Timing/Cam Belt Replacement - Cost and Location

Getting mine done next month at Reliance in Chichester.

Cant remember what the estimate was, but didn't really have a choice as the only other place near me said they couldn't do the job as when they put my reg into their system no vehicle details came back !!! This is a well respected garage and my A Class is on a 2018 Fiat Ducato (maybe they just didn't like me, although they recently did my mot and air con regas and always have motohomes in when we visit).

Not worried though, as have used Reliance many times and have only ever had excellent service. Their customer service (Chris and Becky) should be an example to all companies on how to deal with customers.

I’ve got mine booked in for April with them. We’re you happy with their service and did they get it done in the day without having to leave it there, if you don’t mind me asking?
Sorry not had mine done yet the price is the quote . I’m having it done in one day in May though

I did not know Reliance did vehicle work rather than habitation type of work? They are a great firm but are they recognised by Fiat for such work?

I'm booked in at

Corve Bridge Garage
Bromfield Road
Ludlow
SY8 1DN

Water pump
Cambelt
Major with all filters

For £1075 in a few weeks

Southampton ... Adams Morey, The Causeway, Redbridge, Southampton. (Basically off the roundabout at the bottom of the M271)

Cambelt Kit £184.51, water pump £43.91. Fitting £416 and £40 respectvely. This was done with other work, that being removing and refitting seized-on rear brake drums, a low mileage service and mechanical inspection. Total bill £1432 inc VAT.

Labour charges seem to be £80/hr so would be interested to hear if 5.2 hrs is right for the cambelt - it seems a lot to me, particularly as they've charged another hour to clean of the oil from what I'm hoping is an overfilled engine rather than a leak.

Can I ask, when Funsters Post's, include the water-pump, are you certain that the complete Water-pump is changed or is it something less?

The reason I ask, is that my 2007 120bhp 65,000ml Ducato X250, has never had its changed?

When I bought it second-hand in 2017, after doing some checks and replacement of brakes, antifreeze, oils, filters etc. I took it to have its MOT and check up at a Fiat Professional Workshop. (just incase I had missed something on this strange, too me, vehicle.)

I asked about the changing the water-pump as I was not sure IF the water-pump had been changed as there was no record amongst the numerous other bills passed on to me from the previous owner.

I was told, by the very competent 'Fiat Professional' mechanic ( my past engineering qualifications, allowed me, in this garage, at that time, but not later, to closely observe, assist and ask questions)
He told me, that unless there was an obvious fault, it was not needed as it was designed to last the life of the engine and might cause more problems with leaking joints etc. after it had been disturbed.

(It would also put a couple of Hundred ponds on the timing belt bill.) ?

I'd like to try and build a dataset of mechanics who you guys trust to change a cambelt.

If you've had this done recently, it would be great to know the price and location, for example

Smiths Garage, Lincoln. £700 (included new water pump)

I had mine done on same moho at Cavendish Autos Hazel Grove Stockport. Not a million miles from you if you still require the work doing.

Just had interim service, cambelt and water pump replacement at Holmes Garage in Lostock Hall near Todds for £636.59. Very happy with service, especially as they found potential problem with water pump.
What pleased me is that not only is one of the owners a motorhomer but they do a lot of work for Todds (who recommended them) so they are used to working on motorhomes. As I collected mine there was an Autotrail up on the ramp being worked on.

Steve Cooze at Swansea area. Recommended to me by another garage as they couldn’t accommodate my vehicle, a Fiat Benimar, so just had a quote of £630 for a complete change of belts and water pump. Being done on the 21st of August.

My usual local garage quoted me £1200 for the same job. Will give them a miss in future.

Just booked my Hymer A Class 2017 Fiat Ducato 2.3 into Adams Morley, Portsmouth and quoted £1200 for cam belt change.
I was informed that they would check the water pump but they do not routinely change them when changing a cam belt.
