what did you fix today

Finally moved the path over by 3feet to give a bit more room on the driveway. No more 'kerdunk kerdunk' from Mr SB driving over the bottom few slabs. Those 3'x2' concrete slabs are the work of the devil though - doubt I'll be able to move tomorrow! Now for a well earned drink I think :wine:

Finally finished welding a 27 year old Autosleeper back together plus a wheel bearing, two rear wheel cylinders, six brake pipes, four brake hoses, new brake fluid, new exhaust and a couple of minor fixes to get her a new MOT so that her owners can enjoy a safe motorhome experience.

Fixed a bit of WiFi for now.

We are on a 6 week tour tour Germany and Czech Republic with no problems so feeling pretty smug, OOPS spoke too soon, yesterday 240 volts failed, so swapped post and cursed campsite but still not working, checked inverter and that wouldn't work either, running but no power in van.
Eventually found the the incoming power tails into the trip had both burned as they must have been loose, this was not a factory connection but an aftermarket fit of the original inverter and change over. Cut tails and refitted and all worked, well until our next stop and only the bedroom sockets worked, a bit more messing about and I found a plug I had not clicked back home properly so fingers crossed all working.

I've fitted a DIY fridge cooling fan using an old computer component and a cable running from the spare terminal on the solar charge controller. I found the least noisy option was to stick the fan to the vent with sealant to minimise vibration. All I have to do now is wait 12 months to test it properly.

A couple of days ago now not had any internet.

Fridge problems the day before we sail to Greece, warning buzzer going off and fault light on, it wasn't lighting on gas. Where the wire joins the igniter the insulation had burnt away, think is was arcing out to the metalwork. Temporary fix, an additional cable tie holding the wire to the gas pipe so that the uninsulated part had an air gap all round it, still working OK next morning.

Will probably do a perminant repair myself with silicon tape when we get home although still under warranty can't be bother to get a Dometic engineer bodger out to it.

Still working on Thursday evening after arriving in Greece.

Finished off the nursery for my daughter who will shortly be having a baby and collected a lovely S/H mint condition John Lewis cot for us to use as grandparents bought on Ebay

Not fixed but had fixed ( by Peugeot) a new instrument cluster for the van. The old one had a few warning lights that started glowing. Apparently a common Fiat / Peugeot fault

Oh, and fixed up an old chicken house and just collected a dozen new point of lay chickens.
Eggs a plenty in a couple of weeks.......

a length of heatshrink sleeving would be longer lasting than tape

Bloody fridge again, found some self amalgamating tape in my bits box seems to have done the job appears to be reasonably heat resistant and holding up so far, it better only 3 or 4 Dometic agents in whole of Greece.
Now bleeding water pump has died, took longer to empty everything out of the garage to get the spare pump out of the underfloor storage area in there then reload it than to change the pump.

Hi Lenny
Adventures indeed! Can you let which pump/brand etc did you carry as a spare?
Thanks
Nick

It was a Reich twin pump same as original fit. There are two types one with one without non return valve make sure you get the right type for your van.

The Elektroblock cut out this morning due to low volts, one of the Banner AGM batteries is going down under load and dragging the other one down with it. taken the offending one out of circuit.
Hope we can last on one battery, Bad Walsee is on the way home should be able to get them changed as they are only 18 months old if not I'll get a couple locally and take the bill to Hymer, they are very good with things like that, had cash before for an invoice I've given them.

@Allanm , I had the same problem a couple of months back in my 2 year old van and the instrument cluster was replaced under warranty. Mine was showing warning lights when ever the cruise control was switched on! I was also told it was a common fault.

My mates Carthago has same problem, new cluster on order. My Hymer the door locking light is on dim (don't even have central locking) will get it sorted when we get back.

When I picked the van up, the mechanic told me they had another motorhome in the day before for the same problem.

Today (actually yesterday) Colin fixed my bike the van step and the van heating.

After being disappointed with the pathetic blow on the blow air heating in the new van, but the weather not being cold enough to make us investigate, he finally took a look and it was simply a join in the air pipe that had come adrift just after the first vent - Happy days, a cost free fix for once.

Replaced the overcab opening window that has been sealed off for over a year with a new window picked up whilst in the UK.Just leaves about 18 jobs on the list.:D

Not fixed anything but I did fish out the end of a hose pipe from another motorhomers water tank for him .

Must start on my own jobs before winter trip.

Paul

Replaced controller for the step ..... no more steps to lug about .... just push the button. Not easy where Laika like to place control boxes .... someone must have bendy twisty screwdrivers they use in conjunction with mirrors to see what they are doing
