The Jumar's at no. 32 go on holiday (From Spain to ????)

This morning I woke with a swollen, sore ankle. Don't know why, it was fine yesterday, but it made us take a day off. It was sooo hot at the Col so we headed off looking for somewhere cooler to spend the day. After an aborted stop at the motor home parking at the Col de Saises (too hot and dusty) but where we wanted to stay to go biking tomorrow, we carried on to the Col de Aravis, where, for some reason, it was much cooler. So tomorrow is now another ferrata!!!

We saw some more stunning scenery on the drive here, towards Mont Blanc. We're on the motorhome parking area just off the Col (and restaurants and shops) and seem to be under a paragliders flightpath. One has recently landed in the next field and his first question was "what was the score!!!".

Not our overnighter of choice except for the access to the ferrata tomorrow. The vans are more spaced out now luckily.

If you’ve got a sore ankle, why not give it a rest for a couple more days? You’re not in any rush are you?:cycle:
Lovely pics. I feel so grounded when I can see Mont Blanc. Everything in the world feels right, I can sit and stare at it for hours. Why not do the same.:)

Not in any rush but one day without some activity is one day too much. Have to keep going until the weather grounds us. This hot, dry weather can't be with us for much longer, can It?

Also ... it's so noisy here, every cow seems to be wearing a bell, not just the matriarch!!! Hope they go to sleep at night .

Sure you can have a day off activities Judith...you are not likely to get bored...I will leave you some washing to do and could you have coffee ready for me for when I return from the via Ferrata...

At 7.00 am, normal cuppa time, Martin said we should be off down the valley if we want to do the via ferrata before the Sunday crowds. 7.15 we were on the trail and walked past the parking just as a minibus with guide and two clients pulled in. They obviously had to be briefed so we quickly climbed the hill to keep ahead of them. The last thing you want is to be stuck on a metal rung waiting for others to move over to let you pass, especially when they have to be advised what to do.

Our return walk was down through beautiful, flower filled meadows .

We last did this ferrata six years ago and didn't remember how long it was (or maybe it just feels longer now) but we kept ahead and arrived at the summit in a time similar to before (six years time can we still do it? May give it a go all being well).

Almost back at the aire, soldier straight!!! Mont Blanc as a backdrop!!!

Just wait .....

If we get into Norway, fishy photos :LOL::LOL:

Thanks for your nice words.

It's sooo hot if we don't get out first thing, we don't get out. So today, cos we travelled, we've had a day off. We're parked near a gorge in the village of Les Planches en Montagne. We found this place on Park4Night which we've been using more than Camper Contact recently. There's a car park for the gorge and a small field behind for parking also. We're in the field under the shade of trees.

From the parking there's a walkway up the gorge to the village and back. Takes about 30 minutes, so we did that earlier today.

Our van tucked away in the shade

The gorge from the road bridge. It's deeper than it looks.

There's an old building on the stream

And from road level

Martin looking for fish!
IMG_20180702_152152.jpg

Shhh sleepy city. Village church.

And one Martin said not to post, but he'll not know!

Looks wonderful Judith
The church looks Italian, though I’m guessing you’re still in France ?

Has Martin been fishing yet ?

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Doesn't have a licence for France. He's pinning his hopes on Norway. He's got a much better knowledge about how to fish than last year.

Last year his experience was learning how to cast on a field at a holiday meet near York :Eeek:.

When he caught his first fish he had no idea what to do (and I couldn't watch)!

I'm afraid I'm unashamedly copying this from my post on the Morning thread.

Had a walk this morning cos we didn't want to muddy the bikes. Walked to the source of the River Saine, not to be confused with a similar named river.
img_20180704_093007-jpg.241823

The water just appears from the rocks!

A map showed White Horse, thought it was be a rock or a statue, but no ...

A baby donkey had to be photo'd.

After my couple of nose bleeds in Spain they stopped but I'm now getting at least one bleed a day from my left nostril only. I think it must be a blood vessel or something, it's bl@@dy annoying anyway, especially when riding the bike. It normally bleeds when I'm exercising and the blood is pumping faster. Martin says I've got to put a bung in it!!!

