Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

I would, daughter's Springer swallowed a stone got stuck in he bowel vet fee £3500, 9 months later did it again this time only got stuck in her stomach £1500.
May be two tier pricing but also two year treatment. Daughter's dog got rushed in and operated on at midnight dogs without insurance had to wait for normal hours for their ops. Could be the difference between surviving or not.
That's the thing though ..would it have been that expensive had it not been through insurance?
It's a hard one but I do think they take the wee wee when they know it's insurance.
I dunno I'm undecided

If I'm paying they'd be doing it there & then .I'd make it plain if the dog died they'd be following shortly! Doesn't happen here took mine in on a sunday emergency. also had another operated on after closing time,9pm.

So Sharon messaged last night and all milos blood tests have came back negative which is great ...his opp went well to so ......

I can collect him tonight at 5pm :roflmto::roflmto::roflmto::clap:

I've tried to tell jade to make the most of her last few hours having me to herself but meh she don't listen.

So I guess I'm off to Totana later today

I’m very pleased Jade is ok. It’s horrible when anything happens to them.
Good luck with Milo.
Now you’ll have 2 to worry about & watch, more leads needed!

Another aspect worth considering in this day and age is do you need 3rd party insurance ie if the dog gets loose on the road and causes and accident (I suppose they could cause a fatal accident if running loose on a cycle or even forestry track) or they go sheep worrying.

Now the fun (and trouble ) really begins Tam. You may have thought "for better or worse" was a mistake not worth repeating but sonny you ain't seen nothing yet! :ROFLMAO:

I believe that most household policies cover for that scenario. I was quite surprised to find they also do here.
Then again as Tam hasn't a house...

@Lenny HB I don't doubt what you say at all but I think it's disgraceful an emergency is still an emergency whether the animal is insured or not.
That scenario you describe is one I hadn't contemplated and is very worrying.
Not quite like that more a case of owners paying out of their own pocket often can't afford the out of hours treatment.

We used to have cats never had insurance, last year MIL's cat broke it's leg jumping off the sofa, no insurance cost over 2 grand.

When I got a second dog, the first was just over 2 and had been with me every day from 9 weeks old. Initially he thought "what a cute puppy", then I think he was a little surprised he came in the van with us, and threw up everywhere. (worth remembering he might not travel too well to start with).

Then we got home and he wasn't overly pleased, did his best to ignore him, growled at him when their paths crossed, this went on for about a week, then if they woke up in the morning and the pup had a watery eye or the like he would wash his face, if he got in to any scrapes with other dogs he would go and sort it out for about the first year, then he let him get on with it.

They are quite independent now, but would stick up for each other if they needed to. Hope yours are as compatible.

We were probably lucky but had as many as 6 dogs at one time and over a period of probably 20 years never had a really expensive vets bill..We did have an excellent vet though..Never thought of taking pet insurance out..Doubt i could have afforded it for 6 of them plus 3 cats. BUSBY:D2:D2

Think dogs are very much like people, they either click or they don't..Our last two a GSD and a Jack Russell just about got on but only i think because the GSD was tolerant,,Jack Russell pushed her luck sometimes. On the other hand we had a Fox Terrier and a Yorky who were really good mates..BUSBY. Happy memories.:D:D

Jade gets on with everyone and every dog so I'm pretty sure she will be fine.
At the minute milo has been sharing with 5 or 6 other dogs and a cat in sylvias kitchen and Sharon says he's very sociable so hopefully they will be best buddies.

Will just have to wait and see.

Popped in to Lidl for some shopping ( read cakes and more cakes ) and I have to say I noticed this before but forgot ....they don't sell puppy food ...why is that ?
Jade is on adult stuff now so I'm gonna have to go to mercadonna for a bag of puppy food

Although Silvia will probably give me some of what milo has been used to anyway so I can adjust him.

But surely folk that shop at Lidl have puppies...stupid Mr Lidl

Re pet insurance - I'm not a fan.
I would consider the option of "Self Insuring"... putting away the equivalent of an insurance premium each month into a savings scheme... that way you build up a buffer should you need it, or get to keep the money if you don't.
My vet doesn't like insurance - and so has developed a number of schemes for clients. The one I'm in, pay in £20/mth so build up a fund... doesn't pay interest but offers some free services in lieu. I think it works really well.
The other option is if your pet needs really expensive treatment, you can't afford, the vet offers a low cost repayment plan.

I don't know about Spain but all the Lidls in Poland are a standard size and not very big floor areas, so I assume they cannotstock everything and have to limit their ranges.

Always fed normal dog food to my dogs all their lives plus liver, sheeps heads (the meat from them)fresh pilchards or any oily fish but their favourite was scraps on a sunday,,better half always looked extra veg and yorkshires and gravy. Did them no harm,,fox terrier lived until she was 17,Jack Russell 16,GSD 14. BUSBY:D2

never looked but noticed that Aldi's do the other day.along with Mercadona or Carrefour
Yeah I'm parked in alhama de murcia at minute having some lunch ...There's a mercadonna round corner so I'll go fetch some cachorro food :)

At that rate my daughter's vets bills would take over 20 years to pay off.

Just quickly read around thirty odd pages , haven't been able to for a while, so in approx order
Brilliant Mum got home.
Hope Jade is ok.
Looking forward to seeing your addition to the family ( b8ll less or not)
Will now be able to read every day.
Take care Tam,
John

@gus-lopez hmm, me neither.!

My younger bitch is a semi-rescue, was rehomed because apparently the already resident dog (a mature rough collie (lassie dog) kept attacking her even when she was a newly weaned baby pup and it was getting steadily worse.
The young bitch was a nervous wreck what I got her at 10 months old.
However I think it is most unusual for an adult dog to continually attack a young pup.
I think there was probably serious mismanagenth on the part of the previous owner.
It sounds like Milo has been very well socialised already and a dog and a bitch don't normally have any problems getting along I think Jade has just got herself a new playmate.

@Shrimp it's something I've always trained any male pups that I've had that cocking their legs on every post, pillar and tree they come across is not acceptable behaviour. If they are started early enough it's a simple enough thing to train.
