Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Only cover up to 3500kg & 2.3m wide.
Yeah I see that now, mine is 15 and just got it in last year but don't know where to go this year.
So many different hoops you have to jump through, age, weight , length, width, just UK, European, which countries it doesn't cover, it's a minefield.

Nationwide Flex Plus Account, Breakdown cover does not have any age limit, costs £13/month so £156/year.
It's not paying any interest at the moment but with rates rising it may start paying interest again which will reduce the cost a bit.

My son just had the Eriba (1991) recovered by the AA - was UK and 3t though

That's looking like an option. I've just been reading the terms of cover for breakdown insurance etc. Seems its up to 7.5t on motorhomes. Can't see any age limits mentioned. Says it covers any vehicle I am in so would cover my car too and I'd get mobile phone and travel insurance too.

Haven't looked to see how much I'd have to pay in to the account monthly though

Nothing to pay
Seems a win win to us
My only beef is that they changed the breakdown people from Brittania to AA this year
Britannia served us well twice
AA was appalling - though that was through ADaC years ago!
Some comments on here that although there’s no limits with Nationwide there are on usual AA policies and some staff have to be reminded it’s Nationwide..!

I don't have an option that involves nothing to pay. Whatever option I take I'm going to have to pay something I'm just trying to work out the best option..

I can leave my insurance with safeguard but would have no breakdown cover so I'd have to buy that elsewhere. ... not sure where I can get cover for 25 year old van 4200kg and Europe wide....

Or I cancel safeguard probably lose half the £600 premium I paid just 2 months ago and then pay £609 for new insurance from aib with breakdown included.
That option likely to cost me £300 or so

So just weighing up my options.

The bank account with breakdown, travel and phone insurance might be the best option. As it works out at £156 but covers any vehicle Europe wide plus my phone and travel insurance.

Travel insurance is for 30 days. It costs extra to extend it or if you have any pre existing conditions.

Aye but I've no pre exsisting conditions and haven't needed it so far so better than nowt. I never took out any last year as I forgot

It's mainly breakdown I need as it is an old van. And I've had to use that before a couple of times

Sorry to but in Tam, we have an 05 plate and are insured with caravan guard £409 with breakdown + EU cover.
Not sure what the rest of their requirements are, have you tried them?

Not really an issue. Use a direct debit to pay in whatever is required, then direct debit the same amount back out to the originating account.
Once set up, it just does it's thing.

I’m looking at a different motor insurance this year (now with comfort) and will probably use nationwide for travel and breakdown, but there’s not many covering Morocco now which I want to go over to this year… didn’t you get insurance at the border Tam ? How much was it..😎

Yeah the only one I heard covering morroco was saga and they wanted £800 for this van which is ridiculous.

I bought it at the border €149 for a worthless certificate

I wouldn’t worry about breakdown cover, all the Insurance companies that offer breakdown do is contact the nearest independent recovery garage and they take you to the nearest garage that can sort it.
You can do this yourself as long as you have a smart phone.
It’s not like the Aa/RAC/GG in UK they do not attempt to fix it.

But if it need recovering back home which Tam has had done a couple of times it will cost a fortune.

We changed to Nationwide a few years ago, & now we have made it our main bank account. Easy to manage, breakdown for any car me or my husband are in, travel insurance (reasonable to increase to 90 days & existing conditions), & mobile phone insurance. I’ve used the phone insurance twice, & received a new iPhone each time! I can’t fault it to be fair!

Yeah to be honest I run old bangers of cars too so it's probably handy. The breakdown with safeguard only ever covered the mh

To be honest the £13/month coverts you, car, mobile not bad value. We cancelled RAC …
Aye and an added bonus , if I open the flex plus account I can access the flex saver account which pays twice the interest my Halifax instant saver account gives. So the extra interest will more than cover the fees.
