Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Put a clothes peg on the button so you can't knock it down so easily or at least it would make you aware before you slam the door.
Never done it with the front doors before ..not even sure how I managed it. But the hab door is a pain . I've always to make sure I've the keys on me when I go out that one.

It's weird but it's almost like any problems I've had previously with other vans has followed me on to this one . All these stupid little faults cropping up now that I'm on the bleeding road.

Knowing what people do in life is important for people seeking a relation ship, however you need to explain your life style, it might not appeal to lots of people but there will be people who are looking just for what you stand for in life, and yes forget about tinder for any serious relationships , it’s for other purposes , give Match a go, much better, but just realise that your nomadic lifestyle doesn’t make dating easy, it might attract people but only after they have fallen in love with you, that takes time and isn’t easy when you are constantly on the road, but there is a business idea there, start a dating site specifically for full timers, thank me later but don’t forget my 25% share of the dating site generated income please, it all goes towards the Morelo fund😇
I'm not seeking a relationship online , I'm looking for dates , conversation etc and if then there's the slightest connection see what happens. I personally couldn't care less what someone does for a living, how much they earn , what house they have or don't have etc . .. none of it should really matter

Especially not for a date over coffee or a beer. One step at a time is my motto.

Some of these folk are sat behind screens picking out baby names before they even meet someone . It's ridiculous.

And it's not just the women lol

To be honest how you live your life should not bother genuine people. I know for a fact if someone met you, liked you then fell in love with you they would live in a tent on a dirty boggy field with you AND your dogs!! That's what I would do if I fell in love with someone, then maybe later talk about moving into a building:giggle:

Gina.
I think a lot of men fall in love , marry and live in a house , they then fall out of love and finish up living in a tent with the wife living in the house.

This is a bloody strange country I'll tell ye. I know both Scotland and England are getting bad too but this takes the biscuit.

So it's only 10.30 and already this morning I've had 2 conversations with fools.

So first off I was on morning walk with dogs around Newport....both ela and milo had done poos so I had 2 poo bags with me ...we were walking along towards the bridge and there's a little park at the end with grass and benches and the only bin in the town in the middle of it ...there's a guy sweeping the leaves up ...assuming it's a council worker . Anyway I walks in to the park ignoring the no dogs allowed sign to put the bags in the bin ...heehaw in the high viz Says " hey fella did ya not see the sign? There's no dogs allowed in here" I said I saw it and ignored it , they are on the leads , they are doing no harm and I need the only bin in the town " so he says , " yer meant to take it home wit ya" ..." oh I said that's a good idea ..so I'll just carry 5 or 6 bags a day of shite around with me for 6 months till I'm back home shall I?" " look tell yer boss the lack of bins in this country is a joke , and if you put as much effort in to providing services as you do putting up useless stupid signs tourists might feel more welcome"

Feckin eedjit.

We left Newport and headed to westport , im parked in lidl carpark as I need to grab a few things , so this nutter comes in with an audi....he can't park for toffee so takes 4 attempts to park right next to my van in a half empty carpark ...note my van is parked in a proper space with the rear over a very wide island and on the end spot in a row so it's not causing any obstruction. He about trips over himself trying to get out the car and over to me and says " hey your not supposed to bring vehicles that size in here " I said " wheres the sign?" He says " there isn't one but if you're too thick to know it" I said " watch yer mouth bud as you're obviously the one lacking skill the time you took to park that car , people in campervans do need to eat to and that means parking in supermarkets "

He replies " that's what campsites are for "

At that point I was going to argue the point with him but decided there's a reason we had all those Scotsman English man Irish man jokes and really I'd be wasting my time .

I can't say I find Ireland motorhome friendly at all to be honest. I'm hoping by the end of the trip I might feel better and have some places I'd like to come back to one day , but it seems unless you have a vw sized camper you're not really welcome. And it's quite sad.

We found it very welcoming all the people friendly but we never went that far north in the van.
I think you will find them a lot friendlier when you get further south.

You get idiots everywhere Tam. I've not taken the van to Ireland but I've been a few times on a motorbike, never had any problems. Did proper wild camping a few times in my youth, pitched up in a field with the sheep overlooking the sea up in Donegal - bit cheeky really, didn't ask anyone - farmer turned up and just had a friendly chat and wished me well. Another time next to the side of a lake when a campsite I'd planned to stop at was shut, another time inside a forestry campsite that was shut - never any problems.

