The Jumar's at no. 32 go on holiday (From Spain to ????)

First hiccough of the day the Hagstroms van threw a wobbly and didn't want to start. An intermittent problem apparently.

Just got on the road when our battery symbol and STOP flashed on. We'd had a slight squeak under the bonnet for a day or two but things were now more serious.

Managed to park up and Martin and Norman investigated to find a belt split in two!!! Maybe more technical info input will be posted by those more in the know. This was the cause of no battery charging, no power steering etc.

Insurance in Madrid were called and they put in motion our recovery. Whilst we were waiting the heavens opened, so if we had to sit inside now was as good a time as any.

Taken from the comfort of Hagstrom's van.

We now have two nights at the garage, along with Ros and Norman who insist on staying with us, where, hopefully, we can get the belt replaced and hand over the credit card once more.

What is it with our van and Norway???

Now just waiting until Monday....a quick fix is hoped for....then off we go again...the joys of touring in Norway....comes at a price...as it did last year....

You could probably pay with a bottle of contraband whiskey if you have any. :) Sorry to hear of your troubles but it could have happened somewhere really remote I suppose.

We certainly weren't anywhere as remote as last year.

What price on my bottle of homemade Totana Quince Gin?

Sorry to read of your motor home woes. I hope you are back on the road soon.

Thanks Sandra. I'm sure we will be but would have preferred it to happen anywhere but here :(.

We're thinking of coming over again next year, will have to bring spares of every conceivable part .

Poor things! Don’t trade the Quince Gin!( Worth much more than a belt) Just back from watching the Owls lose 3-1 against Villa Real in a pre season friendly. Bl**dy Spanish.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I think your van doesn’t like Norway:-)

If you had a squeak before the belt snapped it’s probably a seized pulley or pump/alternator bearing that’s put an extra load on the belt. So might be worth making sure they check rather than just fit a new belt which will just snap again down the road!

We'll we've made the most of our situation and actually had one of our best bike rides. We were vying for places on the road with some young, attractive, lycra-shorted females on roller-skis, which two of us were reluctant to pass!!!

No photos, sorry .

But a photo of Ros and Norman on their bikes.

And a photo of some old barns. So much better scenery.

After a sandwich lunch and a rest Ros and I took Lester for a walk around the local lake. We managed a forage of raspberries to go with our remaining bilberries.

BUT before that we were persuaded to have pizzas from the local place, just across from our minus star parking at the garage. They were some of the best we've had and fairly cheap for where we are.

Ros on our walk putting away the visitor book and the local "beach" at the tiny lake we walked around.

All in all a good day.

Tomorrow ... who knows! Hopefully the van will be fixed by some means or other, and we'll be on our way to the Telemark canal.

Managed to have a chat with garage boss yesterday, he was paying a visit there to return some items.
I quizzed him about the possibility of a repair....he said they will do all they can to help, spares are available some 150km away, but they have a big workload.....so I will be across at 8am to get things moving....if I have to fit the belt myself then so be it...as advised by many....I will be checking pullies and tensioners, however the belt came off as we drove fast on an very bumpy incline...let's see what the day brings.

Hope you get it sorted.

Loving the photos pizza looked tasty and is that M and s Stilton dressing for the salad! We love that!
Hope MH is mended and you are on your travels ASAP.

Boss and mechanic came across to take a look at the van, and I was still in bed!!!

Quickly dressed and teeth cleaning as the van was driven across the yard. It was on a lift and I was still inside . They very kindly lowered it to let me out :D. Now sitting inside the Hagstroms van and it's raining again outside. I've had breakfast and we're contemplating going shopping.

Fingers crossed for a speedy van repair.

Motorhome assessed....need pulley, belt and tensioner....not available locally or anywhere within 150km.....3 litre Renault Master....so it's in the hands of the garage and Renault...all we can do is sit and wait..and it's just started raining also....

That's the new fishing kayak purchase finished then.....

Much hilarity here after meatballs on spaghetti (and a little drinky of wine). So much so Martin has offered to join Ros with this.

Norman and I are having normal tea.

It's not so much the price it might be the delivery. Three weeks next Tuesday fortnight:D2

Well we're still here. Had a false alarm when the van parts arrived and it went in, then the boss came to tell us the bad news. It now needs another part (alternator):cry::cry:. Its been ordered and hopefully will arrive tomorrow. We've eventually persuaded Ros and Norman to continue to the Telemark Canal area and enjoy the last week of their trip. We're in contact and will catch up with them if we can.

We did snatch a dull but fairly dry walk this morning.

We're enjoying a good meal tonight, after we've paid the bill it might be bread and water .

You might like to revise your GTB bids (I'll allow it on this thread! :D).
