Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

The quality is awful, I thought the guy had a good rep, perhaps he normally one sells to blind people.
Yep I'm glad people are agreeing and its not just me being picky ....my heart sank when I opened the box as I had hoped that I could at least get this fixed this week.

I heard nothing but good reviews of this guy and I even messaged the guy on facebook that had ordered one of these a few months back to ask him about his experience and he said it was perfect, great quality etc

Few people on here have used him also

But I have to say I'm not impressed .....even the fitting isn't great

I mean I could probably fit it and make it look OK by fixing bits on it and working out some way of adapting the drain hole

But I shouldnt have to

The problem is where else do I get one and within the next couple of weeks.

Pissed off with everything this week

How much does he want for it Tam?
Its supposed to be £145 plus £15 postage 😱

If it was perfect and looked nice and shiny like the one he displays in his website id have been happy to pay that but it has lots of little imperfections, its quite dull theres sanding marks etc , the hole is too big so needs fibreglassed and recut

I could make it work ...it wouldn't be perfect by any stretch though

But I planned to go away in 5 weeks time ...it took 11 days from me ordering this for it to arrive .. to send it back for repair would likely take as long and at the minute ive no handbasin and a bloody cracked shower.

I'm honestly gutted ...ive not spoke to him yet as I'm not sure i could do it calmly

It's certainly not a good advert for his work, especially being highlighted on a MH forum. Can you email him with your pics and ask him for a solution, maybe mention that he was recommended on here and lots of people are watching your thread to see your repairs including his sink. Maybe save you losing your cool over the phone.

Thats really bad.
But its your choice, however its not going to help with resale when you decide to move the van on.

Not planning to sell for a while ....unless more things go wrong then im gonna blow it up.

But the sink wouldn't look like that when I sold it....if he gives me it cheaper I'll attempt to fix it

Yeah ill email him in the morning with the photos and see what he comes up with.

His mould has obviously had some damage and been repaired badly and mirrored onto the finish product or should that be unfinished ! poduct.
i wonder if you could fibreglass the rear of your sink with glass fibre tissue ( thin veil type stuff, usual used as the first layer on gel coat) and use a domestic plug.

I've dropped him a message with some pics this morning to see what he comes up with.

He will most likely suggest sending it back to be repaired or another one made but my problem with that is how long it will take and whether all the issues would be fixed as I think its more difficult to make it right when you don't have the van there to fit it in.
Or indeed if he just decides not to do it at all and then im stuck with no sink.

So im thinking of proposing I pay him something for it and I then try and do something with it myself so i at least have a sink. ...i don't have many options

I wish I'd just left the old one in and lived with it ...

You do have a skill set that could give you a nice finished product so if he is prepared to give you the sink at a discounted price it may be the way forward.
im just shocked that after the high praise he seems to have got that he sends you such shoddy work.

Yes I'm really surprised that he sent that out to be honest there seems to be no quality control.

I've had a reply from him saying he could make another with the drain hole blank for me to drill myself and TRY and get a better finish ...but the try doesn't fill me with confidence

And it would be the end of next week he reckoned

Still down to how good his mould is, which by some of the area’s doesn’t look the best.

Yep it looks that way ... and i could wait another week for one to arrive that isn't much better.

But going by his latest response we are poles apart on what I'd consider a fair price to pay for this one

Get another one from him if he said it will be there on Friday, if it’s ok then all good, if not pick the best one for a reduced price and make the most of it....
It’s a shame it’s not as good as reviews but as with Hymer Prices they have you over a barrel and other replacement traders know that and expect people to accept inferior work... or pay the price...🤔

Tam,
You are very handy and I think you could do a good enough refurnish on that sink.
I would take the £35 and resin and fibre glass.(I have hole cutter if you need)👌

I agree with that, and forget about the £15 postage, so it's £110 with the stuff to fix it. About as good as you are going to get.

OK well I managed after a bit of negotiations to agree to £70 and then I went and got a glass fibre kit

Made a start

I have a hole saw Razamataz 👍 but thanks for the offer

I reckon my biggest challenge will be painting it ....i don't have gelcoat but its fibreglass so gloss spray paint should be fine really ....my old vw beachbuggy was just ordinary spray paint

Will see how it progresses

Dulux Gloss sprays well if you have a compressor and gun.
Unfortunately I don't have a compressor so will probably be done by rattle cans will give it a light sand all over with wet n dry first ...see if i can get rid of a few of the other marks first

Good luck Tam, i'm sure you will make a good job of it. It will certainly look better than what you received, & good price negotiated too. Looking forward to the finished pictures.

You do moan a bit LoL , don’t let it get on top of you , your better than that , your standards & skills are very good , once you are finished you’ll look back & say wasn’t that bad & you’ll be proud of the Finnish you’ve achieved 👍

Almost everything the civil service does is very complicated and poorly organized. It is what they do.
Just out of curiosity I phoned brownhills.

A replacement sink from hymer is £479 😱

That's interesting. I had to replace my sink earlier this year. I bought from Brownhills and the cost was £240.

That was for an original Hymer sink. I have the same make and model
asTam.
My sink was made by Hymer in Germany and shipped over here.

That is very strange...nearly half the price the quoted me

so i finished off the fibreglassing today and fine sanded the imperfections he had left

And now given it a coat of primer .... a few runs in the primer ill need to fine sand before top coat but the drain hole looks good and got rid of quite a few of the other marks . The gloss coat will possibly bring up a few though so will see
