We are in monteville. A small aire uncle lenny recommended, a complete shit to get to as the first 2 roads the satnav tried to take me had 2.6m height limits on railway bridges ...but 3rd time lucky we got here.

The good news is I seem to have fixed the van problem , not only do I get more power on hills , no eml light but the rattling noise I was getting that I put down to the thrust bearing has gone and so has the shuddering I was getting in first and reverse gear ...its like a different van...definitely worth £36k now

That's great news Tam! ref the van! I hope your mpg improves dramatically which it should, I took a spin for some shopping in the jeep earlier and was getting 24mpg and it's a P400! lol

Probably less than your odometer reading a whole round '000 miles when you turn off the engine. But, since you've experienced a couple of unlikely events recently, have you considered buying a lottery ticket? After all, these things do seem to come along in threes.

When you have 5 minutes i would get under & give it another spray & work it back & forward with a shifter adjusted to the size of the arm.

Yes I plan to as I suspect it still is not opening fully as I only turned it back and forth a little bit. But a big improvement.

Non eventful really , very calm and I slept about 2 hours of it , watched suffragette and had lunch the rest of the time. No dog passport or chip checks. No van check or fridge, gas etc. Just straight on through , in dieppe just one 2 questions where are you going , I said Spain, he asked if I lived there I said no not yet and he stamped passport that was that. And straight down to monville

Does that mean you only have 90 days allowance now in Europe? We talked about previously, The stamped passport....

Yeah which is why I'm hoping to go to Morocco for a month or 6 weeks .


If I go around 15th January till end of February I'll have 5 weeks shengen time left to come back through Spain and France march/April

That's the stupidest fecking rule, can't see why they just can't have another common travel area, it's there for Ireland and we're in the EU so why not extend it to the whole UK and Europe, typical EU knobs! Lol

Really need to get a look at this turbo waste gate too and see if it's the issue. It's hell driving this when you come to any incline , I can be sitting at 70 on the motorway on the flat , come to a hill and it slows right down to 40 at times , dropping a gear doesn't help as it seems to just die complete if you then try to switch back up , dip the clutch and the engine will rev no probs but it just won't take the load , its like its misfiring. Coasts along no probs otherwise , but hills are teeth clenching . I was in 3rd gear and the crawler lane coming up one hill in Wales there .

Tam like I said to you before that's the exact same issue I had and as soon has I got the waste gate cleaned it was like new again. I sure it's yours and as soon as you get that done it will be fine.

Tam like I said to you before that's the exact same issue I had and as soon has I got the waste gate cleaned it was like new again. I sure it's yours and as soon as you get that done it will be fine.

I did it yesterday

It has made a big difference and stopped the eml illuminating, but I'm going to go back under and give it a further spray with wd40 and another wiggle as it may still not be opening fully. But a lot better than it was. The van sat around a lot with the previous owners so probably just seized up from not getting used.

Here's a pic of the turbo unit

The shiny silver bit that looks like a barrel is the waste gate actuator. There's a thin rod comes out of it and connects to the waste gate which is a flap inside the rusty bit. The arrow points to the little lever that opens and closes the flap. When the turbo kicks in to increase power it needs to dump the air waste but if the flap sticks it can't and it causes the problem I was having. It's a common fault on them


So the little lever that turns the flap is what I sprayed and wiggled. They are also bad for the rivet that holds the rod on to that flap breaking off. Thankfully mine looks like it has been replaced previously so it's not as rusty looking as the one in this photo

Have you decided your route to Spain yet Tam? From where you are we normally go straight south, Orleans, Clermont, Narbonne but have also taken the west side too, Bordeaux direction but never really thought if there's much in it distance wise...

If he keeps to the plan we discussed yesterday that's the way he is going but knowing Tam he could end up anywhere going anyway.

Yeah that was always my sort of route ,dieppe to montpellier then follow coast. So I'm still sort of doing that. Heading towards Clermont-Ferrand today

I've about 220-240 miles planned for today , we are back to rain all day today anyway so just having breakfast and we'll have a quick walk around the duck pond and head off

Spray grease which I'll spray a little of but it will likely just burn off as that is the exhaust there too so it gets quite hot

Stopped for lunch , it took me about half an hour to get out that village this morning as my bloody satnav still had an obsession with that 2.6m bridge. I drove way out the village trying to avoid it and the bloody satnav brought me back to the same point . Its crap when you don't have a co pilot.

Anyway I'm not going to get to my next stop till around 5pm ... roads are quiet and most have been dual carriageway or motorway so making good progress but we did start off late. Think it was about 11am when we left . Will have to do better tomorrow morning lol.

So a quick lunch and we will be off again. Rain hasn't stopped all morning, I think I got a camera flash too on one of those 110km but 90km for trucks and caravans. Never said motorhomes lol but will see if anything turns up.

Van going a lot lot better but definitely feel it's still sticking a little bit as you can hear and feel it. So when I get another dry day I'll have another look , no warning light now though so just shows you it can be sticking a little and there's nothing to tell you it is

I've come out the 4 cars that were in the carpark have gone and they have locked me in the fecking carpark ... there's a big gate across the exit , the shop is now closed and there's no one about
