Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

I'm embarrassed and ashamed of ours
Hey chill out mate ...Europe is still there...so’s Scotland...we’re all friends together. Without wanting to get too political ? I think the EU’s vaulting ambition to compel nations into ever-closer union has become, to say the least, very harmful. Ooh...that was a bit political wasn’t it ?...keep me gob shut from now on ?and concentrate on enjoying life touring Europe in a MH....albeit for 90 day stints unless these insurance companies pull their fingers out and start issuing green cards for Morroco at a reasonable cost.

Tam have you closed this post down? I miss your banter as I’m sure many more Funsters do. At least let us know you and your Mum are OK.......

He changed his name to "Gone", not sure what to make of that.

Hasn't been on since the day of change - March 17.

It always winds me up when I see & hear that most of our fish catch is not wanted by us, and is exported to France, Spain & beyond. If I wanted to buy 10/12 Langoustines, A fresh Lobster, A dozen Oysters, etc with a visit to even the largest UK supermarket I would come back empty handed.
Give us a chance I say, put them out, they will still be cheaper than French prices slightly, and we can then make some lovely seafood dishes at home.
Yet, go to a french one (Auchan) near Calais and you can fill your boots! That,s what we did years ago, when we went over for a "Booze Cruise" day out.

Interesting fact I heard on LBC, just after Brexit, regarding protecting our fishing rights better, and our fishing fleet numbers.
Here it comes........

Harrods of London, has more employees, and pays more in UK taxation every year, than the entire UK fishing Fleet!
Wow! That shocked me, when I heard that.

Brits tend only to eat cod and we import most of that..BUSBY.

Bloody shame isnt it, North Atlantic Cod, Fantastic Haddock, Mackerel, Pollock,Hake, all out there for the taking, and unless they come as a Ding Ready Meal, most are too scared to cook them.
Its so easy with practice and prep, and I have never had a tough bit of fish yet.

Yes can't beat fresh mackerel all that lovely oily fish, had one yesterday, a couple of minutes to prepare a whole one

We must eat fish or shell fish at least six times a week..Struggle to get fresh fish now as Tesco closed their fish counter last year and Sainsbury's hardly stock anything.. BUSBY.

We are lucky as near us in Camberley there is a (Goldmine) Fresh Fish Shop. They deal with a Cornish fisherman who delivers Fresh Prawns, Lobster,Crabs, Pollock etc.
There was a recent BBC documentary on him, making more money by cutting out the middle men, and delivering each days catch directly straight to the shop in Camberley.
I often see cues of people mainly well healed mature types, standing outside the shop, from 7/8AM.
It always makes me smile when I hear the shop assistants say to a customer, Sorry, you cannot just swipe your card for that amount, you will have to put your PIN in.

My friend’s husband is a fisherman out of Girvan. He has been laid off as 90% of the langoustines are exported to the EU and that market has dried up. Which means we can’t get our langoustines either.

It's great that Tam's thread has been resurected as a generic seafood information board. I dunno where he is but I am damn sure he would be proud.
I’m a bit worried....well not really....I see my post saying Chill Out might have been the penultimate post...sure he’s not that thin skinned...he’s probably trapped in his van because a Frenchy parked too close to his habitation door...

Well Tam is having a sabbatical, and the price of Fish is far friendlier than discussions on Scottish V English politics.(y):giggle:
I bet Tam when he reads this will have a few words to say on Fishing Fleets, and the price of Fish;)

I do hope he’s ok. I understand where he’s coming from as I can find the anti-Scottish sentiments and language used about our FM pretty galling to say the least.
I wish we could all be a little kinder ?.

I must say I haven’t seen ANY anti-Scottish sentiments or language used....perhaps I’m not reading enough threads....I’m sure there’s a few jibes or tongue in cheek comments...or even chip on the shoulder stuff but nothing serious I wouldn’t have thought.
