The Jumar's at no. 32 go on holiday (From Spain to ????)

:Eeek::Eeek::Eeek::Eeek::Eeek::Eeek::Eeek:

Dear God,that's unbelievable ?

Not in Norway Gus.....as you know we pay realistic prices in Spain....which are in line with our incomes....here it's totally different....

omg Martin that's a fortune! Another place crossed off our trip list I don't care how nice it is
Might find space in my man cupboard for the same bits if ever needed. (n)

Have you seen the price of gin in Norway.

Have you seen the price of a lot of things in Norway?

If you shop around you can find something affordable to us normal travellers. Usually fish, and, for some unexplainable reason, Mexican food products!!!

I think Norway is off our travel plans for the next few years, much as we like the country. But we may be back again in future.

We need to come up with a plan that will prevent this sort of problem happening again.....van is 12 years old but maintained and prepared for this trip....fair wear and tear cannot be prepared for....when it breaks....mend it....so....
Judith's brother is a mechanic....leave him with a wad of cash....in the event of another happening....ask him to source the parts and post them off....complete with fitting instructions....simple....

We've put our financial hiccough behind us and had a nice day today . We'll be saying goodbye to @Hagstrom on Saturday or Sunday so need to make the most of these last few days.

We all set off for a cycle ride from the village of Vrådal from a parking area on the edge of a lake/fjord. Ros and Norman did ten miles then turned back so they could return to Lester. We don't have such a commitment so continued around the lake.

We're intending to stay here for two nights so we can go for a mountain walk tomorrow.

Today's piccies. It was rather dull for most of the day so the photos aren't as good as the scenery really was.

Looks like a great day and paella!!
Loving the positive approach!!

Great attitude (y)
That paella looks lush Mmmmmm

Glad you are sorted, you have sort of offset some of it by importing your own alcohol at least (y)

In the whole scheme of owning a Hymer it sounds about right, even bordering on good value :(

Onwards to more places to see, it could have meant a relay home (y)

Loving the trip updates again BTW :)(y)

Our aim for today was to get to the top of the mountain Roholtfjellet, an interesting bare slab mountain and the highest in the region. Unfortunately, it's pretty slippery in wet weather and we were advised not to go by the guy working in the tourist office.

Deciding we'd make our own minds up we set off and within ten minutes we were walking in rain!!! Making a unanimous decision to give the top a miss (we are walking with old(er) people after all ) we did a three hour circular passing underneath the mountain.

On the return we had a successful forage of bilberries (blueberries?) and Ros is going to make another delicious crumble.

Lester likes the berries also. He's very good at picking them but refuses to share them :D.

You've missed the film show on Pulpit Rock. :) Held in the last day or so I believe. Apparently the latest film has Tom Cruise dangling off it so they arranged a screening there. Some 4000 folk turned up - and hung around. :)

We said our goodbyes to Ros and Norman this morning. They've headed south and we've gone further east along the Telemark Canal.

Our first stop for coffee (and a fish).

IMG_20180804_100329.jpg

Then an hour or so along the lakes to Lund and then Ulefoss.

One of the locks near Lund.

At Ulefoss I'd found a 27k cycle ride. It turned out to be lovely, with only 3k on roads and the rest on forest tracks. We stopped to ask an organised event what they were doing and it turned out it was a bear hunt (without a bear but with a scent trail) using Husky dogs (or similar).

Martin checking out our return route.

We carried sandwiches but ate them back at the van with a cuppa.

We're now at a lovely spot next to a Medieval church.

With a lake a couple of minutes stroll down the track.

A family were moored at the end of the track and we had a chat before they prepared to sail. They are locals from further east and were enjoying the best Norwegian summer they'd ever known!

They told us the water was good to swim in but we've passed on that for now .

Yesterday we had a lovely cycle ride (they have got better). We parked at a cafe on the main road to Oslo and when we returned we thought we'd be there for ever.

However by the time we'd had our late lunch most of the the cars had disappeared so we made a hasty exit.

We'd found a Park4Night area, which when we pulled up looked less than suitable but we expected that the cars would leave late afternoon. There were two parking areas near a swimming lake. We went to the higher one and had a good, quiet night's sleep.

IMG_20180806_090338.jpg

The swimming lake.

We shopped (Martin for fishing stuff from Biltema at Kongsberg) and me for food!!! Then continued to a small lake nearby to have a short walk.

