Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Left ballynakill around 10am , we followed the sky road to clifden Town with a walk and a look at clifden Castle ruin on the way.

It's been dull but dry all day thankfully so we then went to ballinboy and parked there to visit marconis old wireless station site and the landing site of the first Atlantic crossing by Alcock and brown. Its a 5km walk around the ruins so good for the dogs .

So the buildings from marconis Station have almost gone to be honest, just foundations and not really worthy of photos ,so the pics are mainly the information boards dotted around that show how it looked and functioned, and a bit of info on the Atlantic flight too. And some 4 legged neighbours.

And after there we have driven down to bunowen Bay ballyconneely and we are parked up at the pier and the connemara smokehouse, we will stay tonight , its lashing down now and blowing a bit of a gale so I'm hoping it gets calmer rather than wilder as we are quite exposed. But a nice bay for morning walkies. Might have to put the heating on the night for a bit .. its a bit chilly

It's to be blowy enough tonight Tam, Just don't leave anything out lol, pity you hadn't a stove on board as that turf looks ready for burning lol
There's loads of wild Connemara ponies but mostly up in the mountains, them ones in the photos look like they belong to someone but there's lots of wild ones about too

Aye I was thinking that myself with the turf it is nice and dry

Too wild at the coast, was starting to get hit by flying debri so I had to move .. unfortunately the next 4 places I went to had no motorhome signs everywhere so I'm inland a bit at a picnic spot by a river and forest . No wind whatsoever thankfully.

You’ll come across several places with a link to Marconi. He certainly got about.
I quite like the rusty signposts, except, being vertical they’re not easy to read at a glance.

Probably a wise move as it's to get fairly windy in the wee hours tonight, glad you got somewhere quieter, and sure you've always got Ashford Castle Hotel not too far away if your stuck! Lol

Yes, great photos Tam! It must take a lot of your time - thank you!

Are you finding it easy to fill with fresh and get rid of grey/black water?

This is my photo from the Vatican Gardens

345 Vatican Gardens [Marconi's Original Radio Station].JPG

Guglielmo Marconi is considered to be the inventor of radio, and in 1909 he shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with Karl Ferdinand Braun “in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy.”

A Catholic, Marconi agreed to erect the first radio tower inside the walls of Vatican Gardens at no charge.

I've got a leak , not a new leak but a historic one that bodge it bill has stuck chewing gum ( that's what it looks like ) over on the side seal that runs along the roof. It's obviously not fixed the issue so today's mission is to attempt to fix that ( permanently preferred but if not at least temporary. In between showers cause it always feckin rains when you really need it not to

Hi Tam, today is meant to be a good day. How did you get on last night with the wind, we were parked up on top of a cliff over looking a bay, at 2am I thought the roof was coming off the van so we drove back to the local town and parked up in a super u carpark. We are now parked up at harbour beach dunes and salt marsh, lovely bay for walking Mollie

Yeah we were originally by the coast at a lovely bay but I knew around 5pm it was only going to get worse so we moved inland to Cloonbeg. Nice wee spot at a forest and river so we had shelter from the wind . Its mostly dry today but showers and those are heavy showers . But it stayed off long enough for me to throw some sika on a leaky join . Hopefully that won't give me any more trouble for a bit. I've just stopped for lunch just south of mams Cross which I thought was a town but its just a hotel and petrol station .

Tam once you get down to southern Spain and possibly Morocco you'll not know what to do with yourself after all your running repairs and being battered and blown have way around Ireland... its never boring 🤣

I'll hopefully then be just enjoying the warmer weather , bit of sunbathing , maybe a swim lol

It's certainly never boring being a fulltimer but some of the worries I could do without. Doesn't matter what van I get or how much I prepare there is always something and it's generally the same bloody faults with every van

It served a purpose and was really quiet overnight, the french hymer behind was changing 2 front wheels this morning while I was up a ladder with a tube of sikaflex , anyone who drove past and there was a few must have thought the pie keys had moved in .

Anyway we then left there drove to mams cross which I thought was a town but just appeared to be a large hotel and a petrol station ...turned right and headed back towards the coast , found this little spot on an old pier in the tiny village of muckinagh, so I'm going to stay here tonight , nice views and it's dead quiet , we had a walk through the village which consists of just 8 houses and nothing else , met a few ponies on the way , 4 were just roaming the roadside. The wee black one is gorgeous and he came for nose rubs and neck pets ...kept nudging me when I stopped...if I had a bigger van 😁🤣

Had another look on the roof and the bit I've sealed seems to have taken , I was a bit worried as very hard to keep the roof dry in showers . So I'm hoping that has stopped the leak , but the bit inside the cupboard is still quite moist so will have to wait till that dries out before I know if it's properly sealed or not.

Between bodgit bill and I'm guessing a previous dealership , one of them has smeared clear silicone down both sides of the roof on this van covering what was originally a thin black rubber seal . So ideally I need to clean that all off later and will run a new bead of sikaflex along it both sides instead . But for now I just don't want any more water getting in.

The actual proper name of this wee place I'm at is muckanaghederdauhaulia but I challenge anyone to pronounce that .

These 2 boats were level when I first arrived and my money was on the white one sinking as it got lower in the water all evening . But this morning it's recovered and the blue one has sunk 🤣

Anither wee harbour for lunch and walkies, a German motorhome parked here when I arrived seems to be a solo traveller. A very large and surprisingly young guy only looks late 20's . He was sat outside with a coffee when I arrived. I said Guten tag and gave a wave ..he sort of grunted and went in his van lol ....it must be me 🤷‍♂️🤣. Anyway he's sat in there with all the blinds completely closed since lol ...even the cab ones .

We will have another wee wander in the other direction after lunch but will likely move along to spiddal pier after that. I'm hoping if it's a nice spot to stay there the next 2 nights . Galway city itself doesn't look very motorhome friendly according to park4night so there's a chance I won't be able to stay over there. But will see.

You should be able to park in Galway docks (might be called a marina now lol) around 6 euros for 24 hours

I've seen that one and I'm going to have a look but latest p4n reviews said its a building site at present so not much room for bigger vans. I've had a few tip offs of street parking too so I will check it out after spiddal.
