UK availability of LPG

Found it very hit and miss locating a garage still supplying LPG and always try to phone ahead to any listed on LPG locating apps or websites. However, as mentioned above, some caravan/motorhome dealers have started stocking it. One in Exeter, Marquis Leisure, had a tank installed a tank purely for leisure vehicles. We paid 99.9ppl so not the cheapest, but convenient.

You missed out the hitting the buildings or crashing into either our vehicles or the staff cars despite being screamed at to stop ⚠️😂
Then they want a quick gas test as they may have a leak , could you just look at it ?
I feel your pain!

Two threads running here, one people bemoaning the demise of LPG and one from two people explaining why lol

I filled at Morry's in Ipswich the other day, guy on the otherside had a proper refillable bottle loose behind his sliding door, attendant comes over and won't let him fill it. She says only safefill bottles are allowed.

I tend to tell any callers asking the price of LPG now “ £750.00 a litre ,” I enjoy that moment of silence as they try to compute what they heard 😂
But maybe we should just double the price for phone customers 😂
We have seriously considered a minimum charge.

Not surprised the attendant wouldn't know the difference between a refillable and an exchange bottle.

I have found the apps unreliable in the sense that they say lots of places have gas, but you turn up and they took it out maybe two years ago, with one saying the £8500 to recertify their tanks wasn't worth it. Now when I use the apps I always phone the garage first to ensure they do, indeed, still sell LPG on the pump. Also, I'm confused that some Morrisons sell it, but others have taken it out. I don't think they are franchises or independents (like some garages), but maybe they are. But it's defo harder to find now than it used to be. We live in Chester and have to go to Deeside or Wales to get ours locally.
Morrisons is now owned by Clayton Dubilier and Rice, they stated that their intention is to remove all LPG from Morrisons and replace with electric points for cars.

Oh I 100% agree, I would have a minimum charge of £15 if we reinstated selling to the public, as we subsidised the sale with staff’s wages

The bottle was clearly labelled as refillable, lady just said we have instructions safefill only.

No such statement has yet been made, everyone saw the announcement by MFG which is another company owned by Clayton Dubilier and Rice and made assumptions it applied to Morrisons as well.
Plenty of other people also incorrectly assumed that the MFG statement applied to all LPG pumps ,there were some crazy sensationalist articles announcing the end of LPG, even in some of the respected press .
Truth is that while MFG do indeed operate over 900 forecourts they actually only had 57 LPG pumps , so pretty insignificant.
To be honest I would be extremely happy if Morrisons do stop LPG, it might stop the constant, “we can get it at Morrisons cheaper “
Funny how we have not once run out of LPG in fact not even got close to running out .
The cynic in me might be inclined to think that perhaps as we pay the daily price and aren’t on a fixed reduced contract price , our suppliers have a chance of making a profit 😂

From what I have read, most uk filling stations will phase out LPG by 2024. It’s already getting hard to find places that sell LPG particularly in Scotland. My van’s heating /hot water, hob and fridge are all gas fed by an underslung tank . We haven’t ever bothered with hook up as don’t need it.

If anyone is else is in this situation, what will you do? Are there alternatives that can use the tank? Or do I need to somehow move to bottled gas?
There is an app called my lpg eu which gives you a map of all the places that sell it and the price. I couldn’t find 1 anywhere till I heard about this app and it turned out there is 1 7 miles away that’s brilliant.
Hope it helps

I have 3 lpg stations locally to me and only have a refillable tank for Europe where it is plentiful and will continue long enough for my motor homing days…

It’ll soon come back when they realise ev cars don’t work and you can’t park it anywhere as the multi-storey car parks can’t take the weight and the environmentalists ban lithium mining…😎

It was Gordon Brown who signed tye death warrant for LPG powered vehicles in 2001 with his ridiculously misinformed decision to encourage dirty diesel.
I have had probably 40 diesel vehicles and absolutely detest them , I can’t stand the horrible noise they make especially the Fiat engines that have a nasty whine too 😂
I have always loved big petrol engines and now we have an EV it’s fantastic.
I bought my first brand new diesel engined Toyota Hilux at age 20 , hated it then and haven’t changed my mind in 40 years 😂

Toyota actually rebuilt the engine when it was under a year old 🤔
It went wrong again and they got me to drive it to them knowing that I would totally destroy the engine as otherwise Toyota would have rebuilt it again ⚠️
The noise was insane but I eventually managed to get the Conrod out the side of the block but still got to the dealership 😂
New crated engine fitted on this occasion 👍

Reminds me to order a new underslung cylinder

Did you not read that no LPG will be available after 2024?

Yes we do a FUN discount but this month we have a promotion on the website so that’s the same 10 percent discount, unfortunately we can’t do a double discount 😂
Give us a call on Tuesday if you require any help 👍

The RV is petrol/LPG, so I am always looking for places to fill that I can get into.
Hopefully the coop just off the A417 at Cirencester has gas when I drive past tomorrow.

Hi Libs, not sure where you are in Scotland but Morrisons Supermarket is my goto for LPG. I have a dual bottle Gaslow in my Burstner so it’s only a few fills a year needed for us, we had an underslung on our previous Autosleeper

We are in West Lothian and have Morrisons at Livingston and Bathgate both with steady supply of LPG, I’ve also filled in their Falkirk store.

Here’s a list of Morrisons stations - https://www.safefill.co.uk/safefill-refilling-partners-morrisons.html

The more we worry fills ups are becoming scarce the greater the temptation for 'top ups' which are really a bit of a waste of everyones time. Tricky but regards long drives and phone calls, I guess it's our responsibility to help keep the apps up to date rather than just complaining. I will make a resolution to do so in future.

We are lucky, we have two lpg service points within a mile or so.. jacksons of Old Arley and Knights of Old Arley.
