The road to Portugal.

Hell of a rush, you have missed a few gems before Lagos.
Have travelled the length of The Algarve a few times over the years,,meeting someone here next week.BUSBY.

Just used the toll road from Port Covo to Peniche. Michellin's route finder said around 10 euros. I paid 29 euros. Nice drive through Lis on on the big bridge though. There must have been at least 50 men in the water collecting shelfish. Nice views too.

Pingo Doce have a sale on just now so just had to go and have a look at the liquid section. Absolute bargains, one was so good I cycled back to Tavira this morning and filled my rucksack. Can you guess which one I bought more of?

should have crossed the bridge then got off dropped down to the river ,turned right and followed the coast around its really lovely.
plus you stand on cabo de roca ,and be most east in europe . then on to ericeira ,santa rita ,(good for parking )but never mind next time perhaps .
hope the surf is running . turbos is one of our favourite stops .

Now in Peniche. Super little place and a large Aire near city walls. I'm the only Brit here, surrounded by loads of French and Portuguise with the odd German thrown in for good measure.

Still at Santa Luzia, wife's plane was cancelled. She got to Glasgow airport to be told, did you not get an email.
Flying out on Wednesday now. The wind has died and the mozzies are after blood. (n)

If you like steaks there is a small restaurant called O Castelo which is up the street from the main square next to the Roman bridge.
On the other side of the bridge, eastern, first street on the left are 2 restaurants, both good value and used by locals, not good with names!
Opposite Lusitania to the right and to the left of the entrance to the old market is a restaurant that does a few different tapas type dishes, polvo tempura, carapau empanada, we tried those a couple of weeks ago before we left.

Three decent cafe/restaurants in Conceicao behind the site and in Santa Luzia we have had a couple of nice meals in Casa do Abade near the church.

The steak place is not cheap by Portuguese standards but the steaks are excellent as are the prawns they do as a starter, run by a Brasilian couple.

Wish the weather was like that here in La Baule(y)

We decided that the most important thing to do was get the awning repaired so went to CamperServ just off the 125,excellent service from Tommy who fitted the new gearbox with a little help from me for the cost of the part. This is a blatant post recommending them when you are stuck in this part of Europe. Cheers Tommy.

best not use an awning though . specially if wilding . its asking to be moved on for camping .
we never got asked to move or anything last winter but kept to the rules . watched several get moved on but we were left alone .

Totally agree with you,it's for when we are on proper aires or campsites Alan.

as far as i,m aware awnings shouldnt be used even if on an aire . or thats what lots of signs say and its in some of the books .

Aires come in many guises, a lot in Portugal and Spain are more like small camp sites but of course you wouldn't know that as you never use sites:)

but i do pass the aires and can read things . i do have an old aires book that quite plainly tells not to use awnings etc .
mind i did use a campsite in 2009 in l,hospitalet de la,infant 6-12-2009. cost 15.30euro back then just for one night. was 2 of us but made the decision dont use them again.
was 4.90 for the second person in my camper.

Maybe I shouldn't have said aire as I think they call them camperparks in Portugal ,here we are at the camper park in Falesia. Very large pitches, this is called a motorhome park.

Was windy and cloudy yesterday so went out on my MTB,rode along some trails into Villamoura then came back along the cliffs. Found a bar on the way back that was showing the MotoGP. (y)

Now in Baiona after crossing over from Vila Nova De Ceveria. Both are must see places.
The views of the bay and sunsets from Baiona are stunning. Now sitting on hotel veranda on the forte at Baiona drinking iced water. Already in high 20's

Went to Gale this morning having a pitch reserved for us only to find it full, so we are now on the campsite at Armacao. A wee bit rough but it has a huge pool.(y) And only 1.5€ more if you include the shower cost at Gale.

Really sorry to have to tell you that restaurant which I loved so much and posted about on Fun has closed...

My people are trying to find out if the owner has moved to larger premises or gone forever.
