Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

Tam so glad that you and the dogs weren’t hurt in the attack.
We went up in February and I found the apes very scarey indeed , we were lucky and escaped to the cafe , I’m sorry you couldn’t.

You mate sounds like a right Jessie and running off like that was awful behaviour. Sounds like he wanted a cheap weeks holiday in ‘ megaruf’
Boozing all and night and sleeping all day not seeing the beauty of real Spain.

Carry on your trip and keep posting please , as I’m starting chemo soon I need all the lovely doggy pics and veiws even more!!
Take care

I used to think I am very opinionated, but now I realise I’m only a beginner! I used to think I am very judgemental but now I realise I’m pretty easy going on most things.
My advice to anyone on here who gets upset by other people’s strange comments or actions is:
1. Press the ignore button, Or,
2. Learn to let it wash over you, have a giggle and move on.
Life is too short to get in a stew over most crap that happens.
Anyone on here can call me whatever they like.......I call myself names on a regular basis, but it troubles me not one jot. Mind you it’s taken me over 60 years to get to this tranquil place!
:D(y)

Oh,and Tam......please keep posting.Your pics and story of your travels are generally very good and interesting, but try not to get side-tracked by others.:)

If this is aimed at me, don't understand why everyone is so uptight , I also like his travel posts , and welcome many more , I only commented on his problem guest because it didn't look anything to get ett up about to me, if they are true friends .

If he was a real mate I am surprised he was not following Tam's thread all through. In which case he should have known exactly what to expect.

Maybe there was something more personal, but I do not want to know.

The point is Charley I haven't posted what the end cause was to the fallout....I stated in the first post I made that I wasn't going in to full details and I'm still not.

The stuff I did say was the build up in attitude over the 4 days he was here and ultimately what caused the torrent of abuse he went in to on his last night here. Friends don't say that stuff and it's stuff I can't and won't forget. Even after that I still did not tell him he had to leave...me being the fool I am would have allowed him to stay and still shown him around his last few days.

It was 100% his decision to leave and I drove him the 100 and odd km back up to the airport.

Most folk that follow the thread respected that ....the little information I did reveal was only after the probing of people like yourself that don't accept or realise the seriousness of the situation and somehow made it out like he's been hard done by etc.

The drop of water etc you are referring to is not the most important points ....But I was pissed off at the water pouring under my units etc because he wouldn't listen when told how to use the van properly....I've a damaged fridge door , a leaking tap and possibly other issues I've not found yet.

I had no desire to list the whole damm incident on here I only mentioned it originally to explain why I would be returning from gibralter to Malaga so suddenly.

Yes he was a friend .....But I've only known him around 2.5 years...he came over last year and was entirely different from how he was this year.

It's done and I won't be keeping up the friendship ...that upsets me but I don't need folk having a pop on here aswell.

Maybe one day I'll get to that place...who knows.

I can't help I have the personality that lets things get to me ...I generally try to see the best in folk...I'm usually on the side of the underdog and if I can help someone out I do.

I just hate being taken for granted or made a fool out of when I'm trying to be the good guy.

I'm not sure I buy it Charley...you always say no offence meant but I'm pretty sure you know when your being offensive.

It's like when people say " I'm not being racist but " and then say something completely racist.

I checked the nature reserves website before walking up to the rock ...There was no mention of dogs

I read over 20 reviews on TripAdvisor...4 other people mentioned dogs only saying they weren't allowed in the cafe restaurant and the cable car that was it ....nothing about monkeys attacking them.

I then specifically asked the guy while paying the €7 each fee to walk up the rock and was told just be careful keep them on a leash...he strongly advised against visiting the apes den but said the rest was fine 80% of time the monkeys didn't pay attention to the dogs ...

If he hadn't said that I wouldn't have taken them in.

On the way up I passed a guy with a bill terrier walking down...and we also saw a golden retriever with an older couple heading to st Michael's cave..

Many people who like walking have dogs and they take them everywhere , I don't let them off leads where there are animals because it's normally the dog who is the risk to the animal and not the other way around.

They may not be the best trained dogs in the world but I teach them not to chase bark or indeed be afraid of other animals as do many folk.

In Scotland you can walk through any farmers field as long as you respect the land and believe me loads of people walk through fields of cows and sheep with dogs with zero issues.
And one or two get gored or trampled to death in fields with cattle.Dogs and cows with calves do not mix.BUSBY.

