Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

I am registered with DARTSAVE and they pay it for me, then email me to pay within 14 days.
I seriously had to think what that was about for a minute then realised you must have just started reading the thread and it's about the dartford crossing saga in january ?

So anyway on a different note , this feeling I said I've been getting in my chest and lungs , I was mentioning it to mum aswell.

Years ago i worked as a welder ( in my early 20's) ...I used to work for a company called simclar international who were a bit of a cowboy outfit to be honest and have since gone bust , we used to weld galvanised panels for security systems ....the masks they provided were rubbish and basically dust masks so every monday night I used to get a thing we called galvy flu ....I thought this was just a term my fellow workmates used at the time and I've never actually looked it up before now.

It was pretty nasty it gave you the shakes and a cold sweat and you felt like you were breathing through smoke ....an irritating little cough but nothing much more

Most Monday nights I ended up bed feeling lousy

I did that job about 2.5 years before moving on to something different.

The feeling I've been having this last week is exactly the same ....its the first thing i thought of the day it started and mentioned it to mum.

It seems to be early morning and later evening when it gets colder

So I googled galvy flu there just to see and was shocked to find it's actually a well known thing .....if there are any welders or solderers on here you'll likely be familiar with it

I now sincerely hope that it isn't something that's done permanent damage and is only now coming to light ......I think I'll have to get checked out when I'm back in the uk just incase

But how it takes me right back there is uncanny
Yes it used to be drink milk if welding galvanised before starting. On the occasions we had to weld any we'd use fans & if only a small amount I'd hold my breath.

As a precision grinder I was given a pint of milk a day.....?

If your looking for another stop in Belgium, I can recommend Lak de la Gileppe.
Lake, forests, visitor centre with observation tower and restaurant at the top. Great dog walks and the autumn tree colours should be at their best now. If the leaves haven`t fallen of course.
There is a free aire, large level parking and four or five free EHU sockets.
Hope you feeling better soon (y)
Better ask your doctor for a chest xray when you get back.

Took your tip and went there , just walked around the lake ....misread the times to take lol took us 2 hours 33 minutes to complete ....dogs have passed out now and I'm knackered

Got back to van just as the rain starting si that was lucky as now its peeing it down

Gonna flick heating on and have a nap

Internet is rubbish here so can't upload pics at the minute

It's very strange that I have a tablet and a phone , both Samsung both on ee network with full europe usage, 20gb data on each I can use any available network to access internet
Both currently on orange belgium
Tablet has 4g mostly and phone has e for emergency

Hmmm?

And the photos are on the phone so you'll just have to wait

Couldn't get a heat in me and clothes were damp ftom sweating walking round lake despite only being 5° so I had to go have a hot shower
I'm now nice and toasty but have that horrible feeling in my lungs again and this irritating little cough ?

Theres supposed to be free wifi here but neither my phone or tablet can find it sadly so I'll upload pics of lake and trees tomorrow lol I bet you can all hardly wait

You won't sleep tonight

Fortunately I have 57 episodes of nashville downloaded that I'm working my way through so after dinner ( Texas potato wedges and yesterdays left over chorizo pasta ) I'm gonna curl up in bed and watch 3 or 4 before I fall asleep

Keeping the heating on low till then ...sod the gas usage lol
I'm starting to worry about this chest thing ....will be getting a doctor check over when home.

e is for "Edge" next one down from 3G.
Obviously the tablet has a better circuitry & aerial.
I thought h was for next one down from 3g?
Because it occasionally goes to that to trick me in to thinking it's working but nope

Incidentally the tablet is 18 months older than the phone
It's due an upgrade

Didn't try hard enough, can be as low as €0.35.:rofl::rofl:

Visited streppy theiu today and the boat lift , apparently the largest in the world up till 2016 then China built bigger

It's pretty ugly to be honest I liked the old ones better.

Nice walk along the canal though View attachment 344524View attachment 344525View attachment 344526View attachment 344527View attachment 344528View attachment 344529View attachment 344530View attachment 344531View attachment 344532View attachment 344533View attachment 344534View attachment 344535

You probably have the most elegant version a bit closer to home.

