Very depressing..
We are thinking of selling our IH Motorhome… it’s simply time to move on, but we have been told that, although prices went up after covid, they are now dropping like a stone. The market is weak because the future is so uncertain
What does everyone think? Is this your experience?

Looks good. Have you managed to test the range under different conditions?

I for instance sometimes have to do a c. 180 mile round trip in a day, mostly on motorways so I would potentially have a range anxiety issue.
I think you would need a top up to make it comfortable. First long trip this weekend looking at a stop at Gregg's in Gretna and using the Tesla charger.

I think prices are just becoming more realistic. They were stupid money, people trying to sell the same year and model of mine for the same price I got it from a dealer 5 years ago, that’s nuts!

The electric and ICE argument is interesting.

It won’t be long before electric vans are common, the infrastructure is already in place and more being added all the time. Particularly around cities.

We have just got Lucy an electric car, it was 3 years old and a few grand cheaper than the ICE version. No road tax and the electric to fill the battery for the 190 mile range costs £3.50. A fast charger at a services will get the battery to 80% in 20 minutes, though will cost you the equivalent of diesel for the convenience.

In short, we love it and wish we had got one years ago. It replaced a Diesel BMW mini that depreciated 3.5k a year, it had multiple issues due to the complex emissions systems it required by law. Look at the amount of problems people have on here with adblue and the like, that’s purely down to the fact they need to keep emissions low. No problem with electric vehicles.

We have had an electric Ambulance for years at work, no issues, they just need to solve the battery capacity and charge times.

My point is, I won’t be buying a new Motorhome for some years now, I am waiting for them to solve the electric problems like they have nearly done with cars. I don’t want a complex emissions system, it’s bad enough on my 2013 Ducato.

The constant horror stories of electric vehicles have helped me get a great deal on the current car, having tried it, I won’t be going back to an ICE. If they could carry on so I get a good deal on an electric motorhome in 10 years, that would be great. 😊
No VED now, but will be in 2025. Current rate is £190 but likely to change in the Budget. Also EVs over £40k list price will pay the premium rate for the first 5 years.

At 3p a mile, I can put up with the VED.

Why's it called Lucy? Those horror stories got us a good deal on ours

260 mile range £22 k brand new although pre registered ( the first " owner" had it 4 days!
Did you learn why the 1st owner sold after only 4 days's or was it the pre registered dealer that had it for those 4 days.?

They were very clear when we phoned
Quite common apparently as they have quotas to meet and if they haven’t, registering and marking them as sold hits the target.
They were very clear on the arrangement when I phoned up after seeing the advert in autotrader. They evidently bought and pre registered 43 of them

I wonder if a problem with that is that you’d miss out on opportunity to register for the Fiat extended 5 year warranty which as I understand it needs to happen within 2 weeks of registration. Maybe it is based on sale date instead.

It was a car not a motorhome!

Date of registration and I think it has to be purchased by the first owner too. I was told the strict rules are because Fiat is not registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the guarantee has to be seen as part of a new vehicle sale not as a separate financial product. Financial products are regulated by the FCA and can only be sold by registered organisations.

We are only at the tip of this green bo..... Just wait till it starts steamrollering.
...and people wake up to the huge cost.

Had to laugh at that morons announcement of a carbon capture facility for millions when he could have planted about £6000 of trees instead.

The mad green political lobby, creating wealth for them and their cronies at the expense of the rest of us.

How many trees does that buy?

The big big thing about today's oil powered motorhomes is that in ten years time they are all going to be worthless.
They can't do anything but go down to scrap price.
Very few people are buying EV cars at the moment, that's why nearly 10000 people have been laid off by car manufacturers at the moment, some may even go under. there is no rules regarding Motorhomes going EV at the moment or in 10 years time.so diesel Motorhomes will still be made so thy will not go down to scrap value. only EV vehicles that have no second hand value will go down to scrap as thy get older :ROFLMAO:

Weren't the figures for sales of EVs surprisingly large at the end of last year?

20% increase year on year in ev sales diesel and petrol both down.

EVs are terrible I had to visit a petrol station to check the tyre pressures first visit in 2 months. I plugged it in the night before it's so difficult you plug it in when you go to bed and it's full when you get up.

Scarcity value and practicability will made Diesel MH much more valuable as EV MH will be too expensive , highly compromised for range , payload and useless off grid etc ... Thats already happening in Used car market , Its a clear trend .. and will
accelerate over next 6 years

Until the government decide to accelerate the trend through the tax system I guess.

Rachel Reeves needs tax income? Ed Miliband needs net zero? Car manufacturers need to sell EVs? The NHS needs funds?

How long before they decide to turn the tax screws further on fossil fuel prices?

Bad news in Holland for EVs all subsidies and grants for EVs removed from Jan 1st 2025 instant 24% price increase on already slow selling EVs in Holland .... Other EU countries also considering same move in next few months ..... as Brussels mulls moving ICE sales ban to 2040 leaving hapless UK as an outlier ...
USA not even taking EVs seriously , neither is Africa, ME, India, Latin America ,, and Europe is not really doing very well with them , the majority of consumers dont want them
Also all The Huge Chinese Electric car companies like BYD, HAVAL, MG ,GEELY also have lots of shiny Diesel and petrol models they can sell in Europe if they really wanted to .

Even the Chinese know that its not a forgone conclusion that EVs will take over , in order to be competetive even in China they need massive subsidies ...

So are prices dropping like stone ?
Not that I have noticed but dealers have a lot of stock and I don’t see much of it being sold.
I think they are hoping that there will be a mad rush in the spring but I think if they want to move stock they will need to start making some significant reductions. Our local Adria dealer had a number of new vans for sale reduced by £10k. They didn’t sell and they have now put the prices back up again!

On top of the 24 plate (and maybe the odd 23MY) vehicles they have to shift, they'll no doubt have pre-ordered 2025MY stock too.I suspect the heady days of the post covid madness have long since ended and a few firms will go bust

That will have an impact on lenders when a significant number of dealers start to go bust and somehow the unsold stock will have to be sold off quickly to recoup some of the stocking finance. That could easily turn into a crisis for the whole industry. Banks could pull the plug on otherwise solvent companies, to reduce their loan risk exposure to this sector.

This is my feeling too, the days of people retiring on good pensions are fading away and the cost of living squeeze means a lot less disposable income.

Add to that mortgages need taking out over much longer now housing is so expensive and reduces income later in life even more, and you end up with a lot less prospective buyers.

Once you add the ridiculous cost some places are charging to stay, it makes short breaks abroad by flying much more appealing. None of which help people sell expensive motorhomes. The only place I see doing well are the cheap DIY van conversions where people are on a budget but want the freedom.

From what I have seen still unrealistic prices at the dealers. Maybe they are hoping for a miracle. Still run if the mill motorhomes that are 10 years old for 40 plus grand.
