Van is packed and rearing to go, don't get onto the tunnel till the 19th though.

Just put up some more pics, this time they are of the bullfight in Chiclana. If you think you will find the pics upsetting then please do not view them.

We had a good day out, it was the first time that Bryan had been to a bullfight and I think it will be the last for both of us but as we are in Spain it seemed right to go and see it.

The best bit for me was when I got to meet the matadors and the second best was when one of the matadors split his pants!

Spanish Meet 2010 - Zabomba Night at La Cantina in Conil 22nd Dec.

Zabomba - never heard of it before? its a kind of terracota pot with a skin on top of it with a hole in the middle with a bamboo stick that has a wire loop on the top of it with flattened bottle tops. the player has to continually put water on the skin. It makes a sound a bit like a didgeridoo, they play it and sing, the other guys who were accompanying the main man had instruments, one had a ridged glass bottle and a fork, the other had a bell. Technology gone mad eh?

Anyway Bryan and I were going into Conil last Wednesday night to watch a christmas procession, we never got there. We walked into this bar and were entertained for about 3 hours by these musicians! I have uploaded some pics and invite you to have a look at them.

but as we are in Spain it seemed right to go and see it.

So I guess if you ever visit Iraq you'll have to see the odd adulteress stoned to death and a beheading or two.

When in Rome.

Perhaps my comment did sound flippant, it was not intended to, we went to the Bullfight to experience first hand what happens in one of the oldest controversial Spanish traditions. I'm glad we went but am not sure we would ever want to go again.

I don't see how that can be linked to Iraq, (fox hunting maybe...), however, I am hardly likely to visit Iraq so won't comment further, one in the family in Iraq was enough for me.

I don't see how that can be linked to Iraq, (fox hunting maybe...),

A bit extreme, I agree. But I see bullfighting as barbaric and stoning people to death barbaric. So I tossed that in for good measure.

This isn't The Dark Side so I'll shut up now.

Well, what a surprise, guess who just arrived :BigGrin::BigGrin:

Tatty !!!! I protest and the "TIN CAN" just happens to be a classic, original VELO SOLEX (purring like a Kipor)

...but the post is basically true... The Wagon has landed... is now plugged in and ready for the all night cricket commentary (again)

Just off visiting... a report on this "meet" will follow in due course...

JJ

No one seemed to want any of Santa's Pies so I have kept them....

My wives never bought me anything:cry::cry::cry:

Alway's said if you want anything you just buy it:RollEyes::RollEyes:

Bullfighting seems to be a remnant of Mithraism. Roman worship of the god Mithras is tangled up with Persian and Minoan gods. The myth of Mithras slaying the bull is a sort of midwinter life re-affirmation - the flow of blood from the bull symbolising the everflowing stream of life. Still bloody barbaric, though. Literally!

A few of us got together Christmas Morning in Mary and Derek's bungalow at Camping Pinar San Jose.

We went to the restaurant on New Years Eve, had a great meal and then enjoyed a few drinks with friends and brought the new year in twice. The first time in Spanish time and the second time in english time.

Spanish Aires

I am posting here because I'm guessing that anyone in Zahora or planning to go might be able to answer my queries.
We are looking to find an overnight a bit further on from Santander than Santillana towards Salamanca, travelling towards the end of February. Perhaps around Palencia?
Elsewhere on MF I have seen a reference to a free Aire there. Does anyone have more detail?
In the same posting, there was also a recommendation of an Aire (attached to a Sports complex) at Caceres, our next stop after Salamanca. Does anyone know of this?
Finally, does anyone have an opinion about 'All the Aires Spain and Portugal'? Is it still reasonably accurate and worth buying the current edition?
I hope I haven't used up my quota of questions in one go!

Don't know about Palencia - sorry - but I'm sure someone will be along who does know!:Smile:

We stayed at Camping Caceres next to the sports stadium. It's in the ACSI book.:thumb:

Haven't used "All the aires in Spain and Portugal" but if it's anything like the French one it won't be very comprehensive - should be called "A few of the aires.........".