So after lunch we walked the 3 or 4 km in to Aachen city , nice cathedral here dates back to 814ad commissioned by charlemagne king of the Frank's, king of the lombards and emperor of Rome.....

They were setting up for the christmas markets so not easy to get good pics of it

Then the rathouse townhall and a few other buildings .....nearly wet myself at the lederhosen shop lol , and drooled at the christmas bakery shop .....no idea what the ducks were about

Loving the photos and those ducks would have been pinched at home I’m sure!! Perhaps it’s a duck protest as they need water!!

Loving the brass model we’ve seen them in places in France with Braille on for blind people to realise just what the building looks like.

So did you treat yourself to some lederhosen and, if so, will you take a selfie? (Asking for a friend, obviously ;) )
Ha ha not a chance I got a few offended.looks from passers by as I was doubled up laughing outside it and taking photo

Ridiculous outfits

I'm getting so fed up with this bloody van these days it is honestly one problem after another with it ....mostly stupid stuff but my patience is running out with it.

The latest thing its started to do....well I say start but its done it a few times now over the last few months. I used the services today I emptied cassette and waste tank but didn't bother filling up as I was still between half and 3/4 tank
Haven't used taps since I drove here and went to use them and once again no water coming out just loads of air ....have to prime all the taps get everything soaked as the water splurts out everywhere as it expels the air ....get it a running fine switch them off and as you sit there you can hear the water running back to the tank

And sure enough switch taps on and it's the same again ....nothing but air

So go through the same thing again .....each time uses about 10-15 litres of water.

3 times I've had to do it now so I've lost half the water I bloody had

Now it's the proper Reich 19 litre pump I have fitted which is supposed to have a non return valve built in but still the water is most definitely returning.

Not to mention that because it's cold I leave the water heater on all the time to stop the boiler dumping but if the water is draining back to the tank its gonna bugger up my boiler

This was a new pump I fitted last year , I still have the old one but they are exactly the same

I'm baffled as to why it does it every do often , most of the time it's okay but seems to be after I've had the van hooked up on electric for some reason.

The waste of water really annoys me

In fact the damm van really annoys me I'm sure its cursed as it's one thing after another with it.
If it keeps going its gonna be getting sold a I'm losing patience with it.

I dont understand where the air is coming from as if there was a leak surely I'd have seen it somewhere
Even if leaking between floors it would drop underneath and there is no sign of any of that.

Once it is finally bled it seems to be okay for days , weeks even then somehow out of the blue it will do it again and takes 2 or 3 times each time to get it to stop

Aaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhbb

Bloody Van's

Could you have a poor joint on pipe between pump and water cap.

Could you have a poor joint on pipe between pump and water cap.
I dont think so ....at least it doesn't look like it , each time it's done this I've removed the pump from the tank and checked and all seems ok it's on with quite tight plastic clips.
I do have a slight split in the actual plastic cap that I've to watch I dont overfill but that shouldn't affect the submersible pump

Sounds like The non return valve might be sticking occasionally , even if there is a leak in the pipe work
it shouldn’t allow the water to run back to the tank

I plan to fit an additional non return valve on the pipework after the pump cap when home but buggered if I know how its doing it
There is a second pipe goes in to the tank which I'm assuming is a return pipe ...but from where I have no idea.

It's done it again just now so no water coming out of taps ...that's 4 times I've bled it in the last 90 minutes
I'm about ready to throw the pump over a hedge

If you’ve still got the old pump, fit that and see if it still does it.

Did they look as daft as all the shop displays and men you see in Scotland ponsing about in skirts?
I hasten to add I don't really mean that!
I think men in full Highland Dress can and often do look magnificent, but there are others who IMO look right pillocks. BUT I don't believe one should mock others culture or national costumes.:)

If you’ve still got the old pump, fit that and see if it still does it.
The old pump had issues too hence me changing it . I'm gonna remove it in the morning try and glue the crack in the filler cap and refit with a new bit hose see if that makes a difference

If I go near it again tonight I'm gonna blow a gasket

That is the overflow/vent pipe it will exit under the van.

You could take the non return valve of the old pump & fit to the new one. A pig to get off but they do come off.
