Those happy days, YouTube.

Have you watched any canal boaters on YouTube ? I see that the couple of blokes on foxes afloat are back on dry land now. They are on about having a small holding in Scotland, I guess it shows that the nomadic lifestyle is not for everyone.
I think the Foxes have discovered good earnings from their channel - and good on them, they are very good, all researched and prepared. However, having covered nearly all, if not all the canals they could, I imagine they have thought of a new way to make enjoyable videos and have a decent lifestyle. They like the simple life and quiet places.
Finding good places to stop, whether in a narrow boat or motorhome/van on a long term basis especially in uk, cannot be fun.

Did you see Liam the terribles comment in his last blog on this van.
" Next week we are starting on a proper conversion not a thing like this one"
And in last night's ,Liam said the back doors are rediculas, but it was him that bought a van with huge back doors, it comes with buying a removal van.
Yes, I remember him suggesting it to Liam and Janine. I think they are very naïve.

The luton overhead is not much wider than the cab so I don’t see how the transverse bed is going to be any better! I know from experience that you need a bed that is around 1ft longer than you are tall, to be able to stretch out toes and not have head jammed against the wall. If the bed not that long then at least be able to stretch now and then by sticking feet out over the end.
No more sitting up in bed watching TV which is what they used to do,
All that weight on top, for what? I cannot see them sitting up there on chairs as Liam the Terrible suggested. How horrible will it be to drive?

I feel for them as they do seem to be a nice couple.

You are dead right about the bed ,we haven't seen it with a mattress on yet, as the person at the front of the van has to get over the other to get out, will there even be room.
Should have been the other way around so that one can slide out without disturbing the other.
All things that havnt been thought through.

Where in fact is the TV? I haven't noticed it.

They are young, don’t need to keep getting up for a wee. However not much headroom up there for possible other nighttime activities :mm::giggler:

There is a lot of stuff to go in it yet. When they said that the decking would take it overweight, but then still went ahead with it, I was really worried. Just painting the inside will add more weight, it seems claustrophobic at the moment when door closed. Then a mattress and their stuff.
I guess the TV will have to be one side or other, but then they only have those little bench seats to sit on so will be behind one head.
I am watching it just because I need to see how it pans out, from behind the sofa peeping through my fingers!

We enjoy foxes afloat, they do put some effort into it. We are not so keen on the live ones, it just seems saying hello to everyone.

YouTube is free you don't have to subscribe.

I can't understand why they want or what use a "sundeck" on the roof will be. The access through the sun roof seems awkward and the amount of room on the deck tiny. An accident waiting to happen? 😱
As well as throwing more unnecessary weight high up on the roof. I don’t see her doing much sunbathing up there.

Sorry to go on about this but there is no mention of taxing it ,has it been changed to campervan or is it still a box van or what.
So many things just don't ring true and must say it intrigues me.
I don’t think they have even thought about that! They come across as very naive, or as my old man would say, “Nice but dim”.

When I go to YouTube I can never see these buttons they all go on about, all I get is a full picture on the screen, I look at loads of channels and never been able to subscribe to any of them as I never get the button they point to.
You can subscribe on a TV . You need to search for their channel then tab over to the logo with their channel after hitting ok there should be a subscribe button top right.

Saw a utube channel the other day that worked out the earnings maths for utuber with 250k followers it’s around £2000 per month with sales of merchandise and the other payments they get. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️
there are many ‘Photographers’ out there on utube, making money showing how they take mediocre photos just shows it takes all sorts, good luck to them. They will be an audience for watching paint dry I expect 🥴

In a way it’s looking at other peoples lives, curtain twitching from the arm chair. Years ago didn’t they pay to go look at people in the asylums ?

I think it is surprisingly hard to reach those sort of numbers, and to continue to keep them by putting out good content. There are a lot of them competing for our attention. These Happy Days have 38k subscribers and have had to work hard to get them up to that. It is about .005p per view from ad revenue - if people watch the ads rather than skip them.

Who watches the ads ? I always skip as quickly as possible and didn't realize that affects their earnings, but I'll still skip, sorry ☹️
In fact I often don't even watch the whole vlog, especially travel trolls, about 3 minutes is usually enough realize it's more of the same content.

I found a channel the other day Alan something. He is a mechanic servicing and repair a lot of taxis. He had a mondeo with 270,000 miles on the clock with a broken timing chain that he had to fix. That mondeo must of had a hard life, he said that the earliest chain he had seen broken was a 220,000 miles, but they always change the oil at 15,000 miles

Travel trolls just get on my nerves, sometimes have a look to see if it's any better, but no they are still their taking the freebies, different pair altogether than Liam and Janine who you just want to succeed but have doubts about.

I love the Indian mechanics on there ,they can mend anything.

Some rather interesting updates tonight from both Liams
Go on then, spill the beans, we have been watching them at hom but as we are now away I'm not wasting good data on them lol, have they published how much it has cost them yet? The workmanship of the joiner doing the kitchen was actually quite good, as for the rest of the work .....

I still think it's a stupid choice of base vehicle..... Why they didn't just buy an older Hymer or Hobby or equivalent motorhome (based on their attempt to keep costs low)

It's all kicking off sooner than even we expected, they have put a video up about all that is wrong with the van, and although not saying as much ,sort of blaming Liam the terrible, he has a put a live video out saying it's not his fault, doesn't look like it's ending well for any of them.
Janine showed up with what she said was a toilet but it was in a package that looked like an A4 envelope, but we never saw it again.
Also according to Liam the t, they have had all the electrics and fans and stuff given to them but no mention of it in their video.
It's a good watch if you have a spare hour.

In fact I started this thread admiring this couple but if half of what Liam the terrible says in his video is true, I'm afraid they now come over like all the others on YouTube, just out for what they can get.
Shame.

Liam and Janine have followers so they have to give an update. Most of what the said was just stating facts about the problems with the van even saying you have to expect teething problems. What annoys me is the way he controls everything and she seems to have no say. Neither of them seem very practical which for me if you want to be a van lifer you need to have a bit of savvy. Liam the terrible took a lot of it badly and made matters worse. I don’t see them ever taking the van back there now. I think the honeymoon is over. They should never have picked up a build like that and driven it 3 hours away. Interesting to hear Liam the terrible saying he doesn’t do gas, I’m pretty sure I saw him doing gas in another build in another video.

This is just one of the comments on their blog thingy

I didn't think it would end well, the truth is I still believe it's the wrong base vehicle and was never going to work out well whatever was done to it and whoever did it. I think the couple were trying to be too clever in their pursuit for a 'stealth camper'. For the type of off grid living they do, there are too many height barriers in the places they like to go.

Did they reveal total cost yet? LtT spent 6/7 weeks, so I bet that wasn't cheap and there were a couple of others spending at least a week or two doing odd jobs, plus storage overheads at the unit they were working from.

And to do van of that size with no toilet and a bed that doesn't seem to have been thought through just doesn't make sense.