Who would have thought taking a walk up a rock with someone else and two dogs could generate so much interest ::bigsmile:
Northernraider Looks like you might have to change your two for a couple of these

Ok sorry to have upset you so much but from your first post of the event I was only making a light-hearted comment and didn't expect any other comment on it necessary and definitely wasn't having a pop as you say .

I wouldn't go anywhere that had monkeys, can't stand them. They may be close relatives but it must be on SWMBOs side.
I like monkeys ...and I missed not going to see them last year, I would go up there to see them again just not with the dogs now I know how they react

Tam, you're obviously a sensitive guy and caring too and we love you for that. Being on your own it's easy to dwell on the negatives and think that people are ganging up on you. That simply isn't true. There are many, many people on this forum who read your posts and enjoy them very much. Don't let the minority stop you from sharing your adventures with us.
One piece of advice, if that's OK, is
"Don't let the b###ers grind you down."
Happy onward travels and we look forward to hearing more about them.

Anyway he's dropped at the airport I have my brake pads and I'm now sat along the beach front at torremolinos

Its just aswell I like it here I've lost count how many times I've been here now

Blimey a lots happened on this catch up Tam, :Eeek: glad it's a happy ending, (y) and to be honest I would have done the same, best off without him. :pop:
Safe journey. :D2 Bob.

This may appear an odd place for a first post but I've been a long time lurker and have followed both of Tams threads with much interest. I'll subscribe shortly and introduce myself formally.

Now I accept what I'm going to say will be considered contentious (by some) but so be it. Whilst I'm sure Tam is more than capable of looking after himself some of you need to take a step back and stop sniping. The guy's posted his travels, experiences and photos for over a year providing entertainment for many, that ain't easy, yet at any given opportunity there's a select few (you know who you are) that regularly jump on a bandwagon of trying to discredit the guy whenever there's the slightest opportunity - and that's low.

Throwaway name-calling when people are down is not clever nor 'funny' even if it amuses you. Questioning their integrity when they've had a personal issue to which you weren't party is arrogant, unnecessary and demonstrates a lack of understanding. There's even been questionable remarks about his responsibility to the dogs which is frankly ridiculous.

My apologies Tam, if I've stepped on your toes by making the above comments but I feel your good and genuine nature is too often taken advantage of by those that enjoy posting any old nonsense just to get a rise or kick for self pleasure - such is the way with some people.

Keep up the good work my friend ?

The macaques are most definately not confined to the Upper Rock.
Visiting my mother in the Residential Home in Gib sometimes requires us to walk right past a macaque or two on a narrow pathway. Strictly no eye contact, by looking unconcerned and at a distant scene away from their position has kept us safe...thus far! Still nervy though.
Gibraltar is full of warning signs when in the vicinity of the macaques.

You will not believe the idiotic behaviour of some people and the resultant consequences after these particular visitors have left, when other unsuspecting (fully-respecting) visitors are then faced with agitated, nervous and frightened macaques who turn aggressive.

They do seem to integrate fairly well alongside humans - provided, that is, that respect is shown toward them.

I stayed in the Rock Hotel on many occasions and the macaques often wandered around the place. I only had them actually in my room once (they'd opened a sliding window to get in) but I often saw them on the terraces and inside the hotel itself. The staff good humouredly chased them out only for the apes to saunter back in once the coast was clear! I thought they were charming creatures.

When I chased the room-raiding one out he bared his teeth at me... I certainly wouldn't wan't to get bitten by them. Having said that he was obviously more frightened of my teeth when I, instinctively, bared mine back at him because he legged it! Had he not done so I'd have been out the door pronto.

Afterwards, on thinking through what had happened, I found it interesting that my immediate response to his baring his teeth at me was to do the same back to him. At the time my adrenalin was pumping and I reacted totally instinctively. Animal instinct is obviously just below the surface - at least in certain situations.

Sod it

I really wish sometimes Jim would introduce a block button so you could simply avoid certain people.
It would save so much aggro in the long run ...But I don't really need the added grief so I'm giving up.
You can avoid comments from other FUNSTERS by simply just not posting. It is the only way to avoid people who disagree with you but is not that the whole point of a FORUM..BUSBY.

I don't know about monkeys but I do know a 5 stone Chimp in a rage is far stronger than any human..BUSBY.

I'm not so sure. There's only one way to find out for certain......

....Fight, fight, fight!
Think I read it in Guiness Book of Records..something about a female Chimp in a strip and they let her grab a dynometer through the bars and with one arm she recorded something like 550 lbs..BUSBY.