The old folks who live behind my house go off to Spain every winter, my driveway gets a bit busy so I use theirs if they are away, with their permission - they quite like it, makes the house look occupied. I parked my van there, with their knowledge, and they got a snotty anonymous letter from one of their neighbours complaining about it! My van is an ordinary white coachbuilt, nothing unusual, perfectly presentable. You get eejits everywhere.

I find anyone I meet when away from the van is fine , it's whenever they know you're that motorhomer

Did you hear any more from those other MH'ers about the loony with a shotgun?

Ach I've about had enough of this .

We parked down at the quayside in a carpark that says no overnight parking from 10pm till 6am . We parked here at 12pm ... the height barrier was open, we've went a walk around westport house , came back and some merchant has locked me in . There's no sign to say who to contact or anything and I've asked 2 guys working on boats and they know nothing . There are 2 other guys working a digger further along that said they will try to find out for me and agree its ridiculous to close the gate once I'm in here.

It's a bloody joke

Do you have any bolt cutters in the van. You’re not having much fun mate. Get a few pints of the black stuff in you. 👍🥃

Well that was another feckin eedjit, so about 40 minutes after I spoke with the 2 guys at the digger a man in a wee red van drives up and gets out to unlock the barrier, so I drove over to it . He comes over to the side window and says yer not meant to be In here , I said well there's nothing to say that mate ...I saw the sign saying no overnight etc but I wasn't planning to stay overnight anyway...we parked here as all the other carparks are too small and the barrier was open , he says it doesn't matter you're not meant to park here and I could have just left it locked. I said yeah you could have left it locked all the time then I wouldn't have been in there in the first place but you didn't and there's no signs , you obviously saw the van there when you locked it . He said yeah I did that's why I locked it . I said well you're lucky I didn't just stay overnight then ain't ya and cut yer padlock off in the morning before I left.

It's OK to have restrictions buddy but being a dick just for the sake of it is exactly that...

So anyway I got out ...and the next 5 parking places I tried in an attempt to walk this croagh Patrick mountain failed due to them being too small or having barriers , the last one I had driven down a very narrow lane to it only to find a van already there and nowhere to turn around so I had to reverse half way back up the wee road till I found a driveway to swing in to with the owners permission as he was in the garden , he actually had a wee laugh about it saying I wasn't the first van to go down there and have to back up .

So anyway after those failed attempts I'm at a wee harbour at old head beach in louisburgh. Its actually a lovely wee spot with great views and a nice beach for doggy walks , so I might just have 2 nights here . There are 2 other campers here from England ..young couples with surf boards etc .

I'll upload the pics of today in a bit once I've resized them

No but I do have an angle grinder so I'd have been cutting the lock of later had he not turned up

It's a bloody joke

Just saw it mentioned on Motorhomecraic forum!
Louis burg is lovely.

We were in the South of Ireland 4 years ago. It is definitely not motorhome friendly. We found very few lay-bys, lots of height barriers and no over nighting signs. We were told to invite the signs as they were intended for the tinkers. Nobody would bother a British re. Motorhome.
Sounds like it hasn't changed much. Their tourist

Industry is the one which will suffer.

Here's another couple of photos of Newport this morning , its a little brighter when the sun's out

Got talking to a couple of folk while walking around there. A very jolly woman from Boston who's been having a nightmare of a holiday , from losing her bag and all her cards , to crashing her hire car the second day she was here ...put my troubles in to perspective a little , and a very soft spoken old Irish fella that was telling me all about his granny being Scottish from one of the Isles to stories about the pirate in the statue above ...you should Google her its quite interesting

And then after failing to.find parking to walk up croagh Patrick this is the wee beach we are parked at for tonight.

It's a lovely spot and it has the bonus of having bins and a fresh water tap

I would cut it open 👍

Probably some over zealous council worker at least you have a good excuse for staying the night and a good location at the Quay
They're going mad recently with all the travellers racking up and parking for weeks, but they'll not bother you there especially when it's not even your fault your in there!
Surprised you couldn't get parked at Croagh Patrick there's usually coach parking all over the show near the big white statue, if your climbing it leave early as its bigger than it looks 😉

I've got out now . I'm now at old head beach louisburgh.

If they hadn't opened it I'd have cut the lock of early morning . I've an angle grinder in my toolbox lol.

But he let me out anyway
