Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

My vets back in the UK (who regularly spends long periods in Portugal with their family dogs) recommended that I equipped my dogs with them for use on arrival.
They also protect against ticks and mosquitos, both of which are also common in UK also.
While wearing my Mama Val hat, I'll just say to remember to worm Jade regularly as with her scavenging abilities she will be vulnerable to getting infested with worms from any bits of dead and decaying carcasses she may happen upon.
As you are planning to travel further afield it would do no harm to keep spare wormers and Scalibor collars for both dogs.
I know as a Scot this might go against the grain but as a doting and responsible doggy dad you will have the health and welfare of your little charges at heart.:)

On a different note..how scary is this?
I've never seen these in person before and even in pics i have never seen this many.

Parked in alicante and we went for a walk around the park and sports fields...And I actually stood on one of these piles ...There's literally hundreds of piles of these hairy caterpillars here.

Needless to say jade won't be getting out on her lead on her own

The first year in was across my chum went on around the coast and back up through Portugal. He said one camp site he stopped on, the owner was cutting masses of branches off the trees and burning huge "nests " of the wretched things. Ugh I'm glad I've only ever seen one tennis ball sized lot here.

I just hope they dont move North:eek: Hope its too cold and wet for them over here.
Wipe you feet well at Calais Everyone:D.

Aren't they quite poisonous, I seem to remember hearing about caterpillars that walk in procession (I could be making that up) but please check as they were harmful to dogs.

Very dangerous for dogs and children a good sprinkling of salt soon despatches them, my dog ( spaniel) always has her nose down so I’m very aware. The path between camping tortilla and el taco has them in Beni ( deliberate spelling) Tam I’m moving south to Nerja on wed/ thurs if you fancy a beer

Yep that's why I posted it and said how scary is that as I was walking jade when we found them but I'd passed loads before I realised what they were

Yeah jade is the same nose is always mooching the ground

Had to keep her lead pulled to keep her head up till we got back to van.

Will have to look where nerja is again

Edit

Just looked and way too south for me at the minute I'm in alicante but will be hanging around up here till I pick up milo which will be next week now

Have a trip up into the Jalon Valley (unless you've already been). Backtracking a bit though.

I thought aparcar was parking and estacion was placement?
Aparcar is park
Estacionar = stationary or in this case means park.
The first line is
"Esta usted en un lugar prohibido para estacionar o acampar"
Which translates as
" You are in a place where parking & camping are prohibited. "

Thanks for that post. It must be really scarey keeping a dog in a known infected /infested area.
Poor Britain, it lost it's Elm trees, it has Ash die back. Large areas of firs/pines in the Highlands are already under surveillance by the forestry commission coz some morh is killing them and now our great oaks are threatened, how very sad.

Well after a walk around the park we left the depressingly boring alicante and headed up to murcia. I've just arrived at the very busy aire at thadar. I did go to empty my cassettes as I'm on tank 2 lol but there's a queue of about 8 vans waiting for the services and a rather butch French woman growling at anyone who dares to go near the service point so I'll wait till later. .

I just stopped and a gold coloured hymer with foreign plates ( didn't see where from ) drove past and it has massive motor home funster stickers in the rear windows.

It's parked a bit behind me so I'm gonna go hide lol

Too late I just PMd them that you are a bit shy but want them to pop by for coffee :sneaky::LOL:

But are you displaying funster stickers too Tam , or are you anonymous?
My funster sticker lasted till I got to villanova last year when the 3rd person ranted at me about the forum lol so I removed it and haven't had one since.

Also a few folk have said they thought it was a swingers site as "fun" in some circles means casual sex

Not that I object to that of course just I'm not that in to pensioners :p

You mention the large dinner plate sized Funster stickers. I have seen them quite a few times now but where do they come from? The ones we got eventually were just Tax disc size. I must say the ones I have seen have mostly been displayed on European Motorhomes. Maybe there is an EU MotorhomeFun alternative???

No probs I’m there (just me and dog) in my gaff until mid March now so if you need access to washing machine, proper shower or just to talk bollocks etc etc drop me a pm. There is free parking down in town on park for night.
