Just starting out!
Off on a shopping trip for the MH later today. On the list is a water pipe; what sort of length should I go for?

On sites that have electric hook-up, do they generally have an adjacent water source?

Also, what about tap fittings? We will be based in the Netherlands but very close to Germany and Belgium. Our intention is to ‘do’ as much of Europe as we are able whilst we are here. Do we need a whole load of tap fittings for this?

I do not use food grade.

It has been scientifically proven that using a garden hose rather than food grade hose has two further detrimental effects.

Firstly the contaminants involved settle in your clean water tank and when they degrade they give off a dangerous unknown gas that will incapacitate you, thus enabling you to be robbed.

And secondly when these contaminants get into your grey waste tank they start to rot the rubber seals of the drain tap, thus leading to a slow loss of grey water out of the tank. This usually occurs while you are driving.

There .................... that should keep the popcorn coming.................... :D2

all the proof you will ever need..:D2

this post proves that drinking water from a garden hose addles your brain..:restmycase:

Agreed, but who does flush it out. I have waited in many a queue for water over the years and everbody I've seen just shoves their hose in their filler point and turns the tap on.
I always flush it - water left in the hose is stale and tainted. I've never been in a queue of more than one person waiting.

Yes it does, and I did warn you, so it's all your fault ..........................
My mains water supply must be made out of garden hose 'cause most nights I add water to my whisky my legs seem to fall off!:beerchug:

being T-total and a non-smoker it amuses me to think that many people would worry about such topics and yet still choose to poison themselves with expensive drinks and cigarettes....

i'll stick to my diet of phthalates and bacteria and probably get run over by a Swiss bus that was unfashionably late

Yeah not very long though.
Given that you can drink your own urine emediatly after it exiting your body with no ill affects :)
I don't quite see the relevance but hey, this is a fun forum:D

I have it on good authority that D.T. drinks from his hose on a regular basis. Further proof that it addles your brain:)

If you leave the urine long enough “stuff” proliferates in it and you wouldn’t want to drink it :)

Similar to water in a clear container left out in the sun :)

The last place we lived only had mains water arrive in early 60’s and the main pipe is asbestos, and we drank water from that source for 17 years so how will that effect us.
Oh and I have used a yellow garden hose and drink water supplied from tank for 17 years.
So what with the Asbestos from the mains garden hose and lead pipe work in houses we lived in for 31 years I am surprised we are still here at 71 and 76

asbestos cement pipes haven't been found to cause illnesses.. http://dwi.defra.gov.uk/research/completed-research/reports/DWI70_2_135_asbestos cement pipes.pdf

Asbestos Cement Drinking Water Pipes and Possible Health Risks Summary Statement
The possibility of health effects from asbestos fibres in drinking water has been widely studied but with little evidence for any concern.

Lead pipe..

many lead pipes will have a coating of limescale that prevents the lead leaching into the water, but they have to be replaced, ..our water company has a lead pipe replacement program..

but if soft water.. different story
in Scotland where the water is very soft there was a lot of concern.. still is today in some places .. if you had lead poisoning you would certainly know about it https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/lead-poisoning

years ago people didn't know about the potential health problems with lead pipes or indeed PVC garden hose.. but we do now.. so no one has to say there weren't aware.

If the X hose is a stretchable type then it won't be made from PVC but more likely latex i would think, not sure about latex and food applications.

That's dangerous info it could double the length of this thread.

Don’t forget the cast iron tank up in the loft with the dead mouse/pigeon/spiders/bugs in that we all drank out off in the bathroom...

Yes a large galvanised tank in roof was still there when we moved in 1985 but not in use then. But the borehole for old water supply was only 30ft away from the brick lined hole that was still in use as a septic tank..

Don't forget a watering can during your trip. We have a food grade hose pipe but find that we tend to use the watering more often than not!

Worth thinking about.
+1. Looking back in our log we use, on average, a 3 core usable on a roll hosepipe once per 8 watering can fill ups.

Sorry but I need to hijack this thread (you might need to fetch more popcorn).
Log? You keep a log? Is this a usual thing to do? We keep one on the boat, obviously, but hadn’t thought to keep one for the MH. Good idea though
Food for thought re hoses, she said quickly reverting to the thread, as we are about to pick up our first MH. We have hoses on the boat (no idea what grade) and fill up from whatever supply we can access, but as it’s kept in Greece we drink bottled water, not water from the tanks.

Keeping on topic re drinking water from the tank, I drink from our MH tank, as I did from the boat tank in Greece for 30 years - there is some beautiful water in most of Greece - straight of the mountains, not recycled umpteen times. I usually avoided filling up where it was delivered by tanker, except when I knew where it came from, e.g. Hydra which was supplied daily from the Peloponese hills near Trizinia.

[Off topic] I kept a log on the boat and have continued for 9 yyears in the MH.
