK!!!

After some “persuasion” I got it free...

The live terminal was the issue... it could have come loose... but I couldn’t free the wire - as the retaining screw was welded to the plastic ...

So I cut through cable about 2 inches back from plug and fitted a new one.

Plug is now as cool as a cucumber.

Worth a “feel” every now and then - when one’s... faffing around the moho.

I tried that, but got a slap across the chops!

@Fletton please check the condition of the mating pin and the connection behind the motorhome inlet connector (that one is the plug, what you photographed was the socket) - sorry for being pedantic.

The heat produced by the socket will have conducted through to the plug, so just for safety's sake, it is worth a check.

I've had this happen with a couple of leads. In each case it was inadequate tightening of the terminal screws that grip the wire. Now I check and tighten the terminals of any new hook-up cable - I haven't come across one that was properly terminated yet. Dennis is right too - even if the pin/tube contact is OK heat transfer may have damaged the connection inside the van.

How many things have I fixed since this thread started?

Over the weekend I fixed, sort of, my son's lawnmower which we bought for him a couple of years ago. "It won't start and the self drive doesn't work". So we brought it home in the dark and first thing I noticed next day was the air filter and cover missing, yet to find a replacement but used a spare filter cut to shape and held in with ties at the moment, then taking off the box cover surrounding the drive belt I pulled out a mass of dried grass which contained a dead mouse. The cover had two of the three bolts missing which probably explains why the squatters moved in so I cut a couple of new threads to match the bolts I had and that was secured. Then used my neighbour's "secret" method (he claims) of starting a reluctant engine involving a socket on an electric drill to turn the crankshaft nut and hey presto lawnmower working. A few other covers and bits glued and screwed into place and one lawn mower up and running.

While we were at his place picking up the mower originally he mentioned the Karcher we'd bought him for Christmas wasn't working. "I read something about leaving it out in the frost, so I hope it hasn't frozen". He plugged it in and turned it on, nothing. I suggested he might try pulling the trigger as my old washer turns off after a while. Pulls trigger and motor bursts into life whereupon he spends the next hour finishing off the patio that got abandoned last month.

Dads can fix anything.

You are quite right... @Dare_Devil_Dennis ... tis the socket..

I have had a regular “feel” today... (@icantremember - without a slap...) and it’s stoney cold...

But I will whip it off and give it the once over - just to be sure (y) as it’s sited in the service locker and easily accessible.

Not exactly a difficult fix. Two new wiper blades.

Although our m/h is less than three months old it must have been stood around as the rubber had hardened. I had to do the same “fix” on our previous m/h too.

just a few but many jobs can be done by just following the instructions in a owners manual or a workshop manual.
even on the packet or tin.
so many are just common-sense

Damn, you've just given away the secret of my career! I have spent a lifetime of earning money by just reading the manuals that my customers ignored.

Bored and the wife has a cold so tinkering.

Had the same on ours I think its probably always been dodgy but using a 2kw heater plus water heater on electric showed up the fault. Must check inside as the others have said the pin it connects onto showed obvious signs of getting hot.

Just installed a permanent trickle charger into the van. so I can now keep the main battery on charge while on mains. well that's the idea.
