The Jumar's at no. 32 go on holiday (From Spain to ????)

It may be windy but that doesn't stop Martin going fishing, especially after he'd seen a German couple fishing using belly floats! A new one on us! They'd caught lots so Martin had to give it a go. Of course they weren't fishing from the side. They sit in them wearing a type of wetsuit and flippers!!!

It may be windy (have I mentioned that?) but we also had a nice sunset.

It's normally called float tube fishing. :)

Have you tried it?
Don't think it would be suitable for me on the Med....we be getting my sea fishing kayak in October.....as they say "If they won't come to me" etc etc...

I'd be worried about the big fish nibbling my toes. :) They do a lot if it in lakes in the US where I think it originated but a bit tricky in the sea where there are currents and tides.

Sure, slack water use only....the two who were using their rigs were dressed in neoprene and with divers flippers....this should protect your toes....but I must join you in your fears.

We've had a quiet day today, in more ways than one when we left over the bridge.

IMG_20180821_160037.jpg

The wind HAD dropped this morning, a bit breezy now though, and our proposed bike ride became a forest walk, but very enjoyable nevertheless. Check out the autumn beech leaves.

We are now on a farm/vineyard??? Stalplats and the only other van here is a Luxembourg registered one. A couple and three children. The kids came running up to us excitedly when they saw our reg number. Their mother is "SPANISH" (although from Barcelona!) and the father is from Luxembourg but with a Portuguese father! Very nice to speak with and their language skills leave us embarrassed :blusher:. They speak a lot of different ones between them!!! Even the kids :frowny:.

Going for a stroll to the coast soon to see whether it's good for :reel:

Had a stroll to the coast to a tiny hamlet that looked more like Cornwall than Sweden. The village of Gislövshammar grew up around stonemasonry.

Along the coast there were the remains of the stone cutting.

A little further was another concentration of gulls and geese. A local couple told us that about a kilometre away there is an area where hundreds are gathering. There was also an apple tree growing on the beach. We now have another bowl full! Crumble coming up soon (y).

A surprisingly pretty corner of the Swedish coast.

Our last afternoon and night in Sweden and tonight is the apple crumble a la the recipe suggested by @Robert Clark

Photo to follow

We are now within striking distance of tomorrow morning's ferry and are parked on a field next to the harbour of the village of Smygehamn. We, of course, opted for shade.
There's room for about 150 vehicles and totally free!!

IMG_20180822_145736.jpg

We've recce'd the fishing potential and had a stroll to (and up) the lighthouse. It was decommissioned some years ago but is now back in use.

And a potential renovation project! But I think a kayak is more likely to be purchased :D.
IMG_20180822_145158.jpg

The crumble piccie will be posted once it's been cooked .

Awaiting the crumble piccy, Judith. (Personally, Martin, I wouldn't go fishing, sitting on what looks like a floating porta-potty.)

Here it is ...

IMG_20180822_173002_HDR.jpg

Topped with creme fraiche and honey.

Martin says "it's nice" "muy buena".

I'm finishing the last of the "pillow" wine with cheese. Martin has another portion for tomorrow. He won't drink the wine, says it's too old now, but I've not had any adverse effects.

Tomorrow, first stop in Rugen, is a German Lidl. Our van probably weighs the lightest it's weighed since we bought it!!! Nothing in the cupboards or the fridge. Soon remedy that (y)

Not had much internet in Lidl-land (can't get a decent signal) but am now sitting on a small harbour using free WIFI. Martin's gone off to try his hand with German fish!

My view as it happens ... from where I'm sitting.

IMG_20180824_174942.jpg

It's taken a long time for this to upload so I don't expect to be posting more in the near future.

Going for a stroll around the "sculpture park" now.

Laters ...

Had a cycle ride from the Stellplatz then moved on. Tried four or five places and all were full!!! Eventually came further south (or rather west) than we intended and we spent last night and tonight at a Stellplatz at Neuenberg. We spent one night here last year when we caught up with friends from Totana Camperstop. This year we don't have any friends here!

IMG_20180826_175614.jpg

It's not as empty as it looks. Just that everyone around us last night have left. Everyone else is off shot to the right!

IMG_20180826_175724.jpg

We are on another marina (surprise) and Martin will be having another try later. Not a quitter is Martin

IMG_20180826_175820.jpg

IMG_20180826_175005.jpg

We had (another) bike ride and a five minute forage. Now bubbling gently in red wine and honey.

IMG_20180826_180915.jpg

Small plums and mirabelles.

The weather is mixed, with occasional heavy showers, but we've managed to be inside every time it's rained so far.

Mirabelles were what they were called in France, I don't know if they have an English name.

Not managed to get any Sloes yet cos Martin isn't interested in them, i.e. he can't eat them!! and there aren't any around here.

I see you're off on a trip, have a good one!

After a bit of an incident with a wooden post and our back bumper, we left the Stellplatz and called in at Rostock and replaced our Umwelt windscreen sticker. The original was lost when our screen was replaced and we've been lucky so far not to enter a green zone.

