Adams Morey Portsmouth C class not £806 but £738 Belt kit and all auxillary belts (no water pump) and no software update.

Think I will start offering this service.Seem like money for old belts
There must be some high discount for bulk buying parts

I had my cambelt and water pump replaced this week at the local commercials garage I always use for the big jobs, total cost was approx £680 which I was happy with.
BUT.......... I asked them to leave the old belt in the cab, on checking it there is the start of a split right across the belt and the first layer of chords are cut. I was very lucky. The belt is 6 years old and done about 5,000 miles. My advice, having already had one belt snap previously, is never leave it too long, its a large cost but well worth it. I'll try and upload a photo of the old belt later.

If that's the only one, could that not be where it's joined?
No, you can see the chords are cut. They shouldn't be visible like that. My belt that snapped had no visible join, just a clean cut/snap like the photo.

Is there a makers name on the belt ? That doesn't look good for 5,000 miles use.
Its a good one, Gates Powergrip. The point is its not the mileage its the age thats the risk.

I'm wondering, do you use your vehicle 12months a year or is it stored over winter?

The reason I ask is, I use my van all year, although in winter it's for much shorter trips away, and the last belt change I did after 6yrs, the belt looked as if it had been recently fitted and, in my professional opinion, would have gone on much longer
(I do not have A/C or smart alternator but they should not make any difference I don't think?)

Sorry for the thread drift, I will ask no more questions.

Use it year round but usually 2 hour drives plus one 1,000 miler in summer.

Just booked into Chelston motorhomes for end of March (earliest) they say they don’t change the water pump as it’s not necessary (Fiat approved) ?

Depending on your model and obvious ware and tare,It’s not always necessary but the official fiat kit includes a water pump for the x250 2.3

Not the ones I have picked up for my X250 from my local Professional Fiat workshop, they also say it is unnecessary (unless there is an obvious problem) and MAY cause more problems than solves with leaks etc? But what do they know?
(although I'm nearly convinced when they could have made more profit from the kit with the water pump especially as they were not fitting them?)

Mine is an A Class full price was £573 last June, I paid a £100 less than that as I'd had bit of agro with their service receptionist previously ( he is long gone).
Since then they have been taken over and labour rate has gone from £75 + vat to £115 +vat.
So price difference sounds about right for the increased labour rate.
Hello Lenny - what exactly is a “full” cam belt change kit?

Cam belt, water pump and seals appears to be the minimum - but I also see Auxilliary Belt & Aircon Belt mentioned.

When I get a cam belt change done for the first time, I’d like to go belt & braces (😁) and change everything so I know my baseline.

Do I need to specify Auxilliary & Aircon, or are they included as standard?

2.3l ducato. Cars R Us, Warrington. £350, cam belt only as only done 23000 miles. Not registered for VAT. Used him for 10 years.

Spitfire Garage Southampton Mot and timing belt £539.19 Ducato A Class.

I'd like to try and build a dataset of mechanics who you guys trust to change a cambelt.

If you've had this done recently, it would be great to know the price and location, for example

Smiths Garage, Lincoln. £700 (included new water pump)

Thanks (y)
Hi Jim - from your knowledge or research - is it worth the extra to specify OEM parts for Ducato cam belt replacement - or are OE equivalent considered to be OK & if so what brand of cheaper equivalents are the best?

Hi z Peter the belts are extra and you need to ask for them

Ring Road Garage - BUCKINGHAM (I haven’t used them, just sourced this quote):

“As I don’t have a chassis number I wont be able to get quotes for parts from Fiat themselves but the quote I have got is for OE equivalent.
Please see below: -“

  • AUXILLARY BELT – 20.60+

I've been on a website Broken Link Removed looking at timing belt kits. I put in the reg number and vehicle details and it's come up with about a dozen different manufacturers and all with 25% discount.
Which would I choose, who are the go to companies? I had Gates in mind but they turned out to be amongst the cheaper ones. I'm confused :whistle2:

I don't know? I was there in the summer having the work done. I know Becks have stopped trading a while back though?

It would also help if the Make and Model were stated, I know all Fiat, Citroen, Peugeot, also some Ford engines all come out of Sevel , but some have variations I believe, may help when purchasing a Vehicle, I,m fortunate my Van has a timing chain.
