Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

Could be worse Tam. This is our village in Crete where we're heading for, arriving in a few days. Total devastation!

We arrived at sainte croix du Verdon around 9.30am parked on the aire as you only pay for overnight. Nice little village but even more dead than Spain...I didn't see one person lol
Internet is painfully slow so uploading pictures is like pulling teeth it's taken over an hour to upload these.

Do you resize your pics before uploading?
Might make a difference to upload speed [especially on an iffy connection] & data use.
I use "Photo & Picture Resizer".
Typically reduces a 6mb photo to about 0.5mb

Anyway - however long those particular photos took to upload, was worth it... views across the lake from the village - stunning (y).

Probably before your time but that last posting put me in mind of "Camp Granada" ?
"It's stopped raining, it's stopped hailing, guys are swimming, guys are sailing. Mother, Father kindly disregard this letter ".

The drive along the gorge on the south side is worth it as others have said. We were there in June so a bit more traffic about, in fact that aire was full and the campsite only had a few spaces left. We drove the gorge early to avoid the tourist coaches which seemed to arrive around midday but I guess there will be fewer at this time of year. We didn’t like the north side route as too busy with impatient local traffic.
We like the aire at Castellane also mentioned by someone before and I think it would suit you too. You would be able to climb the rock which towers over the aire.

In all our trips to France, we’ve never touched the south coast.

In Italy, apart from the Cinque Terre towns on the Italian riviera (best visited by boat in warm sunny weather) i think the only place to be is inland, the lakes, the history, etc. However a visit to Pompeii near Naples is a must but roads a nightmare!

If you do go down the coast, a visit to the Carrara marble caves is worthwhile and very interesting. They are still being worked and diggings out now so extensive that you go in by minibus.
Edit Don’t take one of these expensive tours, just drive up to the signposted quarry and there is parking and a guided tour inside about 12 euro,

have you tried changing networks.
Yeah I have to do it regularly with the plan I'm on I can use any provider I can get. I was on fsr this morning but on Orange now which is a little better thankfully as I've a lot of pics of this village which is beautiful

If its any consolation it's chucked it down in Murcia since yesterday afternoon and blowing a gale. Rain has now stopped but very strong and chilly wind.
Ah well I'm glad it wasn't jist France then ...It's nicer today ...that climb up to the chapel just now had me sweating

Great to hear you sounding so much more positive and cheerful Tam :)

:Eeek:Where are you then ? Sun turned to cloud yesterday afternoon as forecast for showers from 2pm on but nothing came of it. I've just removed /replaced my glowplugs & had to fight the heat & flies :(
Very windy though

Well it took enough posters telling you to get away from the coast.

Will you now believe us that there are nice parts of France?

A grovelling apology will do.

So have you found some nice bits of France now?
Yes this is definately more my type of area...but to be honest looking on the map it's hard to see that ...so I'm glad folk told me.
That's the problem when you've not been somewhere before.

Have you thought about direction of travel from Moustiers ? Not too sure if you have moved on already as the second lot of pictures are from the eastern side of the lake by the bridge.
Moustiers is worthy of an overnight, they light up the mountain and the star across it (you might not see it in daylight) Lac de Castillon just north of Castellane there is plenty of lakeside free overnight stops and Castellane is ok.
Or North would have to include Sisteron but dont choose the aire in the town under the rock. Theres one by the lido or one at the top and i think it was next to the cemetary. Digne is worthy of a miss, Both aires are out of town, one by the thermal baths (bloody expensive) but the other one is at the other end of town at the free lido but August and the water was freezing (even for a bravehearted fella like yourself)
Let us know your thoughts as to which direction and we can try to help with places that appear to suit you better.

At the minute I've stopped in Aiguines to have a spot of lunch.

Do you use maps.me ? I have downloaded all the beautiful villages and spots in France (I have all the aires, france passion, service points etc.)
I managed to send them via text to someone on here the other day (18,500 of them) and he uploaded them to his maps.me succesfully.
If not I can put the names on here for you to give consideration to if you want

Love the pictures Tam,the wildness, the colour of the water. Great - thanks for sharing it all with us. (y):D. I have little or no chance of getting there in person so really appreciate the effort you put into all your postings.