The weather today has been grey with rain at times. We're now parked at a Stellplatz at Molln. Our first impression was of a pleasant small town but after a walk around both our impressions changed. It's a town with an old original centre but with pockets of less desirable areas.

However, the nice bits are nice especially the lakes.

We were going to ride from here tomorrow but we'll probably move on somewhere else instead.

Had a brilliant bike ride, one of the best we've done for a long time. Bit saddened by all the fruit going to waste, apples, pears, plums, to name only three. Saw lots of lovely Sloes but couldn't (a) stop to pick them and (b) had nowhere to carry them as the rucksack was full of apples.

Today's stash.

img_20180828_141043-jpg.251521
spot the rogue pear :D

Our view from our door at our Stellplatz at Ratzeburg. When we arrived others were just leaving. We got a prime spot and we were handed a paid ticket to last until this evening.
Just going to pay for ourselves now

The App Komoot worked brilliantly and the maps on the phone were the best we've used yet. Will be trying it out again, maybe tomorrow.

If Martin has been fishing...

img_20180828_152634-jpg.251525

...I don't believe it was that big. :)

Haha he wishes

He was telling me that swimming was allowed between two points only.

A bit further along, in the middle of nowhere was another swimming platform.

Not cheap to build, and for who???

Had a stroll around Ratzeburg yesterday evening after watching a balloon pass over the meadow.

There must be an old part to the town but we only found the new. Some nice apartment blocks and a large square with bars, etc.

The Stellplatz is on an "island" in the lake and the old part is possibly in the opposite direction to where we walked :).

Walked a nice 10km circuit this morning, around the lake and along some of yesterday's trails. We then drove, slowly :(, around Hamburg to stop at a Stellplatz at the village of Sittensen.

Not explored yet, but Martin found an Italian restaurant and came back with a delicious pizza. He also found an ice-cream parlour where he is at this moment, correction he's just arrived back . Lemon cheesecake, pistachio and tiramisu combo!

IMG_20180829_180109.jpg

We've been here alone since we arrived but we are now four (out of six places).

IMG_20180829_151258.jpg

There's a park with a lake and fountain across the road and an old mill (now a museum) behind us. Looking good for an exploration of the village and surrounding area.

IMG_20180829_151105.jpg

IMG_20180829_150924.jpg

We have a ride from here planned for tomorrow (on the App) so looking forward to that.

P.s. I'm doing the Morning Funster three day challenge so it's probably the first time I've ever eaten pizza without a glass of red .

Seems wrong not having red wine with pizza
A nice glass of water just doesn't seem the same

It rained all night and was still grey and damp this morning so we decided to drive and give it chance to clear.

First hitch. Motorway junction closed . Bullied the satnav into taking us a different way then came to the typical German road closed (actually road completely dug up) with no diversion help. More satnav shenanigans but we eventually got back onto the motorway and back on route with quite a few extra kilometres added :(.

Instead of our proposed overnight stop we pulled in early and came back to one of the outward bound Stellplatz we used in July. We had a ride planned (on the App of course) and managed 34 km without getting wet (y).

Tomorrow will, hopefully, be today's proposed itinerary (y).

And now for something completely different!

We are parked on a Stellplatz on an airfield near the town of Damme. Been for a bike ride (no difference there then :D) but now sitting over a late lunch and watching people taking tandem parachute jumps. Martin is VERY tempted, but with his track rate I'm not so sure. However ... if he really wants to maybe there'll be some more piccies tomorrow .

On the bike ride, around a lake with FREE motorhome parking. We thought here would be more interesting :). We were very surprised by how touristy the lake was. Wouldn't have liked to have been here four weeks ago.

At a bird watching hide.

IMG_20180831_130339.jpg

And the result  other selfies may be more acceptable .

IMG_20180831_162001.jpg

Lunch outside. Steak, fried spuds (leftovers from yesterday!) and salad, with a glass of Australian! Shiraz AND watching the brave.
jumping from a tiny plane.

Not this one though .

IMG_20180831_161058.jpg

Tomorrow, we'll probably be staying around this area 'cos we don't need to be at the Hook until Tuesday evening.

We've moved onwards and westwards. Now between Osnabruck and the Dutch border at a Stellplatz on a canal at Riesenbeck. €5 to park and metres for leccy. The last few times we've used such metres to charge the bike batteries we've not used all of a 50 cents allowance!

We had a short bike ride today. Along the canal, through a forest and back (with a short oooops moment when we got scratched and nettled before giving in and retracing our way). Our fault entirely, no-one else had travelled along that particular path for years .

From our parking spot
IMG_20180901_154507.jpg

And a few minutes along the canal
IMG_20180901_154419.jpg

And Kloster Gravenhorst, some shrine in the forest. Connected to a Cistercian Monestary.

I was thrown by your Dummer See as I didn't recognize it. :) A bit of Googling suggests there are at least two Dummer Sees in Germany. The one I knew is near Osnabruck.
I'm not sure of the origin of the name. "Dummer" means foolish/stupid but applied to a lake? It must have another meaning. :)
