Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Aye and an added bonus , if I open the flex plus account I can access the flex saver account which pays twice the interest my Halifax instant saver account gives. So the extra interest will more than cover the fees.
Also good exchange rates without charges worldwide.

I’ve been checking what’s covered, eu trip duration, which I didn’t find, but this may have a bearing on @Northernraider’s choice

That often applies in breakdown policies comes down to who turns up. But if you were getting the van repatriated to the UK you would be keeping the dogs with you.

That's looking like an option. I've just been reading the terms of cover for breakdown insurance etc. Seems its up to 7.5t on motorhomes. Can't see any age limits mentioned. Says it covers any vehicle I am in so would cover my car too and I'd get mobile phone and travel insurance too.
Make sure that there aren't any trip duration limits on the breakdown cover as some policies have them.

For travel insurance you'd need to pay extra to extend it, again check what the max is as it may not give you long enough even if you pay to extend.

Tam, stick with the insurance through Safeguard and get breakdown elsewhere either with the Nwide account or contact one of the numerous classic vehicle clubs and see if they have any suggestions. Adrian Flux used to be one broker for such things.

Tam you are relatively young and healthy so nationwide travel ins should work with a paid extension to cover the time you are away. Make sure you tell them everything and check your doctor's/NHS records just in case you have forgotten anything. I did and they refused to pay.
Also the phone ins needs original purchase contract proof to be valid.
Fortunately never needed to test the breakdown cover.

Yeah I don't have any health issues so should be fine.

I did notice the breakdown cover also covers Albania, montenegro and turkey which is unusual

Tam the repatriation cover from most insurance companies does not cover repatriation off pets, simply because they are not allowed to travel on aeroplanes, trains, and long distance coaches. I know this because the girls "Camper Vibe" on you tube, broke down in southern Spain, and had to arrange various hire cars, changing at borders, that allowed pets at an additional cleaning premium, plus dog friendly hotels to get back to the UK.
All in all, although they had seperately negotiated single journey breakdown cover with The AA, at a specified price for up to 90 days, it didnt cover their entire costs to get home. I think the overall bill ended up arround 7K,to get the van back home, plus hire cars, hotels etc, the AA paid about 5K of that and they were satisfied to pay the difference.
One thing I always ask MH owners to check for is repatriation of pets, as most do not realise they are not offered the usual option of flying home with their pets etc.
It can end up a real PIA, and they only had one dog!

Aye I'm aware it's never simple.

Having a bad day with this today. I keep finding more rotten bits of wood. Problem is the foam that's glued to the wall also seems to hold water. And it doesn't just come off. If I rip the foam off what do I replace it with. Feeling out of my depth with this as I'm no joiner. Really feeling stuck at the minute.

If you get some bits of foam come off when you have put all of the wood etc. back just use expand foam to fill in the missing areas not too much about 50% depth then it will fill the rest itself once cured use an old saw or bread knife to cut back to the surrounding area, the existing foam there wide open cell so will hold water but it will drain out when the leaks are sealed. Don’t despair

Couldn't you dry out the foam with a heat gun or mum's hairdryer?

Try LV , I think it was £89 I paid and it covers every vehicle you have.

It's getting access to put timber framing back in that's my biggest headache .. but there's been that much water coming in for so long I suspect even the joint at the floor is rotten.

Slide in section(s) of marine ply covered in resin

The problem is it’s been leaking for so long it’s done terrible damage, even the best constructed vans if you leave them leaking for years they will do really bad damage.

I saw a Clou Liner once it had leaked for so long through the seams in the sidewall the floor was totally rotten it had mushrooms growing. The owner was well out of his depth, didn’t know what to do, he finished up taking to Niesmann in Polch, all the inside removed, complete new floor, cost over 20k he said.

It just goes to show you that even the best constructed vans can suffer terrible, expensive damage.

Could you find indoor barn/workshop etc out if the weather do it can really dry out and you can work on it properly.

A bit of a nightmare but you will get there I take you have seen the other couple of threads on repairing really damp vans one on a Swift the other on an Autotrail.

You can replace the foam with a closed cell foam like Kingspan or Cellotex, when I did a caravan I used the West System to glue the wallboard back on, it's a two pack resin that doesn't attack the foam.

Could you cut square sections out with a knife then replace with celotex etc a section at a time?
