Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

Probably a viral infection- glad you’re feeling better. The lesson here is to seek help at the pharmacy before you feel too bad - you have the dogs to think about! No good being brave for days, then getting really ill, when you may have been able to prevent the decline with a bit of advice! Lecture over! ?

So who is near Norwich? I have a little favour to ask if anyone lives around Norwich and could collect something for me and hold on to it till around 3rd or 4th December .

I guess that should be December.
Ah yes well spotted ive changed that lol

I've had a reply back from ian so hopefully he can sort it out for me.
I'd originally planned to be back and collecting it on route but obviously been delayed and dont think the seller would keep it for 4 weeks for me.

Massive firework display going on here ...well I can hear it but cant actually see it which is strange.

I thought it was guy fawkes and then thought hang on why would belgium be celebrating guy fawkes

So not sure what it is but about 25 minutes in now and sounds like the blitz

Yes more on that in a minute as I've discovered my grandfathers brother is buried in loos memorial near lille so I might make a detour for my mum.
So yeah I had sent my mum the pics earlier of the plaque at the bridge etc and she replied with " I wish I knew where loos was in France " her uncle my grandfathers brother was killed in france in 1915 and is buried there at loos memorial. All she knew was his name richard james newton and that he was from Kelso, so I did a search and yes he is buried there. It's near lille which is a pain as I was there just a few days ago but I thought I might go and find his grave and get a picture for mum. Hes apparently named on a memorial in his home town of Kelso too which my mums visited before but obviously not seen his grave in france.

Still not 100% unfortunately, all last night and most of this morning felt like I was being hugged by a bear ....really tight chest and feel like I'm breathing through a wet rag or smoke or something:(
But been put a few walks today hoping it's just muscle from heaving a few days back.

Visited streppy theiu today and the boat lift , apparently the largest in the world up till 2016 then China built bigger

It's pretty ugly to be honest I liked the old ones better.

Nice walk along the canal though

Yeah the new one is impressive in lots capabilities but lacks any charm .

Bloody noisy when it gets going too I may have parked in the wrong place lol

So where do you recomend next ?
I'm not sure I want the expense or the driving if going in to Germany so probably just do a sort of circle of Belgium returning to calais via coastal areas , I need a vet again around 25th 26th but otherwise flexible enough , I planned to include Brussels, bruge and ghent and possibly Antwerp .
Will save Germany for a later date when I finally do get to Croatia

This is a nice stop if you can bear to cough up 4 euros. Good for dog walking and there is a bar/restaurant at the marina which is dog friendly.

Since it was dry I then decided to fit my front brake pads as I'm getting tired of worrying how worn they were ( sensor was broken ) I've checked them a few times over the last year and when I replaced the brake discs back in April they still had about 6 or 7mm left so I left them alone , well I couldn't believe that they still had about 4 or 5 mm on them but decided as I already had the new pads and I had one wheel off I'd just replace them and be done with it. At least I know they are done now so can cross them off the long list of repairs I have to do when back in blighty
I was knackered when finished.....a Job I normally find very easy really buggered me up today....still not feeling right.

Anyway once done I drove to dinant which according to Google is no 9 on the 10 best places to visit in belgium lol ....going from 1 being the best to 10 the least.

So I've just arrived ....I'm going to have some lunch and possibly a nap lol

And then decide if I'll go for a hike up to the citadel today or tomorrow morning

I see you walked up to the upper canal, we did that, wasn't worth the effort was it.

Better parking up by the Citidal at Dinant.

Yes it was a bit of a hike lol it's not the prettiest boat lift ...the falkirk wheel is definitely nicer.... but a nice view back over the canal and dogs liked the hike.

I saw that parking but I wanted to get a few pics of the cathedral etc from down here though I'll probably go to the other carpark also

That's of course if I can get out as some belgian asshole has blocked me in

Hes gonna get a mouthful when he returns to his car

So anyway on a different note , this feeling I said I've been getting in my chest and lungs , I was mentioning it to mum aswell.

Years ago i worked as a welder ( in my early 20's) ...I used to work for a company called simclar international who were a bit of a cowboy outfit to be honest and have since gone bust , we used to weld galvanised panels for security systems ....the masks they provided were rubbish and basically dust masks so every monday night I used to get a thing we called galvy flu ....I thought this was just a term my fellow workmates used at the time and I've never actually looked it up before now.

It was pretty nasty it gave you the shakes and a cold sweat and you felt like you were breathing through smoke ....an irritating little cough but nothing much more

Most Monday nights I ended up bed feeling lousy

I did that job about 2.5 years before moving on to something different.

The feeling I've been having this last week is exactly the same ....its the first thing i thought of the day it started and mentioned it to mum.

It seems to be early morning and later evening when it gets colder

So I googled galvy flu there just to see and was shocked to find it's actually a well known thing .....if there are any welders or solderers on here you'll likely be familiar with it

I now sincerely hope that it isn't something that's done permanent damage and is only now coming to light ......I think I'll have to get checked out when I'm back in the uk just incase

But how it takes me right back there is uncanny