We're now parked next to the River Doube on another P4N recommendation at the village of Dampjoux. Just cleaned the fridge of some broken eggs and sitting with a beer.

We're now in Luxembourg (for cheap! fuel). Sitting on the banks of the Moselle/Mosel!

Drove 5 hours or so in rain. Didn't find the need to stop in this weather so carried on.

Our next part of the trip is now likely to be less adventurous but may be more relevant to any readers :D cos it will be more nice places to stop and gentle bike rides/walks.

We may be meeting up with @Hagstrom somewhere and heading to Scandiland but that's in the future and not planned for yet.

A couple of damp, grey photos from Luxymosel .

Our view from the motorhome

Just passing. One looong boat. Had to take it again as it passed.

Hi you two. We are seemingly closer to you! We are at Rocroy or Rocroi as the maps say. Great aire and small town. Moving tomorrow nearer to Strasbourg to join the Burstner owners rally at Kehl. Where exactly are you?
Bernie and Rona

We are at Remich on a small parking area and will be travelling along the Mosel in the direction of Koblenz over the next few days. So travelling in the opposite direction unfortunately.

Our next part will be more you, I think. Riverside parking and flat cycleways ... and food ... and drink ...

And .... The possibility of bumping into other Funsters!!!

How are you getting on with the new bikes?

Not new any more!!! @Hagstrom Ros and Norman's will look slightly different to our used ones (already got tape on some plastic covers). But ... for riding trails and easy single tracks they are brilliant. Martin can handle his better than I can mine cos it feels long and heavy for me .

Riding tarmac cycle trails, ie. the one towards Annecy, felt harder work than on our hybrids, but then the hybrids won't do the muddy forest tracks we've recently done.

All in all, we're very happy with them. In a few years (if they last that long) we'll be looking for uprated replacements.

2020
Anyone want to buy two used (slightly) leccy mountain bikes :LOL::LOL:

We're on a German Stellplatz at ??? (If anyone's interested I'll look it up later ). We are sandwiched between a Dutch van and a Swedish van, and we were first here!!! The Germans are elsewhere.

Been for a cycle ride along the Mosel and back t'other side. Seen many, very full, Stellplatz's.

Tomorrow we're thinking the Schloss walk we did in 2016 and then staying at the Stellplatz at Kesten. Then "slowly" hightailing it up north, through Denmark and into Norway whilst the weather there is good.

Meeting up before or in Norway with @Hagstrom is highly on the cards, if they get their act together.

Looking forward to seeing Lester :D

Just seen your thread . What a fantastic time your both having . Loving the pictures too.
Thanks for sharing . Very jealous.
I could do the bike but not the rickety mile high bridgy things .
I think I’d freeze and need rescuing!
I’ll be looking out for your updates from now on . Stay safe and well and keep on traveling.

Thanks for your comments Bev. Hope it keeps you occupied for a while whilst languishing in your bed.

Unfortunately (for us) we're now out of the rickety mike high bridge things and are into a more gentle part of our trip. Nevertheless, I hope we can find enough of interest to post about. We still have two months of travelling (including Scandiland we missed out on last year) before we go to the UK for friends and family visiting. Then we are hoping to walk the Camino Primitivo (from Oviedo over the mountains to Santiago). I'm hoping my sciatica problem keeps at bay long enough to get me back to Totana. Soreness I can ignore!!!

Hope you're out and about again soon.

The birds are Egyptian Geese. :) Not native, they are an introduction in Europe from, I guess, Egypt! https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/wildlife-guides/bird-a-z/egyptian-goose

Had a message from @Hagstrom they've booked a ferry to Kristiansand, so we've just done the same. Off to Norway next week .

Now have the problem of what to do with the wine we've brought for the whole trip. Do we just go innocently and hope they don't check (like last year) or should I use the filled pillow ruse. Decisions, decisions :(.

I have a week to decide .
