The village of Aiguines ....at 837 metres high , my ears need to pop. Very quiet village there's literally silence ( or my ears really need to pop )

Have you thought about direction of travel from Moustiers ? Not too sure if you have moved on already as the second lot of pictures are from the eastern side of the lake by the bridge.
Moustiers is worthy of an overnight, they light up the mountain and the star across it (you might not see it in daylight) Lac de Castillon just north of Castellane there is plenty of lakeside free overnight stops and Castellane is ok.
Or North would have to include Sisteron but dont choose the aire in the town under the rock. Theres one by the lido or one at the top and i think it was next to the cemetary. Digne is worthy of a miss, Both aires are out of town, one by the thermal baths (bloody expensive) but the other one is at the other end of town at the free lido but August and the water was freezing (even for a bravehearted fella like yourself)
Let us know your thoughts as to which direction and we can try to help with places that appear to suit you better.
I had considered staying over at moustiers but I thought as I had been round the village I'd rather move on and stop somewhere else.
This wee village of Aiguines is nice and quiet despite me actually being parked on the main road out of the village. ..Theresa maybe been a dozen cars went by in the last 2 hours so it could be a nice spot overnight and then I'll drive the road past the gorges tomorrow.
Especially as the sun has now gone and the clouds have descended and back to light rain at the minute. I'll probably do the D71 from here to comps sur artuby then take the d955 from there to jabron and the d52 d252 to castellane after that.
I'm just hoping I've enough fuel ha ha as petrol stations are few and far between around here and I'm just above 1/4 tank.
Castellane looks like the next one

I don't usually have a problem finding places to overnight park4night shows literally hundreds around here.

I might actually stay here tonight as after lunch I could do with a nap lol.

Internet signals not great here though

Tam

Glad you are finding nice places.

If you are feeling like a nap definitely stay, as you need good alertness for the gorge.

Watch the overhangs when hugging the cliff side for passing, as we found in our 3m high MH we had to stop sometimes till past the oncoming traffic.

Do your photos on the South side as there are more and bigger parking spots - the North side less, and some, even with one or two cars in, leave no room for a large MH. We drove the whole North side without being able to stop.

Enjoy it.

Is it an accompaniment for a Urry ?

I know it’s Latin, not French.

Google says
  1. an ancient Celtic fortified town, especially one under Roman rule.

Which explains why it’s in Latin

I m not sure but i think you missed my humour.

An oppidum being an accompaniment to an Urry, was a quip where the first letter was missing.
A poppidum being an accompaniment to a Curry.
Indian and not French or Latin.(y)

I’m loving your photos. I want to send you back to the Cevennes, the Tarn Gorge, the Gard region .... I love France
I agree, Gard region or down to the bottom of Provence or the top of Provence or the Ardeche. Tarn and Jonte gorges have to be up there. Cevennes is another great region, Herault (which he stopped at Salagou but missed Celles, Pezenas st guileim le desert, pont du diablo,Lodeve, I think he would love Nimes and if there was a decent aire then Arles as well, Anywhere 20 to 400 miles north of the med right the way across, to be fair.

I support Jacob Rees Mogg. I couldnt have him thinking i was misquoting Latin. Parce mihi Deus

I hope that’s humour too!!
Fraid I didn’t actually read your post .. it was a quick way of quoting Tam’s original without going back a page ... his thread moves so quickly! But yes, funny ...

It looks like Tam is heading off on one of the best roads in Europe tomorrow. Certainly not near the best ones for driving on, and certainly not in a motorhome, wish him luck, and hopefully he makes it and incoming stunning photography tomorrow.

Tam, there is a hotel, about halfway along on the left hand side. If you stop there you can walk the dogs down to the clue know as the styx. Water will be too cold and probably too high to go canyoning in but worthy of a pop down. Take every opportunity for photos and enjoy.

There you are Tam, we don't expect a lot of you!
I await the outcome of your viewings tomorrow with eager anticipation.
You realise, I hope, that your destiny has been decided - you are doomed to forever travel the universe, reporting back on a daily basis to your loyal followers.
In the brief gaps between journeys you may dash off books, speak in schools and young offenders institutes.
Oops sorry, how embarrassing, I must have been dreaming - or was I? :X3:

You do know i have never done these roads and am just using you as a guinea pig for me next month dont you ?

Showing my ignorance one again, what is a "clue", and no, I'm not talking about crosswords. I did Google it, but they were no help in this context (n)

Now that Line of Duty has finished.... A clue is like a like a canyon that you can generally jump into within a gorge and go canyoning in during the right conditions.
you will occasionally see "clues de named river" within a gorge and always worthy of a stop.
There are some really great clues that run over from where he is down to near Grasse but the name escapes me atm. I used a book called "Wild Swimming in France" to locate them and here are a number of hidden gems in Provence. The book is only a fiverish off ebay and well worth purchasing as a reference for beautiful spots. I have bought the italian one and the spanish one as well but they dont quite butter the parsnip as well as the the french one.

Edit: try googling clues do haute provence and you get a list of them. Or i could give you a link https://www.departement06.fr/decouverte-touristique/la-route-des-clues-2290.html