'All the Aires Spain and Portugal' is like all the other books in publication....non are perfect...But if you have never been to France , Spain, Portugal, and until you are fully con-versant, or have been going for many years, or you just like to drift and takes what comes along, or wild camp......THEY ARE BETTER THAN NOTHING......we have about 10 different books (plus the book you mention) and we use the internet......and I re-new most every year and for what they cost we have had our money worth.......but we go out 6 to 7 months + every year...if you are only going for two weeks and you have not been before just buy one book for France and one book for Spain, Portugal......it is not a lot of outlay........and when over here you will most likely meet people that will give you some good tips about.. Aires...Campsites that they can recommend.

Mel :thumb:...have a good holiday

Quota used up...shucks bad luck.

I hope I haven't used up my quota of questions in one go!

As the duty officer on allowed quota usage in one text it is my happy duty to have to inform you that your message was really good.

It is my sad duty to inform you that your last question about qota usage actually took you over the top of the quota usage.

Therefore I must inform you that there will be a five minute penalty before you can ask any more questions.

The five minute penalty is now up and it is my happy duty to inform you that you can ask questions again.

(You may receive a telephone call asking you what you thought of our service) Your feedback is important to us.
Thank you..have a nice day

omg

I tried living in my motorhome through the snow.....OMG....the heat loss is massive so that tells me also its gonna get baking in the summer.

Good news is the holding tank heaters work well the water coming out was lovely and warm.....till i realised that was the black tank id opened and there was another reason why it was warm.

Thats twice......I cant belive I did it twice.

Busy insulating....

Tony...we stopped at one in Palencia it is in all the Aires in Spain and Portugal....It was a large car park good, with lighting, a block of flats at one side, water and waste ,although the water was switched off due to the time of year and it was freezing, this was the start of February 2010, it says for large motorhomes....well Derek (smudger) who was with us, reversed his large Rv in (40' Winnebago with a 20' James trailer) Derek is a very good driver .....you was very close 2 mins walk into the town centre, looked very clean and up market .........but we did arrive around 5.00 to 6.00pm in the dark with (and left early in the morning 7.30am)....all the commuting traffic going in and out of town, so it was hectic for Derek reversing off the main road as nobody was prepared to stop and give way for him.

Sat nav Coordination's...N42'00.237' W004'32.077'...the Aire is 50m inside the car park..10 x.8m bays provided...but Derek did park amongst the cars right at the back.......the time we arrived the car park was filling up quickly as people were coming home from work.

Yes as Marie said we have arrived at Zahora, to some very pleasant weather, although today (Friday) it's raining.

Left home on 31 Dec met up with Geo & Pammy on the way down & crossed on the 1st Jan.

Had good weather after a night on the ticket car park, we had planned to stay at Cite Europe but as it was new years day the place was like a ghost town.

Set off in good conditions and made it to a small aire at Vouvray on the edge of Tours. looked new & nice layout, would be tight for an RV though.

Next day was sunny and we headed for the aire at Ondres on the coast near Bayonne and a warmer night after N France.

The next day into Spain. once again weather was OK but the rain came as we headed S of Burgos. At Salamanca we stopped at the Hotel Regio & had one of their special offer dinners for 8 euros, and spent a good night without any cold to bother us.

The next leg is one which always is discussed at some length between Jean & I. Jean always wants to stop before we reach the site. We got as far as Merida where I knew there is a camp site open in winter. but it was only lunchtime so we decided to push on as we wanted to check out the aire at Zafra as mentioned in the Vicarious book. To be fair it did indicate that it may be noisy & when we saw it was on a roundabout in the centre of town we moved on, not one for us.

We arrived at Zahora around 5 pm and as we stopped to find where the site was we were spotted by the funsters heading out for a look at the 3 Kings celebration.

So now on site & set up for a month. the site is good & the warm welcome from all the residents has been great.