We're now parked at a ski jump near Vikersund and I've been out to look at the ski jump. How they can stand at the top and throw themselves down I'll never know.

The view from the bottom doesn't show the drop, but there's someone in pink climbing the ladder at the right hand side that may show the scale.

The weather is a little unstable at the moment so where we go from here is a lottery .

Over the last couple of days the weather has changed and we're having last year's conditions (almost). Yesterday morning was sunny and we did a forgettable forest ride then parked up for the night on a spot on a toll road (minor road not motorway) overlooking Holsfjorden, a lake not a fjord. A lovely spot from where people with nylon canopies throw themselves off!!!

Walking today and expect to get wet :(.

Enjoy and hope your weather is kind , are you off to Sweden soon (where all the people look tanned and tall and blond?( id hide in a cagool if I went there!!)

Sounds like you miss your buddies , and how is the crocheting getting on?!

You’ve been so lucky with the weather
Make the most of it when the sun shines
Looks like you’re both having a wonderful time

Thanks. We are having a good time even though, as expected we had a walk in the rain today. It was a bit more than we expected and we pulled ourselves up a scree slope and then a gully equipped with a rope for just that use.

We found our own Pulpit Rock and didn't have to queue for two hours for a photo opportunity!

Martin was the first in our queue (of 2).

IMG_20180808_134913.jpg

And I got second go just as the rain started!
Screenshot_20180808-173512.png

The route went up to a strange building on the top of the highest point but we decided that we didn't need to climb up there in the rain on slippery rock just to come back down.

We did, however stop at a lake for a photo and Martin had a go on a swing.

We returned via the longer, easier route and returned to the van relatively unscathed. Martin MAY have a bruise on his b*m, from slipping on a steep descent, tomorrow it'll show .

What an amazing lot of photos Judith I would have ‘ collywobbles ‘ up there!!!

We're now heading to Sweden. We drove around Oslo Airport (think East Midlands when the roads are closed by snow) and you'll get an idea of the traffic. It was raining pretty steadily by then and we had found a Park4Night recommendation at a small marina. How the originator of the entry found this place is a mystery. It's at the end of a no through road 2.5km on tarmac then 4.5km on gravel. Our clean van is now not so clean .

We pulled up, the only ones here, surprise, surprise, and within a few minutes the skies cleared and we're back in pleasant sunny temperatures.

On arrival
IMG_20180808_162835.jpg

And ten minutes later.
IMG_20180808_164901.jpg

And Martin checking out the boats. A kayak is far more likely to be purchased.
IMG_20180808_165134.jpg

Tomorrow we hope to do a cycle route that starts near here, (we can ride to join it) weather permitting, then we may cross over to Sweden.

We've been using a great app (UT.no) to find walking and cycling routes and alongside Park4Night we've found some great places to stop. Until this trip we've always used Camper Contact but found it lacking a bit in southern Norway.

Collywobbles! Was that a "word for the day"???
No but it’s a great word and means just what I’d feel up there on that precipice!!!
Enjoy Sweden! ( is gin cheaper there!)

Everything is "cheaper" than in Norway but "cheaper" is relative. Not as "cheap" as Spain that's for sure.

Not be buying gin in Sweden, Germany maybe :D.

Martin WILL be buying beer though. He ran out some days ago!

We might be selling ours! We can deliver them in November.
Thanks Sandra......what I need is just a short 2.7m sit on....fully equipped for sea fishing....rod holders, compartments for live bait......dry compartments....etc....I plan to visit a specialist shop in Murcia when I get home....hope to use on Murcia coast and during the summer on the fjords of Norway or the sea......that's my plan...let's hope it works....

Now realised you have not ventured too far north this trip, the wilderness road is several days drive north of you

one for both of us for next time :)(y)

we found beer in Norway wasn't that expensive and not too bad either (y)

We decided to come back to Norway to "do" the southern bit we missed so much of last year. We've had a good trip, made more interesting by travelling with the Hagstroms. We'll be back again another year for sure.

Hi Martin and Judith, good to read you are travelling again, we had all of June in the Rockies in a hired motorhome and have just had 2 weeks along the Rhine and Moselle with other friends and planning Provence trip in September. Are you guys still in Totana or have you moved elsewhere, we are planning to do the usual Winter trip so hope to see you plus a few others. Now got a lighter road bike, yipeeeeee, am now able to overtake old ladies!
Enjoy the travels and good fishing.
Terry and Sue
