Tam n pups winter trip 2022

It is so stressful trying to sell and clear out all the stuff I had stored at mums. I have so many things I needed to keep or that I would have used someday. And selling things has become really hard this year , no one wants to pay money for anything they want things for next to nothing 😔. But I'm running out of time and still have so much to do.

I think you have chosen a difficult lifestyle that has many challenges, but is also offering massive freedom. When we were full timing I would get incredibly stressed with things like storage, or trouble with the van, but the fact is, those are the things you have to put up with to be free of a house! In the end, for us , it was a hard lifestyle, & we bought a house & now travel from there. At its best, though, you couldn’t beat it! You are finding things hard now because of your mum. Bite the bullet, pay for storage & go on your travels. You can decide about stuff later. Also consider getting ahead of the depression, either with medication, or with talking therapy or both. Paul did his therapy on the road via teams last year, & it really helped him. Sending a hug!

Put in storage Tam then when you come back from your travels you can sort out at your own time. 👍
The storage costs more than the monetary value of the things I want to store that's the problem . I have somethings going to my brothers and some going to my sisters but limited what I can keep . Things like tools etc neither of them have the outdoor space to keep them . I just have too much stuff. I bought a load of rugs n throws in morroco last year too that I've had on ebay for weeks just trying to get my money back for them but no decent offers . It's just frustrating but I'm taking another load of stuff to the tip just now

Stuff is never worth the storage costs, but sometimes it’s worth it to you? Also, how much for peace of mind at this difficult time?

What about a charity shop

What about a charity shop
Yeah they're getting plenty , other stuff I'd like to sell.

The stuff going to the tip is stuff charity shops won't take. Camper tables, caravan steps , ramps for lifting the car etc . No one buying them so just having to dump stuff.

I leave here in less than a fortnight and I've so much to get sorted

Northernraider Tam - have you put a list on here? Sury there will be bits that others would buy/bid for?
I think the distance is probably the biggest problem with putting it on here .

Same with mum's stuff , whole house to clear and some lovely stuff but it's a fulltime job listing it all lol

Don't offload anything in a rush, have no regrets Tam x

Try a few motor/motorhome items - you may be surprised?

What are the car ramps you have?

Get a quote from a “Reputable Auction House” I did this at the request of executors when my neighbour died. It worked out well .

They're just a set of drive on ramps .

Gumtree freebies, saves stuff going to landfill.

For the stuff that the charity shops don't want, but is too good for the tip, have you tried www.freecycle.org ? Just list it on their free website and people who want it contact you via email and you can arrange for them to collect it. No money changes hands and it costs nothing to join Freecycle. I can't remember where you are based, Tam, but I see there is a Freecycle group in West Fife.

When we sold up in 2013, everything that didn't fit in the van or caravan was sold or given away, important stuff is in a couple of plastic boxes in our daughter's loft. 😁

Friends that went fulltime in 2009 had things in storage until he died last year then most was dumped. 🙄

We purchased this apartment furnished in 2015 and can't believe how much cr@p we have collected since. 😯😁 Bob.

Yep I will never accumulate this much stuff ever again.

I was just thinking how stressful it is clearing everything out so quickly. It's like your whole life is just being dismantled. Is there any way you could take it slower for the next few weeks?
I know you want to get away asap but it sounds like a horrible task.

My van is already suffering from severe condensation, I just want out of here to be honest.

When we went full time we sold our 5 bedroom house & Paul didn’t want to clear it in case the sale fell through. We cleared it & sold two cars in a week, including my late mums granny flat that I had been avoiding for months! Freecycle worked for us, & although it was incredibly stressful at the time, I didn’t get chance to agonise over every pan, chair, lamp or picture, so in a way it made it easier!

My mums stuff isn't so bad there will be at least another 6-8 weeks for that to be sorted. It's my own stuff that I had stored here that I'm having issues with. There is stuff I kept because it had value to me and I didn't want to get rid of it. Selling it isn't too bad as at least then I can use the money for other things . But giving it all away is hard. I ain't made of money , most things I was selling cheap anyway but a lot of folk are just chancers these days. I'm a haggler myself but I've never been as cheeky as to offer £5 for something advertised for £40 etc which is what I've been getting the last week or so. So in my mind I just think no if they're that cheeky ill leave them to pay the new price and I'll just dispose of it.

I know you don’t do Facebook but maybe worth it just to use market place

Yeah it's just the having to create an account etc to access it , and then of course it's a new account so many folk wouldn't trust it.

I'll get there . I've another 10 days or so before I really have to get rid so ill persevere sorting through it. I'm putting the car up for sale after this weekend so I've a chance to get it sold before I really have to .

When we went full time we had an 'open house' sale. Just advertised it locally and everything went - even very old tat. It was a relief because we had the ferry booked for a few days later for our first trip abroad. Happy days.

Marketplace is dreadful, charity is the way to go, and free adverts on local sites, stuff is worth next to nothing when you need to sell, only expensive when you need to buy it, I packed everything in big boxes for charity, no pick and choose, they where happy to take it as there was some very valuable stuff amongst the stuff they had to dispose off 👍

When we stopped full timing we moved in to a small one bedroom house which seemed big enough at the time - even had rooms with doors which were a novelty for a while. We had to get everything = from chairs to beds to cutlery and crockery. So glad we hadn't put everything in storage because apart from cutlery etc nothing would have fit. Could do with an extra room now but we've been as careful about what we buy as we are in the motorhome e.g. one t shirt in and one t shirt out. Still accumulated stuff but it's stuff we want like CDs, my craft stuff.
